Holiday Inn Porto is located a little out of the centre but easily accessible by Car and just 500m from the main Tram/metro Line. Its a huge imposing hotel with stunning views from the upper floors of both the city and the Atlantic Ocean Coastal area.
The lobby is totally 5 star.. beautifully designed and very very impressive in its contemporary bar, restaurant and lift access area. There is also a smoking lobby outside the entrance complete with leather settees! Staff were polished, groomed, friendly, professional and efficient. My status as Plat Amb was recognised and I was upgraded to a beautiful 4 roomed suite with city views. I also had a number of follow up calls from guest relations during my 3 night stay to check that all was to my liking.
The suite rooms were large, clean and well designed and laid out. Perfect for business and leisure. The bathrooms was marble floor to ceiling and again spotless. The lounge on the top floor was relaxing with a welcoming coffee dock and snacks available each evening. Again the views are great. The gym is small but has everything you need for a workout, though walking the many hills of Porto is the perfect aerobic and lower body workout!
For some the location may be a little out of town but the hotel is removed from the hustle and bustle of the centre and much quieter than the InterContinental downtown.
Just 4 metro stops from the Bodegas on the riverbank and 5 from the centre and 500meters from El Corte Ingles for premier shopping, this Hotel is highly recommended.
I have now persuaded my Partner to visit Porto and we will definitely stay at Holiday Inn when we do.

We enjoyed the location of the hotel in Gaia...a short train ride (5-8 minutes) from Porto. It's a beautiful ride over the bridge/river. The Gaia side of the river had all the port makers just a short walk away, and we actually thought the Gaia side was charming and more local than the Porto side. The hotel upgraded us to a suite with a nice view of Porto. It was a fantastic stay, though I never received the welcome bonus points despite selecting them in writing (500 each for 2 separate stays). That glitch was a bit odd, but no matter. It's a nice facility with great views of Porto. And a hot (and helpful) front desk lady or two....:-)

Improve the airco. When the winter is mild of themperature the room can be warm. It was not possible to blow cold air. We had to open the window to get it cold at night and day.
