Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great service The overall hotel is pleasant with apple parking available which is always a plus for a city centre hotel. The rooms are in need of and upgrade especially the bathrooms however were all very clean. Nice breakfast with a good variety all round. There are no leisure facilities available which out would expect. Will certainly stay again. 30 November 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Small room I have been staying at this hotel for approximately 8 years and with the exception of this visit have always enjoyed my stay. Positive comments go to the restaurant and its staff where both the food and service was of a high standard. As a platinum member for as long as I can remember its always good to see that my request for an upgrade are granted however on this occassion for my 4 night stay I was allocated the smallest room ever at this hotel without even a comfy chair to sit on, and after a 4 hr journey all you want to do is climb into bed rather than complain; lets face it if a better room is available it should have been allocated. poor showing by the hotel staff ! Even my colleuge who is new to the priority club had a better room. 26 November 2013

Staff arranged for my son to have a warm up in the bar before the audition, which really settled his nerves. We were very grateful for the understanding of the staff to arrange this. 25 November 2013

It provided an excellent and central base for a short visit to Cardiff from where we could enjoy fully all that Cardiff has to offer. We were able to leave our luggage all day on the last day which was a great help. 11 November 2013

I booked a superior room on the website to secure a twin room, but on arrival we were told that they are not twin rooms, but we were immediately changed to a standard twin and the additional money paid was refunded. Room was a good size and cleaniless was also good although I would say the bathrooms are very compact. Staff were friendly, courteous and helpful, when we asked about the bus service to Cardiff Bay, we were given good instructions and also informed of the river bus and where to find it. The Hotel is ideally located for all the main attractions. We would recommend it. 07 November 2013

The view out of the window onto the Millennium Stadium is special - even when Wales isn't playing at home! All the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 3 Days in Cardiff The Holiday Inn is an good place to stay in Cardiff. With a location opposite Cardiff Castle it is an excellent starting point for exploring the city centre. Our room was not large but the layout maximised the available space and as a result it felt very spacious. The bed was comfortable and we had a view of the river and the Millenium Stadium. Breakfast was seved on the ground floor and both the food and the choice exceeded expectations and the staff were efficient and friendly. Restaurants, bars and shopping are all within easy walking distance. We would definitely stay here again without hesistation. 03 November 2013

Food in the bar was good and well priced with great staff. The only non positive thing would be the cost of breakfast, £19 is a little over the top for 2 adults I feel. I would definatly stay here again though if in cardiff area again. 01 November 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really Enjoyable We had a one night stay midweek & it was really enjoyable. We've stayed here several times before and have always enjoyed it. Some visits were better than others, depending on which room you are allocated. On this occasion the room was great - I had asked for a high floor if possible & not near a lift. The staff were really helpful & sorted this for me. On arrival we booked into what was a really quiet room. As usual, the room was well appointed & clean. We were at the back of the hotel with a view of Cardiff Arms Park & the Millennium Stadium - we've had Castle View rooms before, which is really nice, but the rear view is also fine - Castle View rooms also get the most traffic noise. We didn't have an evening meal at the hotel, so I can't comment on that. The breakfast was, as usual, really brilliant. The choice and quality are the best we have experienced at any hotel we have stayed at - & you get to look at the Millennium Stadium while you eat it! All the staff we encountered were welcoming, polite & friendly. The Holiday Inn Cardiff has a very relaxed feel to it generally, and is right in the centre of Cardiff - Bute Park, shops & bars all within easy walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay & will certainly come again. 29 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Hotel Having stayed at various hotels in Cardiff over the past 20 years, I have to say without any doubt whatsoever, that this is the best hotel my wife and i have ever stayed in. I had emailed the hotel in advance and had advised that my wife had just come out of hospital and I requested a quiet room. This we got as well as a complimentary bowl of fruit and a get well card, which was unexpected and my wife was really grateful for their kind attention. The purpose of us being in Cardiff was for my annual Regimental Reunion and overall was a great weekend made extra special by the kind hospitality received from the Holiday Inn staff. A special mention for Stacey on reception, who made us very welcome from the start. Will definitely stay again. Before I booked out, I was asked how many points I would give out of Ten, I responded 'eleven'. Well done Holiday Inn and thank you. 21 October 2013

In the past service has been ....ok but on my most recent visit I noticed something had changed...for the better. My experience from first interaction at Check-in to last interaction at Check-Out was absolutely excellent leaving me feeling that the Hotel Team genuinely cared about my experience. The Team in the restaurant, both breakfast and in the evening were outstanding, friendly and went out of their way to ensure that everything was as I wished. The Reception Team were attentive and very friendly. In the past I have had to wait whilst someone behind the counter 'looked busy' however on this occasion I felt that the customer was always going to come first. I don't know what has happened, perhaps a change of Manager? a new Team? ... but whatever it is, it is working. The service in the past was not bad otherwise I would not have returned however they are now delivering a service that exceeds expectation. I am looking forward to returning. 19 October 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Three good nights Wife & I brought my 91 yo father for a memorial ceremony inland. The first night our executive room had a tired old mattress which sank in towards the middle & was at the front of the hotel with all the traffic noise & constant sirens. It also had a battered & used look with broken trim & cigarette burns in several places. Not what I expect from an executive room. However the excellent young lady on the desk (Hi Sam!) moved us to a double at the rear which had a much better mattress & was v. quiet. She also refunded the difference & promised to have housekeeping & maintenance check our original over. It's a shame that all the executive rooms are at the front. Restaurant was good, food simple but good; bar pleasant with view out to street & castle, friendly & pleasant young lady serving. Especial credit to Dan in the restaurant, Loreta in the bar & Sam and the other young ladies in reception, all of whom were extremely helpful & courteous, a credit to the hotel. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Little disappointed Stayed at the HI Cardiff Central late September early October for 5 nights. Good points: Right next to Millennium Stadium, City Centre and right opposite the Castle. Welcome good (Reine??) and as was staying a long time had a large family room to myself which was all ready on arrival. Top floor has good views over western city. Parking free for Platinum level club members - bonus!!! Bad points Shower was pitiful. I complained twice and requested if a note could be provided if nothing could be done but no message was left. Saw Manager on third time and he arranged for another room but as this was much smaller and at front of hotel was not really suitable. Disappointed he did not know the shower in this room was poor as there was a programme of improvements going on but this room was not included! Bath also took an age to fill (20mins) which will be related to poor shower. Shower curtain only had one layer so wrapped to one when showering - also smelled musty. Room was at side not rear as requested in booking but possibly because of having a family room. Apart from the shower a good stay and it only rained on the last day!!! 17 October 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Restaurant manager feedback My wife and I had an good overall experiance from our overnight night stay in you cardif hotel. The staff in the main had demonstrated excellant behaviours towards us and other guests staying at the same time. One blip from our point of view was the distant abrupt approach from your restaurant manager when we went for breakfast. Despite us saying good morning to him twice we were ignored because he was focussed on being (looking) efficient in his work. No problem with other restuarant staff attitudes, getting a table or being served in good time. We put it down to lack of attention at the time by the manager but is something for you to be aware of. Also I found the bed uncomfortable with a distinct slope into the middle. This is usualy found to be an issue with older mattresses I find. Other than what is mentioned above thank you for a pleasant stay. 16 October 2013

The staff are always really helpful, the breakfast is good and the rooms clean with air conditioning that works. But the TV, BBC1,2 and ITV1 in HD repeated as channels 7, 8 and 9 in non HD, several that just don't work Pick, Sky1, and worst of all channel 6 as a hotel info channel, but no BBC4 or any of the +1 channels.. 07 October 2013

Room was excellent - spacious and clean. One slight disappointment was the wifi. Fortunately I am entitled to free wifi through my priority club status., However, this is pretty useless if the speed of the 'free' service is restricted so much so that web pages do not load and emails do not download. 07 October 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not good enough The room was poorly lit and cold until a plug-in heater was brought to us. Not enough draw space for two people for two nights. Much banging of service door alongside our room at night. Dinner in restaurant 1/10/2013 was unacceptable. Pie-crust hard and brittle. Peas like bullets. Mashed potato oddly grey. My wife ordered chocolate brownie and I ordered a cup of coffee. They appeared on the same plate. On request, the waiter produced a saucer and placed the coffee on it. The brownie was very stale and inedible. The cost was struck off our bill. I had ordered a large glass of Chardonnay and was shocked to be charged £7.95 for 250 ml of what was surely no more than a house white. There was a survey form on the table and I wrote some of the above on it. No attempt was made to speak to us before we left the hotel on 3/10/2013. and there has been no communication in the four days since then. So what happened to the survey? 06 October 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Overall - But Stag Do Issues! Great Location, Nice and Clean, Well Kept, Polite Staff .. But.. We were very displeased to find that as two women travelling alone we had been sandwiched between the various rooms of a Stag Do after specifically requesting in our booking to be placed on a quiet floor. They had music on loud which was audible from our room before they left for their night out, they then stomped in at 3:45 screaming, shouting, slamming doors and being generally unpleasant for over half an hour. We felt uncomfortable and unsafe asking them to be quiet as they were clearly drunk and rowdy, so the next day we informed the desk staff about our broken night's sleep. They kindly offered to move us to another room, with our busy day of exploring we mentioned that we would be unable to pack up all our belongings to do this. So they offered to speak to the men in question to ask them to respect the other users of the Hotel. We had no issues the next night, but were very annoyed that no common sense had been used when these men checked in and were placed on the same floor and then us arriving later were placed smack bang in the middle of them. Even if we had just been put at the end of the floor or on another floor, this would have dealt with the noise issue. Additionally, we were very surprised to find that unlike most Holiday Inns around the country, this one did not have free Wi-Fi. We would possibly go back as long as we could be promised a quiet room as everything else was lovely! 02 October 2013

The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent but it is a pity that unlike some other Holiday Inn hotels and the majority of hotels today, the Wi-Fi internet is not complimentary and is charged @ £5/hour (1 hour from log on and not 1 hour of use over your stay ). I would recommend this hotel for the leisure traveller but not for a business stay. 02 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Big service improvement!!! I've stayed here loads of times an always found it pretty average (apart from the location which is great!!). My last stay though (23/9/13) was in a different league!! The welcome was warm, friendly and certainly a cut above the usual. As a Platinum card holder I got a complimenatary upgrade which hardly ever happened at this H.I. The service of the front desk staff was exemplorary, they really went the extra mile and it made a difference. This last stay has reinstilled my faith in the H.I. Cardiff, they seem like they have really 'got' the importance of customer service..........looking forward to my next stay!!! 27 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great city break visiting friends Hotel is in the perfect position in Castle Street for the city centre and the historic castle. First room allocated had an air conditioning unit outside, as a light sleeper this could have spoilt the stay, however, a quick call to reception and we were relocated a great room within 5 minutes. Great service. I would recommend The Holiday Inn Cardiff City Centre for a city break or a trip to watch the rugby. 26 September 2013
