Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent stay at this hotel I was at this hotel for a couple of days and have nothing to say but all positive!!! Arriving check-in was smooth and the staff at the front desk was excellent. The room was very clean and comfortable and if I need anything the employees were more than helpful. The restaurant was very good and they brought our food to our room. Check out went smoothly, I would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay here again when returning to the area. 17 August 2013

Breakfast was inordinately slow - slow to order, slower still to receive food and yet slower again to get the bill. Had to head into the kitchen for the bill and found our server chatting with the cook! Maybe a nice conversation but lousy service!! 16 August 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great New Find We visited this hotel to see friends and do some of the Carbondale area wineries. This property seemed brand new. Because we are members of IHG rewards we received a free room upgrade which was great. It had a large king bed and plenty of square footage. The workout room was small but all the equipment looked new and there was a great flat screen to help get me through my daily workout. The workout room also contained a fridge with bottled water, a water cooler, and fresh fruit which I took advantage of. Pool area looked great, but we did not have enough time to enjoy. Would definitely stay here again if we return to this area. Did not eat at the property so I cannot comment on the attached restaurant. 09 August 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by The Good and Bad The hotel stay overall was very good. My wife and I felt that the reward for membership was very cheesy. We received a snack from a Rice Krispy box and a bottle of water. We also received a coupon for breakfast which entitled us to $4 off of breakfast. We have stayed at other hotels where the breakfast was included we felt that this was a very poor reward for the members. We felt that the staff provided great service as well as the hotel being very comfortable. 01 August 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean, comfortable, newer & great staff. Everything was above average and always nice to stay at a hotel that is exceptionally clean and everything is like new. Our only complaint was the coupon for either one of 3 items for "free" breakfast or any menu item at a $4 discount. I decided to pick a waffle and use the $4 discount because it wasn't one of the 3 free options. I've had a lot of waffles in my 52 years and this was the worst one ever. Take a pass on the resturant attached next door and eat elsewhere. Wish they provided the now standard breakfast other hotels include. Other than the breakfast an excellent hotel. We have a freshman at SIU so we will be back many times over the next 4 years. 23 July 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great hotel, terrible restaurant our room was one of the best we have ever had...great comfortable beds, the pillows (soft) were awesome...we are trying to find out if we can purchase a couple... the restaurant (Boondocks) was horrible...even with the discount breakfast, it was horrible...day one the biscuits were burnt onto the serving dish and no bacon or sausage left...we had to ask and the bacon was SO OVERCOOKED it tasted burnt... the second morning, they had to make the omelet 3 times...,yes 3...ordered as mushroom/onion/tomato...came out first as peppers and cheese, second one came out with spinach and almost whole large mushrooms, no tomatoes...and the thirds had hardly any mushroom and we had to ask them to bring tomatoes to put on it....can't figure how you can get it wrong so many times...spinach wasn't even a choice on the omelet vegetables...lol 19 July 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Highly recommend this hotel We had an excellent four night stay at the Holiday Inn-Carbondale over the 4th of July. The front desk staff was exceptional! All of staff we encountered during our visit were professional, friendly and very accommodating. The staff should all be recognized for their excellent customer service and work attitude. Hotel property was in very good condition; room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the outside patio and hotel proximity to Walkers Bluff, the Shawnee Wine Trail, and the Carbondale restaurants and shopping. We will definitely stay at this property the next time we are visiting southern Illinois. 12 July 2013

Room nice size, but on my second night of stay I noticed that when my room was cleaned during the day, the bedcovers were barely pulled up and the pillows were in the same bunched-up configuration as I left them in when going out for the day. 29 June 2013

I had a room on the second floor and there was a party/reception with very loud music until very late in the night in one of the first floor conference rooms. Friends staying on 3rd floor said it was quiet. So, it's a nice place, but stay above 2nd floor. 07 June 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by The only place we stay in Carbondale IL Since my son started college at SIUC, this is the only hotel we stay at.. He graduated last week and we really will miss Carbondale, and this hotel. I have stayed at a lot of hotels in the past, but this staff is exceptional. They are friendly. professional and cant seem to do enough for you. We had a few minor problems, but the Manager and staff made sure it was corrected in a very timely manor. They could not do enough to make up for it. The hotel is beautiful,stylish, and clean. I would love to see the patio more comfortable. We love to hang out there when the weather is nice. The restaurant, Boondocks was very good for a place that was only open a few weeks before graduation weekend, staff was terrific, food was good, needs work on breakfast. I am sure they got feedback on this and will work on it. I will always stay here when in Carbondale 20 May 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Clean, Basic, Some Flaws Everything was what one would expect from a basic hotel. It was clean. The staff was courteous and efficient. Flaws: The walls are thin so we could clearly hear laughter and conversation from the room next door. The restaurant associated with the hotel for breakfast was atrocious. The buffet was not even tempting, with a limited selection of foods swimming in grease. The wait staff was nice but it took a VERY long time for food or beverages to arrive. As early as 9:00 a.m. they were out of the oatmeal they advertised as a specialty. It turned out to be Quaker instant. The french toast was actually from frozen packs of cinnamon rolls. They said they were breaking in a new cook, but the kitchen reeked of incompetence. The bathroom sink drained slowly. They promptly sent up a maintenance man to fix it. The result was that he didn't fix it. 17 May 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stay elsewhere, if you can! The hotel is one of the nicer ones in Carbondale, presentable lobby, etc. but we came back very disappointed in the HI. We were visiting our son at SIU for the weekend and were really looking forward to a fun trip! On our second morning at 10am, Housekeeping knocked on one of our 2 adjoining rooms asking to clean. My son in the first room told them to come back later. We left the premises at noon that day, ensuring that we removed the Do not Remove tag from the doors. In fact, we doubled back because we had forgotten something and we would have seen the signs blocking the key card slot. We returned at 8pm to find both rooms still dirty, towels in the tub, garbage cans and the beds unmade. I called the front desk and they were very apologetic but unable to send anyone to clean because of the late hour. They sent up towels, shampoos, etc. I made our own beds. I inquired as to how this could happen to not one but two rooms! They came back with the reply that their housekeeper told them that we didn't want the rooms cleaned. Of course, it's our word against their employee's word, but we were very disappointed with the handling. Clearly, if housekeeping doesn't feel like working their full load, it's not a bad excuse to give - "the guests had their DO Not Disturb signs" on the door. They did try to make amends by posting a extra award points. 26 April 2013

Spent 35 minutes on the phone with a help line provided to me by the front desk people and they still couldn't get me connected. Finally had someone from the front desk bring me a bridge to plug my computer in and it was patchy at best. This is terrible for people who stay needing to accomplish a workload. Also, the breakfast was sub par. I realize your restaurant was under construction, but your set-up for breakfast in the morning was nothing compared to other Holiday Inns I have stayed at in the past. Please consider fixing these things to appease guests in the future. Will unfortunately not be staying here again. 26 March 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good Stay - Could be Better The front desk staff was very friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. We stayed in a whirlpool room, which was a bit of a disappointment. The whirlpool isn't in the bathroom; it is in the room about ten feet from the bed and five feet from the TV. One person couldn't watch TV while the other was in the tub. It was too noisy. This HI doesn't have a free breakfast. You get a $4 coupon for breakfast at the restaurant that is in the same building. We stayed on a Saturday night and the restaurant closes for Sunday breakfast at 10:00 AM. So no breakfast if you sleep in. Overall,not bad. But it could have been better. 02 March 2013
