Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor impression and lack of personal touch Having booked this hotel after an excellent stay at Holiday Inn Swindon the week before, I was bitterly disappointed with the level of service at Bolton. There was a wedding party booked in for the night and a Valentines night event which I would have taken advantage of had my wife not been performing in a band at a local venue. I asked for a room upgrade as part of the IHG rewards which was not available "the hotel was fully booked". Although disappointed I accepted that this was the case as I have been lucky on most occasions previously. We had a salad in the bar and the waitress/bar staff were a very unhappy bunch. One had in fact been crying. The salad was poor value and served in a dish balanced on a slate. Although entertaining for all the guests the staff must have a nightmare with these every time a meal comes out! If I had ordered a hot meal I would have fetched it myself. The room we had was tired and poorly equipped (no shower gel) and the breakfast was the only highlight of our stay. I will not stay there again unless there is a major change in the ambiance and general customer care. A few smiles would not go amiss!!! 19 February 2015

The staff were very friendly and willing to help when ever possible. The rooms were very comfortable . The staff really make this hotel a good place to stay and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. 17 February 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very noisy hotel We requested a quiet room on booking and again on check in. We were advised that there was no function that night. Unfortunately that night there was a very loud event on. Staff advised there were no king beds away from the event, only double beds (which we previously ruled out as they are very uncomfortable and roll around the floor if you move in bed or try to sit up to read). Staff refused to cover alternative accommodation and twice got the finish time of the event wrong. The beds are very old and fairly uncomfortable and the room had badly stained and torn soft furnishings and wallpaper. The gym equipment was 80s or 90s vintage and mostly faulty. Needless to say we did not get any sleep until the early hours of the morning when the function finally ended and have no intention of going back unless things improve dramatically. 17 February 2015
