Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Business Bed I arrived late at the hotel and was away straight after breakfast, however I had a lovely clean and comfortable room and although I did have some problems accessing wifi that didn't affect my stay. Breakfast the next morning was as expected from a Holiday Inn, being plentiful and quick. My stay was paid for by my company but I would consider it value for money and would certainly book again when in Newcastle. May 22, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Hotel and Courteous Staff Had a decent stay. Room layout was not the best for mirror to get ready with. Pillows were uncomfortable. Room was clean and tidy. Internet access was good. The one bar meal I had was fine...it had a vegetarian option. Breakfast was fine but a cooked alternative for vegetarians would be nice and probably needed to be a little bit more on the ball with topping up the food trays. May 17, 2016

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not what I expected The hotel itself is situated on a busy main road which forms the main route from the centre of Newcastle to the east, therefore the road is very congested at certain times of the day. Because of this, it is only possible to access the hotel by car from one side of the road. I am unsure of the number of rooms the hotel has but the car park does not accommodate the same number of cars. The car park has two floors, each floor accommodates around 25 cars. I could find no other parking in the area as it is all Residential and it seems you need a permit. On my entrance to the hotel, my first impression was that of cigarette smoke. The reception is located on the left and there is a small bar to the right. At check in I was approached by a young male who spoke in a very, very fast accent. I found it extremely difficult to understand what he was saying. In some respects it reminded me of a Steve Coogan sketch. The only information I managed to comprehend was my room number and the fact I had to sign for my room. My room was on the first floor and located at the front of the hotel. While walking to my room it was evident that the hotel was well utilised, as the carpet was worn and dirty. As I opened the door to my room it was evident that the noise from the traffic was going to be a problem. Even though the hotel offers double glazing it not enough. The room itself was not the best. It was meant to have been a King Executive. The bedside lamps were wonky, the TV did not work and there was a smell in the room. I thought the smell was from the shower room but it later turned out to be from the bed itself. As I turned the mattress it was obvious what was causing the smell. There was a huge stain on the mattress. I complained to reception who were very good and changed my room. My new room, again a King Executive, was on the next floor, but I could still hear the traffic from the road. The was no bath in the room ( there was in the last one ) but there was no smell. There is a complimentary card near the fridge in the room which advises that guests are free to take the complimentary water, orange and kitkat, although what was confusing is that the card was situated next to a small bottle of wine, peanuts and crisp. I didn’t take any in case I was later charged for it. There is a mini-bar, not well stocked, iron and ironing board. The TVs are not the greatest. They stream TV reception in over a network and if it lags the TV picture stops and restarts. It is very intermittent. The carpet in the rooms are not clean, they just look it. I noticed this by accident as I was taping something up and the tape touched the floor. The amount of hairs that it picked up were unbelievable. The more I tried the more hairs there were. The bed itself was quite hard, which I like, but it was made up of two singles, so if you sleep in the middle you can feel the joint. The breakfast in the morning was typical of this type of hotel. Full English and Continental were available. All food was at an appropriate temperature and tasty. The staff in the morning were very friendly and helpful. Free wifi is available, but it is limited. If you require hi-speed internet then you have to pay. On my second night I accidently walked past the 2nd bar, which also does food. I presume I was told about this at check-in but as the conversation was too fast I ate out at other establishments during my stay. I love Holiday Inn hotels and have stayed in many in the UK and throughout the rest of Europe. I wouldn’t say that this is one of the best, in fact it disappointed me. There is so much more to offer. I would have thought that reception staff would have asked if I was eating in the restaurant when I checked-in, but they offered nothing (not that I could understand). Feel very let down. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great stay in lovely hotel Stayed here for one night 7th May and had a lovely time. Checked in as soon as we arrived as there was a room available which was good. Receptionist was very helpful and pleasant. Room was very clean and had everything we needed. Had a very nice meal in Fratellos restaurant then a few drinks in the lovely bar. Would definitely come back May 11, 2016
