Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Standards have dropped Great location close to city centre, room was spacious and bathroom newly refurbished. Bar area was found to be quite unpleasant, large noisy groups and furniture is disarray and dirty. We couldn't find anywhere to sit in comfort so went elsewhere for our dinner and drinks. On returning we tried the bar again as there seemed to be room and the tables had been cleared up, however we were given a drink in an unwashed glass with a large lipstick mark on the rim. It makes us wonder about the hygiene practices of this bar, perhaps insufficient or untrained staff. The drink was replaced and the bar staff were apologetic but spoilt the moment so we soon retired to bed. No sleep unfortunately as we were kept awake by thumping loud music and the noise of many people walking across the floor. Obviously the room had been hired for a party. We eventually rang reception to complain and the noise abated after half an hour, although it did restart again later on. When we checked out we were asked if we had a good stay, however whenwe related our miserable night he seemed to not be listening, just going through the motions so we went on our way. Not a good stay, such a shame as this was once a great hotel, just hope ICH has not dropped its standards. February 3, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ask for a room without a connecting door. Check in was swift, but the room given had a connecting door, but everything seemed fine. The room was clean if a little dated, had everything you needed for a one night's stay and it seemed quiet. We unpacked and went to the leisure club for a swim and sauna. Upon returning to the room we heard what can only be described has an hen party in the next room. The noise was not helped by having a connecting door. I went down to reception and informed them of our dilema and asked to be moved. This was resolved very quickly by giving us another room on the top floor without any connecting door. I could not fault the service we received and every member of staff from the reception, bar, leisure centre to breakfast servers were excellent. January 26, 2016
