Was ok - but overrun with tourists and so was a battle for: Lifts, Breakfast, Bar, etc....
Stayed before and loved it.
Currently undergoing rennervation so this did not help with restaurant layout etc...

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 great hotel next to the zoo
Great hotel. We picked the hotel as it's right next door to the zoo for our one night stay over. Hotel itself was great, big family room and leisure facilities such as pool, spa, gym and sauna. Breakfast was fantastic! The only downside to this hotel for us was the food in the restaurant on an evening. To expensive for not a lot on the plate. However the kids did eat free, with choice of chicken nuggets, fish fingers, noodles, pasta, chips and a salad bar. Great for kids

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by auntie97 Good stay
As expected from holiday inn a friendly welcome and friendly staff throughout stay. Do find drinks prices a little high nearly £4 for my niece to have a hot chocolate but she assured me it was nice. Very close to zoo which was handy and bus ride easy to get into Edinburgh, bus stop right outside hotel, if travelling with children go for family day ticket £8.00 ride all day. Disappointed that Weatherspoon's down the road from hotel didn't allow children in after 8pm so when we went to eat at 7-15pm they said it wasn't worth staying as we didn't have time. So ate at hotel bit on the pricey side but very good. Thanks holiday inn

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 great service and freindly staff.
Stayed at this hotel whilst taking part in the edinburgh marathon . The staff made you feel welcome and were allways very helpfull i also appreciated the the extra effort put in to help marathon runners like a pre marathon pasta menu , and other small things like information for runners placed onto the notice boards. Also great if your visiting the zoo .next to the hotel.

This was our 2nd visit to the Holiday Inn in Edinburgh and was another great time, having the zoo right next to the hotel means after a lengthy drive you can get straight to an attraction without having to go any distance. And we also like that the hotel is close to the city centre but not right in it. The bus services are quick and regular. We found it an ideal spot for a 2 night visit.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MadWelshBoyo Best Hotel in Edinburgh!!
I work away a lot and seem to live in Hotels, but the staff here bend over backwards to make your stay a good one!! After over a month here, it's still nice to check in on a Monday morning!! They make hotel living into an almost normal situation. So, names. Jordan and Chris at the bar, Martina and Julian in the restaurant, Anna, Nicola, Kirsty and Emma at reception, all fantastic staff!! Well, all the staff are great, but these guys need a pay rise!! I'll actually miss this place when the assignment ends, but the hotel, staff, and Edinburgh will always have a little bit of my heart. Hope to be back soon :)

Nice hotel and stafff and recently refurbished by the look of it. Unfortunately the bed in room 103 was very uncomfortable as the bed had a dip in the middle.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Al 26 Telephone disturbance
We were disturbed on first night between midnight and 1.00am on 6 different occassions. Manager eventually disconnected telephone. Not ideal as my wife is medically disabled, although I did have my mobile phone with me. On checking out, the front desk cancelled my bar bill because of the inconvenience. More than made up for our disturbed sleep and we will use this hotel again. as it is quite easy to get to from our home in Scone.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by David2000 An enjoyable stay
An enjoyable four night business stay at this hotel.
Staff on reception were helpful when I requested a room upgrade and although this was not initially offered as a Platinum member they did upgrade after the initial room was not acceptable.
The hotel is clean and comfortable and the rooms fleshly decorated although the furnishings are showing signs of wear.
Had dinner in the lounge one night and the initial offering was not good but the chef apologised and then produced the expected meal. Breakfast was excellent and provided a good range of choice.
Overall I always enjoy the stay at this hotel.

Good location-close to bus stop, right next to the zoo, relatively close and easy to get to downtown and airport. Disappointing it doesn't have an executive lounge. Facility seems to need some upgrading and maintenance - signs of wear in bathroom, etc.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Janette8 Pleasant Stay
Pleasant one night stay at this hotel. Staff on reception extremely friendly and helpful. Bedroom clean and comfortable. No complaints regarding this stay except evening meal. Ate at Sampans where we have dined before but disappointed in both service and quality of food this time. We stood waiting for some time to be seated despite the restaurant not being very busy and the waitress noticing us as we arrived. Starters were disappointing - mixed platter with fish cakes and spare ribs that were inedible but main course better.
Left a pair of earrings in room but housekeeping very good and posted these home to me! Many thanks Kushboo!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Paula j Our favourite holiday inn
Just returned home after yet another brilliant stay in the holiday inn. We were welcomed in by Dawn who was very efficient but friendly at the same time. We then went to our room which was as usual spotless and the bed, well so comfy. We like the normal size double bed as we get lost in the kingsize. Had a lovely evening, chilling, in and around Edinburgh taking it all in. In the morning after a great kip went to breakfast. Here we were looked after by Agnieszka, who was lovely and nothing a problem. I wanted kippers but they weren't on the menu anymore so I asked Agnieszka if it would be possible. I in turn went to ask Magdal who then got Andy the breakfast chef if I could get any. He very kindly obliged and proceeded to bring me a pair of beautifully cooked kippers accompanied by two poached eggs. I appreciated this as the hotel was very busy and yet the staff still manage to pull out all the stops for their customers. I did miss seeing Hamish at breakfast but I'll see him the next time which will be very soon. I would and do recommend this hotel all the time. The parking is also good, the gym, swimming pool etc I've not made to them yet. The bus service is also regular and reasonable. Thank you x

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Musicman1958 Comfortable but disappointing
Room was very comfortable but got too hot at times. Air con worked but was a bit noisy. Rooms on same floor were being upgraded so occasionally the smell of paint was off putting . The food in the Sanpan Restaraunt was poor. There was no taste to it. Leisure facilities were good.

Spent a family weekend (including 2 grandchildren ages 5 and 3) at the hotel. Excellent location especially for visiting the zoo and the bus stop right outside made the city very accessible. Food was of a good quality especially the breakfast and the staff were extremely polite and helpful. They were particularly courteous towards the children. The only slight criticism would be that the walls are a bit thin.

The stay was to bring the family together for a weekend. It met all our expectations.
The location was great and all the staff were so helpful.
I would rate it as the most family friendly hotel I have stayed at and accompanied by a 9 and a 13 year old that was something.
My favourite hotel in the central belt.

Stayed here many times and always relaxing stay after a busy day.
The only niggle is the 12.5% service charge in the restaurant.
Please leave this to customer to decide.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by hel10 Well located family hotel
We are a family with 2 children. Hotel is well located next to the zoo, and with excellent public transport links to the city centre.
It was immaculately clean, the staff were efficient and friendly.
Family room was a reasonable size, the beds comfortable.
We ate in the hotel 'bar ' area. Food was very good and far exceeded my expectations. The children ate free, the children's menu offers a range of healthy meals, which the kids enjoyed.
Pool area fine, and warm!
The only negative is that wifi cost £12.00. I consider it extortionate for a 4 star hotel to be charging for wifi at all, let alone £12.00. I understand it is free at the holiday inn express

This hotel was ideal for us last weekend. We had planned to spend a day at Edinburgh Zoo which is right next door and as we live some distance away, spent the previous night at the hotel to allow for a 9am start. The room was modern, quiet and clean. We slept well and found the room had everything we needed. The general appearance of the hotel interior is smart and has a dash of sparkle about it. The breakfast the next morning was good quality and the coffee excellent. After breakfast, on check out, the hotel receptionist put our bags in safe storage so that we could go to the zoo without our luggage. All in all the hotel was exactly what we needed to prepare us for a fab and full day out at the zoo and we enjoyed our stay.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Kes246 Good service
This was my first stay in a Holiday Inn. After a chilly day out at the zoo and the heavens opening, it was good to know that I only had a short walk to my hotel. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and checked me in and directed me to my room. Sadly due to the weather I could not enjoy the view from my room as where the hills should have been there was a thick bank of fog, I did get to enjoy it a bit in the morning as it was slightly more visible as the weather improved. I decided to eat in my room and phoned room service and advised my order would be about 25 minutes, not unreasonable for a busy Friday night. However, about 10 minutes later, there was a knock at my door and my supper arrived. The quality of the food was excellent. I am quite a light sleeper, so normally don't sleep well in hotels but I actually had quite a good nights sleep, it helped having a choice of pillows. The only minor faults I could find in the room was the bathroom was quite compact and I'm small, so wouldn't have like to be a big person manoeuvring in there. The only other issue was one of the curtain tracks was quite stiff and noisy. I opted not to have breakfast as it was quite expensive.

This Holiday Inn is ideally located for visitors to the famous Edinburgh Zoo, and for those wanting a City Centre experience as well, as it is only a 15 minute bus ride to the bustling city streets. The hotel staff are all very helpful and friendly, and the standard of the hotel is very high, as is the food. This trip was specifically to visit the zoo but will definitely be going back in the near future to see more of the city.

Being close to the zoo the hotel is very family friendly. The meal packages are competitive although the bar menu is quite expensive. We have been coming to the hotel for many years and find the staff helpful and courteous. Although outside the city centre the bus service into the city is very regular. We have no hesitation in recommending the hotel.

the room we ordered was a double deluxe that sleeps two ,bed was not big enough for price paid stayed in cheaper hotel and got more for less, we was told breakfast was included on arrive that was not the case ,the member of staff said she would comp them and it would not appear on the bill, guest what it did so we had to argue again to get it removed ,swimming pool inadequate for size of hotel, hotel reception staff have little to no local knowledge ,we asked for a local curry house and they asked us which one ? like we know the area ???? bar staff was excellent bar one who was awkward at every stage, the bar area was comfortable and food was brilliant, breakfast was great helpful staff .

What a nice surprise to find this hotel does what it says on the tin. If it was any nearer t the zoo you would be sleeping with the animals. Being Easter the hotel was very busy but the service given by all the staff was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. Even the regular morning refilling of the popular pancake making machine was no problem. Take note, if you have young children who can press a button, they will love this instant breakfast. Food excellent with multiple options. All tastes catered for. Don't forget to book early for the pool. Demand is quite high but worth it. Will certainly stay again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Really perfect weekend reassured by great accomodation experience
Left it a little late to book a place for the Easter Weekend and was considering B&B's as well as hotels - ridiculously overpriced at a number of locations but parents recommended this and fitted perfectly withing budget!
Staff courteous and helpful at all times. room was lovely and we were blessed with a lovely view out over the golf course and beyond.
Im sure the breakfast and other offered meals were of equal good quality but we sought alternatives to get out and about and see the city instead.
Will definitely use again and we're confident in recommending to others.

Nice hotel situated well for getting the bus outside hotel into the centre of Edinburgh. Great for those wanting to visit the zoo while staying in Edinburgh as next door. Not the most comfortable bed considering were given an upgrade at check in. Breakfast was not included in our room rate but decided to just have breakfast one morning but were going to be charged £14.95 each when you can get an all you can eat breakfast down the road for £3.99, which when one of you just wants tea and toast rather than a big breakfast was much better.
