Very close to A12 but suffers from the road noise as a result. Main line railway also very close to the property.
We asked for a quiet room and were told it was in the 'quiet wing' but we could still hear the road and trains. We asked to move to the opposite side of the corridor but were told it would make no difference. That advice was wrong as that side was further from the road/rail.
Mattress too soft and uncomfortable. Woke with back ache each day.
Breakfast was dreadful. The hot buffet food was dry, tired and inedible. It must have been cooked ages before and, as the hotel was quiet, not turned over fast enough. We asked for fresh cooked poached eggs but chef hard boiled them and they were covered in scum from the pan. Not nice! Cost refunded when we complained.
Internet access wasn't working as planned. Had to request Guest codes every 24 hours.
Changing rooms for pool weren't very clean, no spin dryer for trunks and no plastic bags to take the wet clothing away.
Overall ok but could have been so much better.

Enjoyable pleasant stay in quiet surroundings and with first rate staff and service.

I have been spending over 100 nights in this hotel over the last 10 years - I have to say that the lack of stability of the staff too much turn over is causing big variation of the service quality level
1) No curtain in the bathroom --- have stayed 2 nights despite the bathroom was full of water after the morning shower , no change the second night !
2) Kitchen service : The chef is never around in the morning for the breakfast and sounds to have something to do more important thaan serving the customers --- spend 15 mns waiting time to get a basic 2 eggs boiled
3) Morning breakfast : very cold welcome , no feeling of customer attention at all
Only still good service is the front desk !!
I am sorry to see that as i have been there including with my family and we have always felt welcome and important as a customer -- for the first time i am really thinking of changing my location next time and ask my company to re- discuss the opportunity to do so for all of the employees visiting our large plant in Colchester
