Derby isn't the nicest city I've ever had cause to visit but if you do need to be there this hotel is well placed for most things. 29 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by superb travel hotel We used this hotel as a stop off between Glasgow and Cornwall. We booked an executive room and the extra cost was well worth the money. Superb new hotel very centrally located. Discount parking at multi storey car park across the road. (£7.50 for 24 hrs.) It is a 5 minute walk to the hotel so if possible drop off passengers and cases first then park. Friendly staff, very large room, peaceful and secure. Bedroom, seating area and bathroom all very well equipped. We booked this as a travel hotel but would happily use a hotel of this standard for a full holiday break. Faultless and highly recommended. 29 September 2013

Surrounded by Museum, Shopping Mall, very good restaurant... you name it you have it at walkable distance. Hotel has all the Amenities which a traveler or visitor requires. It was wonderful experience staying in Derby and great Service @HolidayInn has definitely made it more memorable. Great value for Money !!! 23 September 2013

However the rooms were lovely and luxurious. The breakfast was also a little dissapointing, there weren't enough staff on duty really for number of people in restaurant. My girlfriend and I, had a night out in derby, having not been to derby on a night out before, the help that the reservations girl Clair gave us was first class. She made me feel like I was talking to a friend. All the staff where spot on. I myself have been in the hotel licensing trade for 25yrs, and would not hesitate in recommending this hotel. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Welcoming and comfortable stay We only stayed one night at this hotel before visiting Alton Towers and it was one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed at. Very good value for money as booked the family saver which provided 2 inter connecting rooms at a 50% discount. The rooms were modern, spotless, spacious and well decorated/furnished. Staff (especially Dave at Front Desk) were extremely helpful and courteous making us feel like individuals rather than just part of their job. Really can't recommend ths hotel enough and will stay again whenever I revisit the area. The only thing to bear in mind is parking at Westfield. I do recommend dropping bags/infirm passengers/very young children with your partner off at the hotel first as, although it is only a couple of minutes walk it is still a juggle with steps and main roads to manage. 16 August 2013

A great place to start off our holiday. A hotel to remember and use again. The one way system can be confusing but that's not the design of Holiday Inn. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Real Gem! This hotel stay was excellent from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. On checking in, room allocation changes as a result of a last minute reduction in the size of our party were dealt with smoothly and efficiently with no fuss. The hotel is very new and the rooms are spacious and well designed, and they include many features that I have often found myself asking "why haven't they got so and so in here?!" in other hotels. There is a small fitness room with high quality machines and equipment on the 2nd floor. The 4th floor bar is open plan and welcoming with comfortable seating and views across the city. Breakfast was a serve yourself buffet with plenty of hot and cold choices and the standard of food was excellent. All the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, even whilst having a wedding reception to deal with during the evening. The reduced rate car park is part of a huge shopping centre and indoor market complex and is only a couple of minutes' walk from the hotel. Having arrived at the car park at 9am on Saturday morning we only had to pay the reduced rate for one night's parking until midnight on Sunday. All in all a most enjoyable stay at a very reasonable price and I look forward to staying there again. 12 August 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Helpful staff, quiet room I stayed here twice with my family in inter-connecting rooms on the family saver rate which was a great deal as it is hard to come by accommodation of this comfort and quality to suit families of 4. The rooms were quiet, did not hear other guests getting in late after a night out even though we stayed on a Friday and a Saturday night. The staff were friendly and very helpful, going above and beyond when we found a problem with the air-con in one of the rooms. Would definitely recommend staying here 08 August 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Generally OK A very modern and comfortable hotel, however, parking is a BIG problem at this hotel, you must park in a multi storey car park about a 2 minute walk away from the hotel, in addition it is not cheap to park there overnight, yes you receive a discount but it still isn't cheap! I didn't feel comfortable leaving my car there overnight and for this reason alone I will not be returning to this hotel. 03 August 2013

Had to track them down to get tea and coffee, served self for a top up! At least 5 staff on, who stood around chatting. Chef helpful. Great for Derby centre. 02 August 2013

Glad I did, this one - off stay was terrible wouldn't even expect this level of poor maintenance at a budget hotel Was desperate for a bath in this hot weather but plug was broken and they couldn't do anything about it as maintenance had left then came to go to bed and pulled the covers back to find someones dirty pants in the bed. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely hotel. Shame about the lack of parking Large, clean, well decorated rooms. The bed made us roll into the middle which was a little uncomfortable but the overall comfort of the room was very good. The food was well cooked and came in sensible portions. The only problem we had was the fact the hotel has no car park. We had to pay to park in a local Multi-storey which was very inconvenient for me as I have a disability which limits my mobility. The staff were polite and helpful. We would stay again but would re-think our arrival by dropping me and the bags at the door before going to find a parking space. 19 July 2013

Service at breakfast needs to improve. During both of my last two stays, I was not offered tea or coffee. I rarely have tea or coffee, but being asked is polite. The first time it happened the restaurant was busy serving breakfast to a coach load of people. the second time it happened the staff numbers pretty much matched the number of guests. 17 July 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by In the centre of Derby - excellent for shopping. This HI is only a few minutes from the train station and almost next door to the bus station - easy to get around without a car. It is opposite the Westfield Centre - massive indoor shopping mall with shopping/eateries/cinema etc. On the first floor was a large food court with plenty of choice for all tastes, and very reasonable indeed. We had a very nice spacious room, with large TV, AC, free WiFi is available now, quiet room at the back of hotel, bathroom with bath and large overhead nice powerful shower. In the room there was also a desk and chair, also a comfortable armchair. We did not eat in because as usual thought it rather expensive. Only downfall was that our bed dipped in the middle and was not very comfortable overall - we did tell Reception on check-out. We did not want to have to move rooms after settling in, so did not mention on our first morning. 26 May 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great low cost hotel with attentive staff We stayed for one night at Derby Riverlights. Reasonable cost and were very impressed with the comfort and attentive staff. One particular member of staff (Chris? - with blond hair) was extremely helpful and always there when we needed to asked something. Only two little problems - distance from car park to hotel and also we couldn't get into the room ourselves as systems were being updated or changed but not a real problem as Chris opened our room and made sure we were comfortable Would definitely stay again and will recommend to friends 10 May 2013

Entire hotel was extremely clean and the room was superb - way higher in spec, cleanliness and facilities than what I expected. Tip - book early to get a better room rate! Breakfast was reasonable and plenty to choose from Tip - make sure you park in the Westside Riverside Car Park to get a decent discount. Stay very pleasant Only issue was when the fire alarm went off at 1:30am. It was triggered in the next door building and it is vital to get people out rather than double check is it a fault. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by An enjoyable stay with great staff We spent two nights here in mid-January when the weather outside was cold with snow on the ground so it was a bonus that the hotel is well situated on the edge of the city centre. We thought that overnight parking would be a problem but the huge Westfield multi-storey car park is on the doorstep. Guests need to know that they should pay only £7 per night by getting their tickets validated at the hotel desk then returning to collect their cars and driving straight out. Going instead to the pay machine in the car park will cost double. This is something that should be made prominent on the website but isn't. The rooms are exceptionally well kept which is a tribute to the staff. In fact, all the staff throughout the hotel and especially in the dining area are a real credit to the hotel. Those who suffer are the ones who work in the public spaces where the ambient temperature is apt to be low, particularly in the open plan foyer where the staff were frozen. Any niggles? Not really. We did notice that meal trays, jugs etc were apt to be left outside rooms for long periods. Also, you need your room key to work the lift - a good security idea but we were given only one key so that when I went out alone to the car the key had to be left in the room to work the electrics and, on returning, I had to walk up the stairs to our floor. A nice touch would have been a small packet of biscuits on the tea/coffee tray in the room but there was nothing and it felt a little penny-pinching. The TV had an excellent picture but there are very few channels (8 or 9) which is surprising given that Freeview and Freesat have many dozens. Overall, this is a good hotel which serves a lovely breakfast and offers an excellent dining experience. You will find the staff very friendly and obliging from the chambermaid to the waitresses to the desk clerk. They are a real asset. A little too pricey for a mid-week visit so go at the weekend if you can when the room rate almost halves which makes it much better value. 24 January 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by perfect stay - breakfast could improve The HI was good as always. The onky constructive criticism is that breakfast could be better. Cooked breakfast is very greasy and scrambled egg has too much milk/additions - not enough egg! The fruit salad is very average quality with some fruits not being ripe and it would be GREAT if there was some fruit to take away - just a basket of apples and bananas or similar would make such a difference. As I say, apart from breakfast, great stay :) 22 January 2013
