Generally a good hotel to stay. The lobby, lounge, and bedroom size is excellent. As I stayed in many of IHG properties in many countries, I can say that their lobby, lounge, decoration, and room size can easily meet Intercontinental or Crowne Plaza standard. The meeting room, ballroom, fitness centre, and chandelier decorate in this hotel is nothing less than 5 stars level.
However, I have to admit that the room is old and the carpet is surely shows its age and quite smelly. The elevators are old and noisy. One of an elevator (glass elevators) went out of order. The button on elevators need to be fix. The lighting in corridor is relatively dark. The concierge gave me numerous guidebooks and maps instead of advise I should get, The worst case is that I have to carry my own bags to and from my room. If you look at the facilities and decorations, you expected bell service not self-services. The staffs are not bad at doing their job BUT far from being trained to accommodate business travelers. I suggest that renovation of bedrooms and elevators along with retraining the service staffs will likely to enhance the hotel status. Lunch service is not the best as it is very plain in many aspects. Staffs are friendly and good service mind in restaurant functions. However, the cleanliness is the main issue, I do not feel very comfortable during my breakfast time as the restaurant was crowded and the staffs cleaning table rather quickly, which make the table not very clean. Food quality is poor, cook manner at the egg section is not the best. I rather say he is rude when calling customers to hand our plate to him. It is rather negative experience for this aspect. Food quality at noodle section is poor, pork ball ended up having bone inside the meat ball which showed that the quality of meat ball is relatively poor.
The parking staffs were not helpful while I am parking my car. But when I am leaving the hotel, he tried to give me direction which is an improvement in this aspect. In general, it is ashamed that hotel good facilities and room size is ended up in Holiday Inn class instead of Crowne Plaza or Intercontinental (as IHG customers, I do not mind to pay more for better services). The hotel has all necessary infrastructure to be 5 stars in Chiangmai area, However, it is important for the staffs to be retrain and renovation must be done along with food qualities must be examine.

Our booking and initial check-in met with a glitch but Reservations Manager Ms Panatsaya N. resolved it with professionalism and charming graciousness. She is indeed an asset to Holiday Inn Chiang Mai and IHG. And a pride to the Thai hospitality industry.
Platinum status was acknowledged; lovely refurbished rooms more than met our needs, view of Ping River was beautiful.
Concierge was patient and helpful with information; restaurant recommendations especially, were excellent.
There is room to work toward a more enhanced breakfast experience in the main dining area both in terms of service and food quality.
As noted in some reviews, there were tour groups as well as year-end company events which were held there during our November stay, so lobby and dining rooms were crowded but it did not bother us as t is a positive indication of thriving business; Holiday Inn has never pretended to be an exclusive property.
Nonetheless, it is a charming hotel which provides excellent value in an industry where it will always the people who makes the difference. My difficult teenagers gave Holiday Inn Chiang Mai a 5 rating.
