It is always a pleasure to come back to the Calais Holiday Inn. The location is excellent - near the harbour. And staff is always friendly.

We have stayed at this hotel a lot and have always felt very welcome. We usually get the same room - smoking and disabled with a huge wet room which is perfect for my disabled husband. The hotel is very convenient for the port if you come by ferry from Dover (about 5 minutes by car) but only about 15 - 20 minutes from the Channel Tunnel which we tend to do if we come in the winter. The staff are lovely - very polite and welcoming. You can use the hotel car park or there is free parking outside and opposite the hotel. There are lots of restaurants to choose from nearby and the hotel is very close to the beach. It has been very quiet every time we have stayed. You can get BBC1 and BBC2 on the tv but we tend to watch the French channels. Internet is good too. We don;t always eat in the hotel but have had breakfast, dinner in the restaurant and bar food and all have been very acceptable. They have a happy hour every night too where if you buy one drink, from memory, beer, house wine or soft drink, you get another free.

A quick flit to France during a very cold snap ... and I found the hotel warm and comfortable in every sense. My room (401) was big, clean and comfortable - and with views of the port.
I wouldn't come here for the food, it's true, but breakfast was fine and there are two excellent restaurants (Sole Meunière and Le Channel# just across the road. I also enjoyed Histoire Ancienne a five minute walk down the Rue Royale - excellent value and inventive menu.
If you want to shop, take the frequent FREE #isn't that amazing?# shuttle to the theatre ... then the number 1 bus #1 euro each way) to Cité Europe.
Back at the hotel, as other guests have mentioned, the staff really are so helpful, so friendly: full marks.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Finewinelover Good hotel -- probably the best in Calais town
Great location for restaurants, sea front and ferries. Plenty of parking nearby. Good welcome, friendly helpful staff, adequate clean accommodation -- was a bit cold in the room and breakfast poor, suggest the coffee shop option.
Overall a good experience here and consistently good over the years.

We arrived at this hotel at 11.00pm, we had been driving for 3 hours and just wanted to get to bed. We got in to our non smoking room and could smell smoke. I rang down to reception and all they could do was change our room but by that time the children were ready for bed. We stayed in the room that smelt of smoke all night and in the morning complained again about it only to discover that the people in the next room had been smoking all night! All we received was one free breakfast as compensation! Not happy and would never stay again
