Not only does the hotel sit on the very site where the first Australian grape vine was planted but it was also built around the Treasury Building of 1851, which was home to all Premiers of NSW. However scarcely suited to transact the monetary business of the colony, in 1896 a strong room was built to specifically count the money. Today this is known as the Fort Macquarie Room.

We enjoyed three nights in Sydney at the Holiday Inn. The room was comfortable and clean. The hotel is a few miles from the town are but is VERY close to the train station. Also VERY close to Coles[More]
grocery store. Also walking distance to hop on hop off bus. Your hop on hop off ticket is good for 24 hours from the time you purchase it so you can use it for two days getting to and from the hotel if you time it correctly. Many small places to eat in the neighborhood. Staff was courteous and helpful. [Less]
We stayed here twice. Before and after a trip to the Outback we did between two cruises. The hotel location was great. Close to cruise terminal and right in the center of the Rocks activity. The[More]
hotel held most of our luggage so we could make a quick trip with just our overnight bag.
Suggestion. Heading from and to the cruise terminal would have been much easier if hotel had baggage transfer as a service. A guest can easily walk to the terminal but not with multiple suitcases. Taxi did not like us as it took longer to load luggage than to drive around the corner and we do not blame them. Hotel could have a vendor work for them when the ship's come to town. Guests would love the service and be happy to not have to deal with luggage from and to the ship! [Less]
