Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by comfortable stay Only really used hotel for sleeping purposes as out most of the day/evening. Clean comfortable room. Room temp easily controlled. Decent size bathroom, clean. Milk in hospitality tray seemed to be rationed, but easily got more from reception 19 November 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Stay not as expected standard of other Holiday Inn stays The attention to detail on this stay was poor. The bedroom door lock did not work, the battery for the remote control also did not work. Both were sorted after complaining, but we should not to point these out. The restraint tok for ever to answer the phone, at one stage kept on ringer that long it was transferred to the reception, who immediately transferred the call back And it took ages befor it was answered. The morning alarm calls requested did not happen, in all very disappointed with this stay. 18 November 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay but do not eat. Could not fault the service and cleanliness of the room. Staff always welcoming and service with a smile. Rooms away from A12 very quiet so good nights sleep. However restaurant was very poor. Late afternoon coffee ordered lemon drizzle cake no cake available of any sort. So was offered biscuits for two adults and ordered one club sandwich to be shared by other two.... worst ever. Chicken dried out and tough rest of sandwich very poor. Six adults had evening meal 3 were very bad, pork and gammon dried out and very tough. Complained to chef through waitress no response. Next day after family celebration lunch in Colchester had to eat dinner in hotel due drink drive. Did not want to but no choice had to order something that chef could not destroy, restaurant slightly cold so ordered Chilli. This was OK. Breakfast two days running big choice but hot food was luke warm and cold by the time carried to table. Stay at the hotel but do not eat in the restaurant. Message for the management do a mystery shopper exercise at your restaurant. 13 November 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Basic hotel but staff, although overworked, very friendly and helpful Rooms can be very warm but if you open a window the noise of the traffic horrendous. Air conditioning needs modernising as does the bathroom and all bathroom fittings which are stiff and not very clean. For an executive room fresh milk on the tea trolley and biscuits would be appreciated. Also maybe it is time to do away with the antiquated bath/shower system and put in a stand alone shower.
