We found that the staff did not inform guests about local aminities such as the free shuttle into Blois town centre, we just happened on it by accident. We were told the time to walk into the centre was 10 minutes, this was actually 20 minutes normal walking, coming back was all uphill. This is a French issue as they are generally not over communicative about local transport time to reach places local to the hotel by foot or public transport. Furthermore, we had a key issue, every day we came back in the evening- 3 nights in succession, the key did not work. After hearing all the excuses about how the card is interferred with by coins etc & other credit cards, we said this does not happen in other hotels on this frequent a basis. In addition 1 of our 2 keys never left the room-it was in the safe & this did not work either!. As scientists we offered them an expaination which was possible due to an electronic quirk on our door related to after the maid had used her key, that our key no longer functioned & in some way was re-set. We suggested they checked the electronics on our door & did the experiment we suggested with the maids key.
We got some complementary water& biscuits from the manager, but this did not compensate for the inconvienience of the key not working 3x in succession.

This is one of the best hotels we have experienced while travelling in France.

Full disclosure on the reviews I post for most of my Holiday Inn stays; for vacation travel, I use my IHG Priority Points, so in effect I am staying for “free”. On the one hand, I may be less critical because I am not paying cash out of my pocket, but on the other hand, it gives me a perspective into the quality of the staff as I am able to see if they treat me as they would a guest who was paying full price.
The Holiday Inn Blois gets high praise for their hospitality. Since we would be arriving in Paris after an all night flight and driving to Blois, the option of an early check-in was important to us. I e-mailed them and asked if that could be possible and Emmanuelle responded that they would do their best to make it happen; and they did.
Blois is an excellent base to explore the Loire Valley and the free parking was much appreciated.
The hotel is just a short walk from the historic district, for my wife and I it was not problem. We did encounter an older couple and the woman suffered from a bad knee, so for them, it was a bit too far of a walk. Be aware that there is a free shuttle bus. Ask about it at the front desk.
When people complain about the noise at a hotel, that can be a function of thin walls, or noisy neighbors. I do not know if the walls are especially thick here, or the other guests were exceptionally quite, but we enjoyed four nights of sound sleep, uninterrupted by any sound. Our room (017?) was on the ground floor, well away from any street sounds, not that it seemed to be an especially busy street.
They have a restaurant on site, and other restaurants, cafes, and bakeries can be found a short walk away.
