Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor hotel Arrived at hotel was greeted by a friendly member of staff at reception who was very helpful. However upon reaching the executive room that had been booked it was noticed how the furniture was worn and broken, bathroom titles broken and dirty, and only single glazed windows which let in a lot of noise and cold air as they did not shut properly. Heated towel rail also did not work. The pool was extremely nice to relax in and was clean with friendly staff. We decided to eat in the restaurant at night as we could use our Tastecard, but when arriving at restaurant they were telling people they don't open till 6:30 and need to wait at the bar though it was already 6:32. Once we were seated it was another long wait before we were asked our order though the tables around us were seated after us and had had their orders taken. The food was very poor and was definitely not worth the money and was tasteless. Many people at restaurant were complaining about service and wait and the two waitresses claimed it was a very busy night though the restaurant only had a few guests in it. When it came to getting the bill there was confusion over the tastecard as they did not know how it worked and what discount we got though the advertise the tastecard as you walk into the hotel. At breakfast the tables were unclean and dirty mugs on clean tables and it just generally didnt seem organised though we were the first down to breakfast. Hotel needs to be revamped and organised properly especially compared to other Holiday Inns where we have had fantastic stays - would recommend Ipswich Holiday Inn which isnt too far from Colchester. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cool Colchester Holiday Inn was 'hot' in heatwave Spent a couple of days during a heatwave at the hotel. Great facilities and attentive staff helped me to stay cool. I like the fact that the hotel is quite big but feels quite personal. I will be staying again! July 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Our weekend away visiting family We had a wonderful time staying at this hotel from the minute we got there. Staff were very nice, accommodation was great and comfortable, a little noise at night from having window open but nothing we couldn't get used to, nice view of Rabbits at night love wildlife. We had a cooked breakfast every morning which was lovely and a great variety of foods to choose from at breakfast which we loved and tried. Overall we loved our stay staff very nice and helpful which made our stay good Our room was great what more can I say would definitely stay there again when visiting family. July 16, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Holliday Inn Problems I have just stayed at the Colchester Holliday Inn and was satisfied with almost all aspects of the service and Hotel, until I decided to eat. There appears to be a lack of management organisation within the restaurant, leaving partially trained staff to attempt to service too many clients. They were all very pleasant and helpful but did not have the back-up they required to give a good service. What a shame! July 8, 2015
