Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Maybe the third times a charm So I gave this hotel a second chance after a wonderful visit my first stay. Let's say my second stay was less than stellar. I was put in a room that was decent and clean but not what I had booked. After settling in the first night, the batteries in the smoke detector started to get low. This caused a constant beep all night. I called the desk and by the time someone came they had no clue how to fix it. Needless to say, this continued to beep the entire 4 day stay. Upon returning to the room the second day, close to 5pm, my room had still not been cleaned. I know things can get chaotic but all I needed was clean towels. And to top the entire stay off I was never given a wifi password at check in. I know it's small things but when traveling it can make a difference. 10 November 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good value for the price It's a good value for the price in Old Town Alexandria, especially the cost of hotel parking in this area 10 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice break from a long travel day I had never been to this hotel before and I was quite pleased. It had been a long day of travel and nothing seemed to be going right until I arrived. The Hotel was very nice, the staff were incredibly friendly, my room was huge and very clean. The restaurant was closed due to the late hour but the bar food was fine, the service was quick and the company was good at the bar. Overall, this was an unexpected and very nice experience at the end of a long day. Thank you...I needed that. 08 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by weekend get away Had a great time in Alexandria and enjoyed the many activities in Old Town 07 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by November stay Easy walking distance to several quality restaurants. A 3/4 mile walk (shuttle available) to King Street and its attractions. Clean and spacious. We enjoyed our stay. Shuttle service to/from Reagan was very useful too. 05 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel but the breakfast could improve When in the Alexandria area, I try my best to stay at this hotel. The rooms are spacious and the service is great. The breakfast could be better though. 02 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My Stay I have always found that holiday in gives you a nice place to stay at a fair price. This property was amazing, from the time we checked in till we left 5 days later. The girls at the front desk in the morning shift are the sweetest and so very accommodating. Why would anyone stay at expensive properties when they can stay at a Holiday in. There is a grocery store directly across the street from the property that stays open till midnight. I bet we walked across the street to this store a half a dozen times. It was just so convenient. Another secret two blocks from hotel there is a restaurant called J. D. Stone. Wow what food you will not regret eating there. 01 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean Hotel I did not have any problems with the stay at this hotel. 31 October 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A bit run down/needs work, but great location 2nd year staying here. Usually I can tell when a hotel attempts to keep up the property. Not so much in this case. It is in great need of a renovation. 30 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location to visit Old Town Alexandria Wonderful setting and location. The hotel is located in a beautiful area north of King Street in Old Town. We had a room with King size bed and french doors to Juliet Balcony overlooking the courtyard and Old Town. 8 block walk South down St. Asaph and you are at King Street, where shops and restaurants are in abundance. Wonderful restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance of hotel in a one to two block area. 4 blocks East and you are at the Potomoc and the jogging/walking paths. Hotel shuttle takes you to Reagan Airport and the airport Metro stop, if you don't want to rent a car. We loved the hotel and location and will be staying there when on business again. 29 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding facility. A home away from home. This is our second stay at this location. All aspects of the stay were outstanding. In addition there is a grocery store across the street. We were minutes away from the central business district and the hotel provides a shuttle. This facility is also pet friendly. 29 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed and great service. The bed was incredibly comfortable. Much better than my "Sleep Number" bed at home. Pillows were great too. Hotel is convenient to grocery store across the street. Free parking on the street on weekend. 29 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyable weekend We stayed in Alexandria to attend a family reunion. First time at this hotel. Great location to highways and near King Street (where all the dining and shopping are located). 29 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My Great Visit to Washington From the day we arrived the girl at the front desk was go great to us. She told us how to get to everything as we had never been there. She told us about riding the sources in town and the best way to get to where we wanted to go. The beds were very comfortable an I they helped my back. All in all the stay there was fabulous. I would tell everybody how helpful your staff were to my daughter and I the whole week. 26 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Very Enjoyable Stay Being a platinum member wherever I travel I always prefer to use a IHG brand hotel/ My second visit to USA, my partners first. On our arrival from UK (after a delayed connecting flight) we appreciated our warm welcome and upgrade to a suite for our 4-day stay. Our suite was clean and extremely comfortable, the fridge and microwave being welcome bonus UK IHG hotels should consider. The breakfast buffet was delicious with so many choices and set us up for our days exploring the lovely Alexandria and our trip to Washington, the girls on restaurant duty were always courteous and friendly. The shuttle bus to the metro was excellent and made the need for car hire unnecessary. We would certainly recommend this Hotel to anyone wanting to visit the fantastic Washington sites and museums. Alexandria is a lovely place and well worth a look, we especially loved the Torpedo museum. 24 October 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Overpriced The room was decently cleaned. The bathroom wasn't very clean. The shower didn't work properly. The tub didn't work for my daughter to take a bath. The shower head continuously sprayed water even when the water was only supposed to come out of the tub. The button to turn the shower to bath was broken and sprayed water out of the button. I called down to the service desk and told them but no one came and fixed it and it wasn't fixed while we were out on any day we were there. The breakfast was horrible and way overpriced. There wasn't anyone to greet us when we seated ourselves for breakfast to explain how it worked. We got the buffet and realized the it was $20 per person and the food was horrible and cold. The pool was very nice. It was kind of small, but my daughter and husband enjoyed our time in it and the lifequard was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very nice inside but the price of the room and the price of overnight parking was completely too expensive. 23 October 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by bed was good, service was terrible Positives: Bed was comfortable, the cooling system worked, and they gave us free toothpaste Negatives: We had numerous problems, which the staff didn't seem to really want to help us with: we were given the wrong rate, the wrong type of room (which smelled like a wet dog), and the billing was wrong. All these eventually got resolved, but it was not an easy process. The parking structure was fairly ridiculous. Every time we wanted to get in, the card didn't work. Most of the time, the button to call for help didn't work either. So, we had to go back around to the front of the hotel and either get a new card, or have a hotel employee come to the parking structure with us to let us in. Overall, I would not stay again. I've never been to Alexandria/DC before, but I have to believe there are better hotels out there. 23 October 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Should have been better Having stayed at this location numerous times, this time having started on the wrong foot, I was disappointed in some of the services and staff. Added to this, it probably was based around the room provided - on the ground floor, it was not a pleasant stay. Hopefully things get better. 22 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay My stay at the Holiday Inn in Alexandria-Historic District was excellent! The bed was comfortable, the room was clean 21 October 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable accomodations , but poor customer service While the accommodations were clean and comfortable, there were several issues that made our stay less enjoyable than it should have been. We reserved a three night stay to attend an out of town wedding. At the time of reservation, we were not given the block rate, having been told that the room block was full, when it was not. Two phone calls later, that issue was resolved for me, and the block rate was charged as it should have been. The parking garage was an issue every day of our stay. The parking card did not work at least 80% of the time we attempted to enter or leave the garage. We were told on check in that , in the event we had trouble , to press the "assistance" button and the staff would raise the arm from the front desk. We were given a total of three different parking cards during our stay, due to card failure. During the last two days of our stay, neither the parking cards nor the "assistance" button worked at all, and twice required that we drive to the hotel entrance to inform the front desk staff to open the gate so we could park. Finally, at check out, our parking was incorrectly charged. We were told by the desk staff that she could remove the charge from the statement , but that she could not remove charges, which would need to be done by the operations manager. The desk staff was always polite and attentive, but no one seemed to know how to explain the confusion about the room block and room rate , parking problem, or incorrect charges. The room was clean and comfortable and the building is maintained and attractive. Unfortunately, the other issues we encountered were irksome and interfered with the ability to fully enjoy the stay as much as we could have. Its really too bad, because while I expect to visit Alexandria in the future, I won't choose this hotel. 20 October 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by We Love Holiday Inn's Overall our room was very spacious and clean. We were on the 1'st floor due to having our family dog with us. We were very impressed with the room however it smelled very badly of a mildew type smell. We wondered if possibly the room had been flooded at one time or if there was potentially a water leak some where within the walls or under the flooring. We were in Room 105. When we checked in we were not told about how to utilize the parking ticket to gain entry in and out of the parking garage. No directions were offered to our room etc. The front desk basically did what they had to do. Not a very friendly welcome. We were really impressed however with a lady that was just getting off of work when we arrived. It was late evening and she was walking through the lobby and offered to show us the location of our room. She was overly friendly and kind. She was awesome but we did not see this type of treatment from anyone else during our stay. We love Holiday Inn's and would still recommend this hotel. We do feel this room needs to be checked for a water problem and perhaps the front desk needs to be a little more accommodating. Kudo's to the housekeeper (?) that made us feel welcome. Too bad we didn't get her name! 20 October 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by a value for money good hotel stayed with family for two nights on a holiday to Washington DC. Our experiance was excellant. The staff attitude was extremely positive and ever willing to help, even at odd hours. 20 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Short but comfortable stay Late in the evening, I had to find a room near the airport due to cancellation of my flight. I made my reservation on the phone very easily and used the shuttle to get to the hotel. The personnel at the reception was very friendly and efficient. The room was very spacious, functional and in excellent condition. I enjoyed my short but comfortable stay. keep up the good work. 19 October 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by H.I. Suites Alexandria Very enjoyable ... Great Staff, clean , convenient. Absolutely would consider staying here again. 18 October 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Mildew and other odor in the room but excellent maintenance service My first room had a strong odor that was most likely mildew but smelled very much like wet dog. The maintenance man quickly arranged a new room, which was significantly better and was extremely pleasant - the only reason I did not go to a different hotel. The second room was significantly better but looked a little more dated and felt slightly damp. The room did not live up to what I have come to expect and have experience with the 'new' Holiday Inn Express. 16 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Hotel Hotel and the area were both excellent. Attentive staff, quality rooms and services. 15 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Personable staff Front desk staff was prepared for my arrival, knew my name, knew my reward club status and offered the amenities without me having to ask. 13 October 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Large, spacious King Room My stay was very comfortable and uneventful- just like you would want it to be when traveling. My King room was really clean and very large and spacious with a fridge and a couch/sleeper sofa. 13 October 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet comfortable room Positives: The hotel is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the old town shopping district, in a mostly residential area. The hotel does provide an hourly shuttle service to this area from early afternoon to late evening, as well as to Reagan Airport (twice per hour). One day when we were out of the room for most of the day, we returned to find that the beds had not been made up. Our request for fresh towels was promptly met. Negatives: 1. The do not disturb sign would not stay on the door handle, and there was no sign to let the maid know we were out so the room could be cleaned. 2. In order to fully open the door to the bathroom, you need to lift the seat of the commode. 3. The parking spaces in the garage were very narrow and made to feel even narrower because of the support columns. 11 October 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One of the best. This was our second stay at this hotel. It is one of the best, moderately priced hotels we have stayed at. Our reception was warm and friendly. The room was comfortable and spacious. Everything was very clean. The food and service were outstanding. We decided to take a taxi downtown for dinner. The front desk people were happy to arrange a cab for us, and the driver was very friendly and helpful. The parking garage is very convenient, and having a grocery store right across the street is helpful. All things considered, it is a wonderful hotel, and we would recommend it for travelers. 09 October 2014
