Not a bad chaos - just crowds, traffic, shops, cyclists - all adding to the real atmosphere of this part of Guangzhou! We loved feeling we were in the middle of things - so near the pedestrian shopping street - so near Shemian Island, so near a train station, part of the crowds of busy people - yet once in the hotel - wonderful peace and quiet. And staff members who really gave us the impression they wanted us to be happy. Not once did we feel that our questions and requests for assistance were a nuisance. Every member of staff smiled and said hello - nothing was too much trouble. We stayed on the club floor and so made good use of the Executive Lounge which added to the feeling of peace - we enjoyed the evening get togethers which included drinks and a good selection of dishes meaning we didn't have to look for dinner each night. The room was clean and comfortable but with one suggestion that I wish hotel owners would all take on board - while many hotel rooms are occupied by a single person, this is not always the case and especially in a big room, having only one lounge chair and foot stool leaves the other person with no comfortable place to sit. There was a sort of window seat in this room but very uncomfortable, and the desk chair fell over if you sat back in it. This means one person has to relax on the bed to watch TV or read. A second lounge chair or a sofa would be preferable. There was also no table and chairs so if we had ordered room service would have had nowhere to sit up and eat it. The shower recess had some mold - perhaps it can be blamed on the humid climate but nothing some 'elbow grease' wouldn't have fixed. We had reason to contact the hotel by email before we arrived and were very impressed by Shirley's quick responses to our emails. We can recommend this hotel.

I had an unpleasant experience during my previous stay prior to this stay. Briefly during that stay, the housekeeping threw away my personal face towel which I typically use when I travel as I have sensitive skin. After a protracted delay, the matter was finally resolved when the Assistant Manager Shirley sent over a replacement during one of my trips to Guangzhou where I chose to stay at a different brand hotel.
So this trip when I had to attend the Canton Fair, I was pleasantly surprised that Shirley left a handwritten note on the desk when I checked in informing me that all the towels & linens were arranged to be separately laundered. I had also brought along my own face towel. This effort is very much appreciated.
Even though the wifi gave me problems throughout the stay leading me to work every morning at the breakfast table, I felt that the effort at service recovery merits mention.

Stayed at Holiday Inn Guangzhou Shifu during a business trip. The hotel is okay, just a little bit under designed. Overall satisfied with all aspect of the hotel.
