When a hotel is branded as an Intercontinental there are certain expectations set, and unfortunately these weren't all met here.
As a Spire Ambassador I should always get - an upgraded room, free
water, fruit and a "gift". I got the room and the water, but the fruit and the gift didn't materialise.
The room was very nice - a 14th floor suite that runs from the front to the back of the hotel, giving views all round, and a balcony overlooking the bay. However the paintwork was showing signs of age, and there were no free sockets near the desk (the only free ones being in the middle of the lounge or out on the balcony) which meant unplugging the desk light to be able to plug in my laptop.
I didn't eat in the restaurant, but I did have lunch at the pool bar one day, and I have to say that the service here was truly awful. It would have been bad in a run down 2 star hotel, so has no place being offered up in an Intercontinental.
The reception staff were friendly and professional every time I had reason to talk to them. There was a problem with the computer system when I came to check out, but true to his word Jose emailed me a copy of my bill and credit card receipt just as soon as he got it back up and running again.
