Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Hotel with friendly staff I stayed here with my extended family last weekend for a visit with relatives. The location is great for families with plenty of places to eat nearby and Jimmy's Farm (highly recommended) within about a 5 minute drive. The staff were friendly and were able to ensure we had adjoining rooms. The rooms were clean and adequate and the large TVs were great for the kids. The pool was also very nice. The food at breakfast was good and the staff were helpful but they seemed unable to keep up with demand so many items were unavailable. On our first day there were no pastries for around half an hour (then when more were put out they were gone within 5 minutes), they had run out of yoghurts and some cereals, the pancake machine was broken and some of the hot food items were also unavailable. Overall this a great hotel but they could do with more staff at breakfast. 07 August 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by poor customer service, good Breakfast. I chose this holiday inn to my detriment, because the Orwell branch does not have a spa. I was thoroughly disappointed and ended up not using the spa and checking out just after 10am - a lot sooner than intended as my check in experience totally put me off. We arrived after a long journey in traffic so I was definitely looking forward to a swim and some time in the spa before attending the function I came down for but unfortunately, this did not happen as I was upset by the rudeness I encountered during check-in. There was a lady hovering around whilst we were checking in which wasn't an issue till a request for a late checkout prompted a response from this lady. She spoke over me to the receptionist saying late check out can only be till 1300hrs because it's a busy weekend. I found this rude and unprofessional as my request was not directed at her. The request became a bit drawn out then the final response I got from the receptionist was that she will get back to me. She never did. Check out was a chore just one receptionist checking people out and ordering cabs. Not acceptable especially since it appeared they wanted guests out asap. In summary - rude staff, poor staffing level. Only plus was the pancake machine which my children loved. 07 August 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent base in Suffolk its great to find a clean, friendly hotel with a pool and a good quality of room and breakfast which we can use as a base for work or for exploring Suffolk for pleasure. Stayed several times and will do so again. My only criticism is how hard it is to find the direct telephone number for the hotel, without paying a charge for the call, in order to check facilities for my ambulant disabled partner. Oh, and I could also do without the piped music outside the entrance. 06 August 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing I felt the room was small and crampt, the reception were informative and unhelpful. I wasn't offered an itemised bill which would of been useful as wrongly two rooms from our group booking had been billed to me. One being the bride and grooms room which I was told would be complimentary. The breakfast was not up to scratch and again was disappointing. Others in our party were also treated unfairly, so I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Regards Emma Nolan 05 August 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good base We have used this hotel on a number of occasions over past 10 years when visiting friends/family in Suffolk. Hard to find fault. Staff very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Rooms/beds comfortable, although decor rather dated. Bathroom fine - basic toiletries provided . Air con excellent. Plenty of car parking. TV adequate. WI-FI not great- but that was only niggle. We will be using Holiday Inn Ipswich again. 22 July 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly staff and food Staff were mostly friendly and helpful. The female receptionist (foreign) handed us papers on checking in but did not guide us to room. We had not been to the hotel before and did not know the layout. Suggest training issue not to assume the customer knows this. The waiter at breakfast (foreign) seemed to have language/perception difficulty understanding basic request I.e how many teas and coffees, which we also waited ages for. He also cleared our table of things we were still eating when we had just left to go and refill our glass for juice. So, suggest training issues around being observant around the guests are required. We really enjoyed our breakfast, it was cooked well and good choice. The kids loved the pancake machine, and want to come again for that reason. 17 July 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed and good service Stayed at this hotel before our cruise from Harwick. The room was clean, comfortable and the staff were very helpful. We didn't dine at the restaurant - however we did have a drink after returning from dinner. The bar was mainly business travellers. one of the guest was subjecting others in the bar to listen to his music from his iPhone, which I found quite annoying. The room was good value for money and ideally located for our onward travelling. The wifi in the bedroom wasn't the best. However, the trip was good value and I would use again. 14 July 2014

Have an agreement w. my company where Wifi and Parking is the Wifi ticket and loged in from my Smartphone - works fine!....trying to login from my Laptop, but the code works just for one device, talks to the reception, and that is how it is...they don´t give me another code (did not even offer me to pay for it...even if I wouldnt)...really surprise. Wifi included would be without that kind of exception ...almost no one have only one device....sorry for the management that makes such decisions...and sorry for a reception that doesnt over rule it...sad! 07 July 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Holiday Inn,Ipswich 20th to 24th June 2014 Disappointed in the cost of using the internet facility and didn't take the option. I was told upon leaving that had I become a "club member" the facility would have been free. This should have been pointed out on arrival. I have now signed up to become a member as I will use group hotels in the future, but I would think it a reasonable gesture to include the 4 nights as "nights stayed " at one of the group hotels,retrospectively. 28 June 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lovelely evening meal and a big bathroom Hotel appears a little dated from the outside although the grounds were immaculate. Easy convenient parking. Large easy access ground floor room, could have done with a king size bed. Mattress was far too soft for us. Evening meal was lovely with plenty of choices and good value too, when booked in advance. Did not have time to make use of the pool or gym, but noted for next time. Breakfast excellent, but pork and leek sausages are not my favourite. 27 June 2014

Bar ran out of Gin quite early in the evening. Bathroom in the rooms were big enough for Tom Thumb, all in all a pretty disastrous stay 25 June 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Expensive executive room - don't waste your money Booked an executive room here for one night, complete waste of money. Took three goes to get into any room at all and had to change room allocation because key did not work. Room was smaller than a much cheaper budget chain I stayed at the week after for 3 nights. Gold club member and booked this based on my experience elsewhere that the executive room would be bigger with comfortable seating etc, what I got was avery standard room one chair between two and paid way too much money for the loan of a dressing gown two bottles of water and a mars bar. Tesco is down the road and take your own dressing gown. Was called by reception to pay the restaurant bill because they did not realise I had not swiped my card for extras despite the fact they had the card details and as a gold member I had enough points to cover my entire stay, let alone the evening meal bill. Really poor experience overall of customer service. Have posted this response three times and finally received a response to say it could not be posted because I mentioned the name of the budget hotel chain in comparison and was told this was not the fault of IHG because they don't run the website. Rubbish customer service and now thinking of cashing in my rewards points and cutting up the card. Don't expect anything beyond basic service and accommodation and it took the manager over a week to come back to me with a response that basically reads ho-hum 19 June 2014
