Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient for Birmingham Airport Well-placed for BHX, the refurbished Birmingham HI offers all the usual amenities. It's ideal for an overnight stay before an early flight, although some may find the 07.30 start for breakfast service rather late for an airport location. The shuttle service bus, efficiently driven, the driver helpful & obliging, goes to Birmingham International Railway Station (also NEC access\) from where there is a monorail link to the airport every 2 minutes. The disappointment was dinner. The menu was somewhat restricted - in contrast to previous stays at the same hotel. In the past we judged the range of food on offer rivaled the alternative Crowne Plaza. with a specific vegetarian menu. On this occasion, we found only two options available, pizza or pene. However, the high point was the waiting staff, very friendly & helpful & the special alternative, vegetable curry was excellent. 13 August 2013

The receptionist booked me in for the night at a great rate AND upgraded me, my parking was free the next morning. Thats what Loyalty is about. I WAS a Platinum Elite, but slipped to Gold Elite so I am making every effort to get back, this sort of treatment is the reason why. 05 August 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent service from all the staff I stayed here mid July after a cancelled and subsequent redirected flight, I arrived at the hotel at 11.30 at night. I walked in with no booking and the staff were excellent from the outset, my priority status was immediately recognised and I was offered a room upgrade, the bar remained open till 1am so I could have a drink and I was offered to have the room service menu in the bar. The general attitude of the staff to everything I asked for was extremely friendly, I'm impressed. 05 August 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Standards have dropped below acceptable levels. I have used this hotel a number of times in the past and fool that I am I keep hoping things will improve. There was no a/c in my room and having driven through the night I was desperate for rest, my south facing room was like a greenhouse. At first I was offered a rather noisy fan, that just made matters worse. A room change involved a stroll around the corridors, no assistance with luggage, only to find the room (box) with the a/c. At this point I gave up and slept. I have seen the food on previous visits and nothing on the plates gave me any reason to think that there had been any improvement. A beer at the bar made London prices seem cheap, the pipes need cleaning to boot. We took our meal and drinks at a restaurant in Solihull. I made my comments known to the member of staff at the desk and completed the customer survey which no doubt found it's way into the bin. The cost of the refurbishment is wasted without a complete shake up, I suspect from the top down. Tell the truth about your rates and include the extras, the car parking charge and the shrug of shoulders was the final straw, never again.. 27 July 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Service Standards Reduced I was sad to see that there has been a reduction in services at this hotel from our previous stays, to the point that we may now chose another hotel in the area. this hotel needs to raise it's standards not reduce them i.e. facilities staff and menu's. I have stayed in many IHG hotels around the world even in pooere countries there standards are higher. 26 July 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Indifference and lack of customer service from front desk staff We chose this particular Holiday Inn for the last two nights of a two-week stay in the UK because of its proximity to Birmingham Airport and for its advertised amenities (free shuttle service, AC, Internet access, parking). Well, the AC appeared limited to the rooms, something which made the corridors and front lobby uncomfortably warm during the particularly hot days we were there. The wireless Internet was limited to the lobby, which itself was not a significant issue and was indeed advertised as such. But the parking was very limited, with many guests parking their cars anywhere they could find a spot, often blocking other cars in as a consequence. But our biggest issue was with the shuttle service, or lack thereof. Apparently, the much-advertised free shuttle service to and from Birmingham International Rail Station (which is linked to the airport) turned out not to be reliable after all. We had to return a rental car at the airport and were going to rely on the shuttle to get back to the hotel the day before our departure from the UK. We asked the front desk a couple of times where we would find the shuttle waiting but were given only the most vague explanations, something that seemed in character with a front desk team that seemed bored and indifferent to customers. Well, when we went to look for the shuttle and found none at the rail station, we called the hotel and were told point blank that the shuttle wasn't running and wouldn't until that evening. No explanation why. We took a taxi back and I asked the front desk staffer for a reason why it wasn't running. He wouldn't tell me. When I told him we had booked the hotel precisely because of that service that made it possible for travelers to get to the airport, he simply smiled sarcastically as if to say "too bad for you." Luckily, there was a shuttle the following day but only because I specifically requested it. We were the only two passengers aboard. Apparently all the other guests knew something we didn't: that this free shuttle service is simply not be relied upon, which would explain the parking lot filled beyond capacity with cars and the lack of people actually using the shuttle. We can't in good conscience recommend this hotel for travelers looking for an overnight stay near Birmingham Airport. 24 July 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good hotel - poor option for breakfast The location suits me well and I like the hotel a lot but it's the IHG breakfast policy that's starting to annoy me (probably outside of the hotels choices). There seems to be an increasing occurrence of being offered a full breakfast at well over £10 whereas all I require is a bowl of porridge. The ability to be selective and pay for a specific item in isolation seems like its disappearing. IHG are endeavouring to force people into a standard selection at a fixed price and that doesn't 'fit' with the usual fairness and flexibility of the IHG group. I emailed IHG Customer Services about this on June 20th but have not yet had a reply 2 weeks later! maybe the hotel can apply some pressure? 05 July 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Brilliant Stayed at the Birmingham Airport Holiday Inn with my family as a stop over for our main Holiday and it was brilliant 5 minutes on the Holiday Inn shuttle from the international train station, which you must go, to so that you can catch the shuttle, the train station is only 2 minutes from the Airport via mono rail. We got the shuttle to drop us off at the International Train Station so that we could go to the Cadbury Museum, which took about 45 minutes, but that was only because we had to change trains. All in all a great place to stay for a stop over or a Base to visit Birmingham from. 04 July 2013

Staff was very friendly, helpful specially the Asian guy, helped me with my heavy suitcases, dinner reservation in the restaurant. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great place to stay! On arrival greeted very pleasantly and efficiently by the front of house staff. Rather surprised that I was given a free upgrade to business class room which included access to the business lounge including free internet access, complementary drinks and snacks. Very surprised and unexpected!!! The bedroom was superb, certainly the best room with regards comfort and ease of work which I have stayed at any Holiday Inn brand. I was also very surprised that the noise levels were very quiet considering I could see the runway at Birmingham airport just a couple of hundred metres away and I didn't hear any noise from the planes. All in all, thoroughly recommended. Only downside with this brand is the cost of breakfast. I suppose if you have a full breakfast it is good value for money. Myself, I only have a continental and 11 GBP is excessive for a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast - no fault of the hotel only the brand! 26 June 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Bed was comfortable, food was tasteless, cold. I order 2 fish & chips and fish taste like rubber. I did complain but reply was this is normal. Hotel did not offer any solution when I made the complain. I would like to be compensated according to your rules and regulations. Hope to hear from you soon. Noreen Shah 24 June 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by If that's one of the better rooms....And don't rely on the promised airport shuttle either I had booked this on Priority Club- Platinum, as flying the next morning from Birmingham airport. I wondered why the curtains of my room were already drawn closed when i went into my room- it was so i did not see the view of a concrete wall! Yes, the room was below ground level. I complained to reception as I thought being a Platinum member my room may have been upgraded. Turns out this IS one of their upgrade rooms. Receptionist was polite but a "shrug shoulders" attitude was not helpful. I mentioned that my welcome letter says there was complinentary bottled water- there wasn't . response was "oh, housekeeping must have forgotten it, I can get you some if you want". Was too tired to pursue this. So, headed to my "bunker". Few minutes later another member of staff came, full of apologies. I showed him the "view"- he was not impressed!! He arranged a prompt change of room for me. Not much better view, but nicer room. Slept fine, went on my trip- thanks to the included courtesy mini-bus to Birmingham International station. Driver gave me number so I could let hotel know I'd arrived back. Called it on the Sunday, only to be told "Oh, the minibus is not running today; you'll have to pay for a taxi yourself". I asked if the hotel would be refunding me the taxi fare, and was given a decisive "no". So much for "complimentatry hotel shuttle" Overall, I'd not stay here again. Priority club platinum membership has little bearing on how you are treated as a guest, and to simply abandon me on my return to get my own taxi was terrible customer service. 24 June 2013

My first night was horrible!! - The room was in some basement type area! - Head almost hit the ceiling which was horrible, poorly painted and dirty! - Heating didn't work so was freezing! - Planes making lots of noise right outside my window! - Door looked like it had been kicked in a few times as frame was falling apart! - No deadlock only a flimsy chain so didn't feel secure! - Bathroom looked dirty and not well kept! To be fair though once i complained to reception they did move me once they had another room, which was much better and of a higher standard! 20 June 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor rooms (and good ones) The room that I was given when I checked in was very bad. Worn out chair, broken furniture, small bathroom; a Holiday Inn unworthy. I needed to complain twice before getting another (very good) room. It seems that there is an old and a new part of the hotel. My advice would be to avoid this hotel. There are plenty of other Holiday Inn (Express) possibilities in the vicinity that are absolutely fine. 19 June 2013

Definitely coming back when flying out of Birmingham again. Food in the bar area was average, but service was very quick. I also noticed that employees would say hi with a smile, obviously the management of the hotel emphasizes customer service. 07 June 2013

I have to say this is one of the better Holiday inns for me... the room was brilliant - upgraded room as a platinum customer, staff were brilliant, food was delicious cant praise this hotel enough 23 May 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nats 18th Birthday Party I booked my daughters 18th Birthday Party in the Lancaster Suite and many of us stayed the night as well. I would like to thank the team, Lisa Cheryl, Ryan and the chefs for an excellent service. They could not do enough for us. They stayed with us til the very end of the party. Everyone who attended complemented us on the venue , food and the staff. The only issue was the cost of beverages £4.95 for a pint of lager is very expensive. The DJ was very good which was recommended by the Hotel. Well done to you all. Shirley 15 May 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great service Stayed with my daughter as we were exhibiting at the NEC for three days, so needed comfort after our tiring days! Got upgraded (without asking) as I'm a member of the Priority Club. Rooms were comfortable (luckily not too much outside noise in my room facing the busy A45). My daughter had slight issues with the bed sheet being smaller than the bed the first night, but on mentioning this at reception, the problem was quickly solved. Staff in both the dining room (for breakfast and dinner) and the bar were excellent, friendly but efficient. When my meal one night was left half eaten, this was noticed by both the barman and duty manager who asked if I would like an alternative. Definitely be back. 09 May 2013

Getting through the barrier was a pain due to malfunction. Stay was good, rooms excellent but staff were not the best compared to other HI hotels stayed at. Overall good stay. 30 April 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing start Arrived at the hotel at 1:45 and told by reception that I would have to wait until 2pm before I could check in my room... Whilst I understand there needs to be a policy, there was no effort to check the system to see if by chance my room was ready... I sat and waited and a few more people arrived and were told the same. By 2pm there was then a queue of people waiting to check in with all their luggage in hand rather than a nice and pleasant start to the stay..I appreaciate it is a minor issue, but It just felt like "jobs worth" following the rules rather than bothering to go the extra mile to make it a pleasant experience for guests by a simple check which has happened at other hotels, which unfortunately meant that everything else afterwards seemed tainted because it had put me in bad mood... 23 April 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Stay for Concert The Holiday Inn at Birming Airport was a lovely bright and modern hotel. We stayed in an executive room and the room was finished to a high standard. The hotel all round was lovely and especially the leisure facilities which we used. Th only downfall is the food and drink. The cost of the beverages made us have to eat and drink out away from the hotel. £5 for a lager and £15 for burger and chips, all you need is some very reasonable prices and you would get your customers spending more time relaxing in your lounge area and we saw nobody at all in the dining room. A very nice room, included free wired internet, a bar of chocolate , juice and 2 bottles of water. Also what i found to be included was free movies! although i did not use. Access to the business lounge was also included which i used the next morning for breakfast. For the rate i paid and what i received it was excellent value given the location. At the time of our stay, the hotel was very booked and the staff very busy, but they still gave 100% service, and helped with every request,( more than they had too!). I stayed with my son to go to the NEC, thanks to the staff and hotel it was so easy! Parking, the shuttle, and the hotel its self was so good. I recommend that you should up grade to include the breakfast......What a Breakfast! So well cooked, 100% quality, and so much to chose from..very very good. The room was very very good. And with all this, it has a swimming pool and steam room too! which made my sons day...Big Thanks, we will return. 13 April 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room, very disappointing service On arrival (Saturday 30 March 2013) I was allocated a ground floor room. I told the receptionist I had specifically requested a high floor on my booking, as I do not like people walking around above me. She said it was not on the booking. It was early afternoon, as she made no effort to reallocate me to another room. The request is definitely on my email copy of the booking. The room was comfortable. I had paid for internet access as part of my room rate. I was told that there was a cable in the room, to connect to my laptop. The internet socket on the wall was hanging out; I reported this to reception, who said they would get maintenance to attend. No one did. So I used the free wifi in the bar area. I did not get an apology though. I had my evening meal in the bar. Warm Coke poured into a glass from a bit plastic bottle ! Starter and main were fine; however naan bread to go as a side with the curry would have been nice. Food at the bar is expensive.. The staff see their job as taking your order at the bar, bringing food to you and then taking it away. if they are not doing that then they hang round the bar chatting. If you go other hotels the staff come and check if your food is ok, and will ask you if you want a dessert when they take your main away. At the Holiday Inn, they just clear your plate and say nothing. If they had bothered to talk to me, they could have sold me a dessert and coffee. Breakfast was a disaster. I was told there were no tables and I would have to wait in the reception area until called. There WERE tables free. Lots of them,in the nicest area of the restaurant. However, they had been reserved for a Carvery lunch later in the day. If the staff had been customer focussed, they would have set the lunch tables up after breakfast, instead of making people wait for a seat. I did relay my comments to the duty manager. Part of the problem is that he had to be on the reception desk all morning, so there wasn’t actually a manager able to walk round the hotel and make sure everything was ok. The best he could offer to do was to bring my feedback up during his handover meeting on Tuesday. 03 April 2013
