Stayed for a long weekend end of March 2014. Large, comfortable room, very clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Hotel is in a good location within a short walking distance of the Metro which makes it possible to travel easily to anywhere in Madrid. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

It started well with a swift friendly check-in that saw me upgraded as a Platinum traveler to a very nice and large suite. Regretfully from then on I had a number of problems. Cleanliness of the room was not up to what I expected and all through the night there was a lot of noise that made sleep difficult. I spent nearly 30 minutes trying to reach room service before giving up and calling the main switchboard on my mobile phone and ordering dinner that way !
At 3am I was awoken by a member of staff who when I opened the door mumbled something in Spanish and walked away, I tried complaining to the front desk about this but they never answered the phone so I gave up.
A nice hotel in a good location that has excellent large rooms but let down by some staff issues that need addressing.

I was there for my Madrid trip, I am a solo traveler and had my vocation there. It was a very impressive stay and couldn't be better. Everything is great, but don't forget to bring your swim cap, otherwise, you won't be allowed to go into the pool.

Booked a king bed suite, but somehow the booking was not properly transfered to the hotel. After clarification, I did receive a room according my booking. Nice spacious suite; however, the lack of power outlets at the working area downgraded the efficiency a bit. Staff helped out with a plug board. I recommend to mount additional sockets into the wall; it is just a little investment but will satisfy biz travellers need.
Breakfast offers a variety of different selection, both hot and cold, sweet and natural.
I surely will come back next time.

The hotel is a good value for money. It is comfortable and clean and staff are attentive and very professional. The location is a bit far from city center but public transportation (bus and metro) are very close by.

The only problem is that you can hear everything that happens in other rooms, something that really should be solved as I could hear all the talk of the room next door.

Overnight stopover that did not disappoint.
Arrived at airport and we called them about our arranged transfer. They sent the bus straight away which was great. (You need to book in advance)
We had 2 rooms as we're a family of 5, we also received a member upgrade on one of our rooms. Brilliant!
The staff at reception were kind enough to recommend a nice little bar a couple hundred metres up the street where we enjoyed tapas & sangria. Wish we had more time and will stay longer next time!

Lovely hotel great room very helpful staff and excellent value. Only downside was poor soundproofing between the rooms had to use my ear plugs.

Todo genial, no pudimos comprobar la comida, pero el resto todo perfecto. A excepción de que no nos han sumado los puntos del grupo IHG, todo porque hemos cogido una tarifa de oferta, me parece injusto.

This hotel was our last stop in Europe for this trip and this hotel made up for the miserable night we had at the so-called "Airport Holiday Inn Express". Our experience was so memorable we couldn't believe it - neither could the taxi drive who brought us to the hotel because of where it is situated. We made this reservation to compare with the other Holiday Inn property that's supposed to be close to the airport. This hotel has airport transportation!!! The room we were given was AMAZING!!! The value was beyond understanding especially since we used our corporate discount. The bed and comfort was delicious! The service was absolutely superb! The amenities were wonderful, the exercise facilities were comparable to a full-scale gym! The pool as well. We simply cannot say enough greatness about this hotel - this is what we would expect from a European Holiday Inn property - fabulous!

It is the second time that I stayed in that hotel and again, I was given less than confirmed by the booking contract.
This time, I have booked a king size suit. What was prepared was a tiny all room with no space and it was even promoted to me as an upgrade!
Only by reasking I received the room I had booked (suite type). Suite type room met my expectation, then.
If at my next stay there is doubt and downgrading on my booking, it will be the last time that I stay there.

Cuando venimos a Madrid venimos a este hotel, que antes se llamaba Velada Madrid. Nos gusta porque siempre tiene buena calidad precio, bien comunicado con el centro, no hay que pagar zona azul, y el trato siempre es bueno, y ya estaría genial si no tuviera moqueta.

over all the stay was excellent and that includes the attention provided by the staff, room cleanliness, room service, even the location. I think it was a 5 star stay. However, I found out a negative issue and it was the hours for the restaurant and the bar. I as a tourist I wanted to eat lunch by 12 m but restaurant served after 1:30 pm and late at night I wanted to have a drink and relax, after a day of shopping and walking, but since I usaully made it to the hotel by 10:30 pm while I showered and changed I had no time to do just that since the bar closes by 00:30 am other wise I give an excellent review and like to thank the people at the front desk very attentive and willing to hepl at all times

I have been a Platinum & Gold member of the Intercontinental brands for nearly two decades. I travel quite a bit and believe me when I tell you that I am not easy to impress, however, I was this time. Everything from service to cleanliness to confort and value exceeded my expectations. What a pleasant surprise!! Only suggestion is to have a shuttle service to downtown Madrid as this property is a little out of the way. Congratulations on a job well done!!! keep it up!

Estuvimos en un tour por toda Europa y este hotel has sido el mejor con mucha diferencia. No solo por sus habitaciones, instalaciones, desayuno buffet mucho mejor, sino por el trato recibido y amabilidad. Felicidades por su hotel y por su personal.
No esta en el centro pero fuimos en metro sin cambiar de linea. Otros amigos estuvieron dos años antes y opinan lo mismo.

Hotel very nice decorated, comfortable, and well worth the money. Reasonable close to Subway (pay attention which exit get out, other wise will make at least 150 m extra),and bus station. Your flight schedule might not match with shuttle offer, so don't count on it (take it like a bonus if you are lucky), but depend on time, could take a taxi to airport for 20 Euro, or metro if you have time. Pool was closed at that time, not sure why and for how long.
Other than that very nice spaces indoor and outdoor. Only good words about people from hotel, bar and restaurant. I didn't select the package with breakfast, and I paid for it, but worth every penny. Very large variety of tasty items for a buffet, served in an elegant restaurant.
I would definitely recommend Holiday Inn, and specially this hotel.

I have been working in Madrid and been staying here for months. have found the staff very helpful, friendly, and considerate. The hotel is in a good location for exploring Madrid or getting out onto the motorways. Taxi fares are around 15 Euros to Plaza del Sol, or you can buy a metro ticket for 12 Euros and it gives you 10 trips (every entry into the metro is 1 trip). I would reccommend any foreign visitors to stay here as they have staff who speak English, German, French, Polish, Czech, and other languages that I am sure I am not aware of! The Languages spoken by each staff member is denoted by a little flag on their name tag which is also helpful.

I've stayed at this hotel for several days during one month and there are some Hotel's policies that are not good for their customers, as for example.. to be able to leave for their storage a suitcase. Also the beds didn't had two blankets and when I requested them, they just said they don't use them. They didn't care for my relax nor my comfort and having this in mind, their rates are too expensive for the minimum services they give.

Me sorprendí gratamente con el hotel, muy buena ubicación solo a dos cuadras de metro ciudad lineal, cuentan con trasporte desde y hacia el aeropuerto.
La habitación agradable, la cama y almohadas muy cómodas.
Una excelente alternativa si tienes que estar en Madrid.
Personal de hotel cálido y preocupado por el confort del pasajero.
Volveré sin duda en mi próximo viaje.

En el hotel todo funciona muy bien, las habitaciones son muy buenas y el mantenimiento es excelente.
Reconocen a los socios Priority, y tratan muy bien y le resuelven los problemas a todos el mundo.
Una cosa importante es que cobraron exactamente lo mismo que aparecía en la reserva, sin sorpresas. Realmente da la sensación de que buscan satisfacer a los clientes. Y lo logran..

This hotel has only recently been branded a Holiday Inn and in some respects it shows. The staff didn't seem to recognise my Platinum status as they never acknowledged it although I have to say they did allow us to check-in well before the proper check-in time. Room was smaller than expected but it was very fresh and clean.
The desk staff are a bit of a mixed bunch. Some were very customer focussed and a credit to the brand while others didn't seem to be too keen on assisting the customer. Another negative is the airport shuttle. We arrived at Barajas at 7am and after waiting for an hour for the shuttle we gave up and took a taxi instead. Also had to take a taxi back to Barajas when we checked out as the shuttle doesn't operate at weekends we were told. In fact for the three days we were at the hotel the van sat idle for most of the time. The management should improve the airport shuttle service as it does attract customers if operated regularly.
As I said in the title this hotel could do better. It has the main infrastructure in place to deliver a great Holiday Inn product it just needs some tweaking.

The Holliday Inn Alcala proved to be of extraordinary value, due to its accessible location (2 subway stations under 3 minutes of walking distance), great quality and comfort, and an excellent service.
Having been to Madrid before, I must admit that this turned out to be a pleasant surprise and I'm more than happy to return to both city and hotel and to recommend it to friends and family.
The big advantages are the hotel transfer shuttle to Barajas airport, the free wifi and the very confortable beds.
Honestly, I have not identified any downsides to this property.
