first of all, I encourage the reading of my very detailed responses within the survey.
we had issues on the dates booked-they admitted to computer glitches but not 100% sure if it was user error
or their error. the 2 bedroom, NON SMOKING room we had requested was booked. we were forced to take 2 rooms (one of them was smoking-not good for my asthmatic son) thus increasing our cost. they split the cost of the 2nd room but we still paid over 100 more than expected which killed out budget for the trip. the staff was apologetic and did the best they could.
first of all, I think it is totally unacceptable to still have smoking rooms in hotels considering the proven health risks. what made the matter even worse is that they had smoking rooms on the SAME FLOOR as the non-smoking rooms. you could smell smoke in the hallways. the smoking room we were forced to take due to availability smelled horrible despite its look of cleanliness-it just felt dirty. the sheets stunk. the next day, even after showers, I could still smell smoke on the kids and their luggage smelled. we could have gone somewhere else but after a 5 hour trip we were beat and took what was available. again the staff was apologetic.
another issue, although a mild one, was both rooms needed blankets. it was late and in most of the hotels I have stayed, one of the staff members deliver but I had to change out of my pajamas and go downstairs and pick them up myself.
moving on to the breakfast...when traveling with teenagers, this is always one of the deciding factors as feeding 5 kiddos can get very expensive. I was disappointed in the breakfast area. although there were few people in the dining area, almost all of the tables were dirty and the trash was overflowing. the coffee maker was almost empty. I was only able to fill my cup to a bit more than 1/2 way and the creamer was almost gone as was the yogurt. there were plenty of bagels and bread. we opted not to make waffles and forego the hotel breakfast altogether. another unexpected expense.
the positives were it was close to the college, cleanliness of the rooms, and friendliness of the staff. one of my sons has decided to attend the University of Arkansas-I have yet to decide if my family will stay there again. I will probably look for a nonsmoking hotel first.
I hope this review was helpful. [Less]
