Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Mudpie Average Room bathroom needs updating in the room
Well located for SWALEC stadium. Parking facilities also very good.
Breakfast buffet was OK although on the expensive side, particularly as there are other places to eat not far from the hotel. There was also quite a lot of noise from the road (even though we were on the fifth floor)
Issues with the room -
-Bathroom, there was a surprising amount of mildew on the grout and sealant. Not surprising as the extractor fan did not work at all.
-When the tissue box in the bathroom was empty, I rang reception (No answer from housekeeping), a man came up with a toilet roll. I explained we had toilet rolls but no tissues. His initial response was that he could not do anything as housekeeping was closed. Only when I insisted did he obtain a tissue box. I shouldn't have had to insist.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hardy34 Leisure stay in Cardiff
A straight forward visit to the hotel which was very middle of the road and at times a touch lacking but nothing too major.
Staff were average and were helpful when need be but again nothing to distinguish between other hotel brands. Nevertheless it wasn't all bad was adequate for a short stay.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Anil_NYC Good location, but needs updating
We chose this hotel due to its location across from Sophia gardens, and its proximity to Swalec Statium (location of the main event for us). We had just arrived from a two day stay the Holiday Inn in Bristol.
In my view the rooms were quite disappointing at this hotel, particularly compared to its sister hotels in Bristol & elsewhere. The room did not have a safe or a refrigerator (which is unheard of in this day & age), and the bathroom was very dated. I think the rooms need a major facelift to meet the expectations based on the price being charged. Location and staff were the only plus for us.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MJC 1 Gret Hotel with great location and staff
We stayed here for a single night while sightseeing,
We booked two rooms online but a couple of days prior to our visit I requested adjoining rooms, the staff were very polite and arranged our room request..
The rooms were clean and spacious and suited our needs. We paid extra for the evening meal deal, was a bit apprehensive as it said to choose from a set meal.
On arrival to the restaurant we found the waitress although mainly on her own excellent, very polite and explaining everything. The choice of food turned out to be very good along with the quality of the food.
Breakfast was also fine with a nice buffet selection.
The hotel was easy to find with the parking no problem
Overall although it was only one night we had a very pleasant stay and would not hesitate to use again

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by True Brit Comfortable , centrally convenient hotel.
Comfortable, centrally placed hotel near many of Cardiff's top attractions. Many of the hotel bedrooms overlook beautiful Cardiff Castle Park and Castle . Good
travel connections to local train/bus station and airport.
For Rugby fans, the ideal hotel being minutes away from the Millenium Stadium. Perfect location for a short City Break.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Raffe comfortable rooms and great breakfast
As a member of the hotel's reward scheme I enjoyed free wifi and a daily paper. The room was excellent - clean and comfortable. It is in an excellent position for the city centre and a water bus is near by to take you to the harbour. Food at breakfast was excellent - they have a pancake machine! All staff were friendly and helpful. Parking is available and at a good rate compared to typical city centre parking.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Average stay
The overall stay at the Hotel was good but the not the best. Unfortunately we will not be staying in the Holiday Inn again. The food was absolutely lovely- probably the best part of our stay. The hotel was in a great central location near Bute Park and Cardiff Castle, so great for sightseeing. But our major problem was the incompetence of the hotel staff. We did not have our room cleaned throughout our whole stay which was very disappointing.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Brads at Bristol Great location and breakfast
This hotel is not pretty from the outside, but is opposite Cardiff Castle, the park, and next to the Millennium Stadium. There is also a water bus service to Cardiff Bay. The rooms were an adequate size, with good beds and bathroom facilities. Breakfast was excellent, with a variety of healthy foods and a pancake maker! The hotel is also close to the train station, shopping centres and museum - everything within a 10 minute walk.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bowoman58 Comfortable bed, wonderful breakfast
Our stay at the Holiday Inn, Cardiff was great. Even though we arrived several hours early it wasn’t a problem. We checked into our 3rd floor room and were delighted that the view directly faced Cardiff Castle!
The room temperature was perfect, bath towels were big and fluffy, and the bed very comfortable, we both got a great sleep. The room itself was slightly smaller than what we’re used to from Holiday Inn, but the use of space was exceedingly economical (the hair dryer is actually mounted in a dresser drawer).
Breakfast buffet was beautifully laid out with a wide variety of items to choose from including – but not limited to – sausage, black pudding, two types of egg, beans, fresh fruit, pancakes, yogurts, forest berry topping, and pastries.
We’d definitely stay again. Well done, Holiday Inn Cardiff!

When arriving at the hotel were greeted in a very friendly manner and treated like a valued customer. Staff in the hotel were polite and very professional. The room was clean and comfortable however the noise from the road outside was intrusive. All in all a good stay in an excellent hotel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LeeJ79 A good hotel in a good location
Holiday Inn Cardiff is my hotel of choice when i need to visit Cardiff on business. The hotel location is convenient for the city centre, meaning I can get to work easily and I have plenty of after work options to relax. The hotel itself is well decorated and maintained, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. My room was clean and fresh, and I had a comfortable nights sleep. I ate in the restaurant for this trip, and the food (medium rare rump steak) was good quality, well prepared and tasty. My only gripe for this trip (and this may be directed at IHG rather than HI Cardiff directly) is that a 10% service charge was auto added to my food bill. Whilst the staff were happy to take this off I feel it is unnecessary to add this charge by default. I am a business traveller, and require receipts to claim expenses. My company will not reimburse tips/service charges that appear on food bills. If I receive good service, I will choose to personally tip in cash at my own expense. This also happened recently at another HI, hence why I wonder if it is a new IHG policy?

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Undecimo Good central location but tiny noisy room
Very convenient location next to Cardiff Castle and the Millenium Stadium. Only a few minutes' walk to get into the city centre. I was in a standard room which was tiny. Regretted not registering for an upgrade. Furniture was rather worn. My room faced the main road (Castle Street) which made it noisy even with the windows closed. I managed to sleep through the noise but others might not be so lucky. Standard WiFi speed was slow - forget about streaming video! On the plus side, breakfast was tasty with a good selection of items and the bed was comfortable. For the average quality, I thought the room rate offered poor value for money - but due to the high demand around the time of the Super Cup Final, the price was probably inflated.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hutty Overall experience
Normally we mark up excellent for all our stays, but we have had to adjust this time, mainly due to internal noise which greatly affected our stay.
Our first night the noise level until 10pm was dreadful due to other guests, young boys mainly who were above us. Heaven knows what they were doing. Did mention this to the desk in the morning, who were aware of the problem. The next night was better, but still more noise than I would consider acceptable.
The one item of room comfort was a bulb not working in the room, which we had rectified after the first day.
We still enjoyed our stay, appreciate the noise was not the hotel fault.
We are staying a weekend at the Holiday Inn at Gloucester on the 22nd August and will return to Cardiff soon.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by CheB comfortable bed but check room before you get comfy!
There were so many spiders outside the window that I had to close the curtains (I counted 10 large ones within half an hour!). The tiny bath had a shower curtain set up for a corner cubicle so that the usable space was reduced to about a third. Impossible to shower in without getting wrapped in the curtain!
The bath had hairs in it from the previous occupant.
Over bed lighting did not work.
HOWEVER, bed was comfortable and the air con allowed for a good night's sleep (if you can block out the other horrors). The staff did take my concerns on board and switched rooms for me. I cannot fault their enthusiasm and help.
I would recommend a twin room rather than a double as you get much more space, often at the same price!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by mexicanlights A good value room in city centre.
This hotel is what you can expect from this type of hotel. It was clean and tidy room but had signs of ware and tare. ...
The mattress was very uncomfortable. ...this appears to be typical with holiday inn, chester, london, stratford Upon Avon. Where as Premier Inn in same areas do appear to have much better mattresses. Hence I now normally stay with premier inn.
On leaving was asked by staff how was the stay, I stated the above which was largely ignored and told I should of requested a change of room.... Not much help as you are checking out, also who wants to change room when you have jyst got in from a long day out. Holiday inn if you want feedback please accept it in the good faith it is given....
Also as a priority member was asked what paper I would like in the morning...no paper, advised they did not have this national broardsheet...

You expect good service from a Holiday Inn and this is what we got, friendly staff, clean hotel, comfy rooms, speedy check-in and check-out.
Our only minor problem was at breakfast where they could not keep up with demand at the buffet counter.
But a great location for a city visit, easy to find and not to far to walk back to when your carrying all your wife's shopping !!
