We like the location of the hotel,because only a short stroll away from the places and attractions that we visit. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyable stay. Stayed for 16 days. I found the staff to be without exception very friendly , always helpful and efficient. The food is good and as a long stay visiter I had the option to contact the chef if I wanted something different from the menu. Reception area and restaurant is comfortable. Although I did not use the pool, my room overlooked it And I noticed that it was cleaned every day. The bedrooms , especially the bathroom, are looking a little tired, and my floor was only vacuumed once during my stay. The hotel is situated very near to the Southen Cross railway station which has a pharmacy and supermarket and access to the Metro. I enjoyed my stay there and will stay there again when I am next in Melbourne. 10 February 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good location but early, noisy maintenance work The hotel is well positioned, very close to the Southern Cross Station. Generally, the staff is friendly and the room is quiet. Unfortunately, this is marred by unreasonably early (before 7am) maintenance work on the rooftop which woke us up along with several other rooms. The loud noise did not cease until almost 8am, despite having notified the staff. What's worse, the same thing happened again the next morning, although it was later (~7:30am). 31 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly and competent service. My husband and I enjoyed our stay during the last week of the tennis. We found the staff to be friendly, helpful and competent. The breakfast was the highlight of our stay with a lovely selection of western food in particular the variety of fruits on offer. The lady on the egg station made superb poached eggs and was cheery and chatty all week. The only negative was the bathroom. It was small, tired and in need of upgrading. The price of the room was reasonable considering it was the week of the tennis open. All in all we had a very pleasant stay. 24 January 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Way below standard expected Once again my business travel brought me back to Melbourne and the Holiday Inn. I have stayed here many times, and each time it deems to get progressively worse. On check-in not only was I not recognised and welcomed as a Rewards Club Member, but when I pointed this out to the person at check-in I pretty much had to prove my Platinum Status as according to them, their records only had me listed as a Gold Member. Given that my profiles lists me as a Platinum Member, and that on recent travel through the US, I was indeed welcomed at that status, I find this excuse very hard to believe. He did apologise for not being able to upgrade me, however I have in the past received far better rooms than this time, even though I was at a lower status level. Went to my room and thought I would have a coffee. Boil the jug, and pour my coffee, then into the fridge to get milk. 2 small cartons in the fridge, one of which was open and empty, and the other open and half full! needless to say I opted for a black coffee on this occasion. Off to the office for the day as planned. On returning to the hotel after a day in the office, I find both my dirty coffee cup from the previous night, as well as a glass half full of water left from the night before, still sitting by the bed. Checked the fridge and sure enough I had 2 nice new unopened containers of milk, but lo and behold, sitting there staring happily at me were the same two containers from the previous day still open, 1 empty and 1 half full. I mean seriously, what is going on with this hotel? You then have to wonder also if housekeeping had even entered the room. I guess they had on this occasion as my coffee sachets had been replenished. NOT GOOD ENOUGH HI! I will now be seriously considering my next trip to Melbourne as to whether I actually want to stay here again, or whether I should just take my business to the other group who I also have status with, and who never fails to greet me as a valued member, along with complimentary upgrade, breakfast and executive club access. Time to get your act together HI, or you will lose what I would like to think is a valuable customer!!! 20 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Our stay The Holiday Inn on Flinders is well positioned close to Southern Cross Station. It is only a small walk to the tram stops. The room was very clean and the staff, very helpful and engaging I found the breakfast each morning the most disappointing in that the staff were too few and that the breakfast plates were not cleared and mounted up on the table. The food in the hot food bar was long in the tooth or selections empty by the time we ate at 9am. It took some time thereafter for staff to notice and longer to act once informed. Notably the restaurant was still full at this time and we ate in the adjoining area. The breakfast was not bad by any means, but tainted an otherwise very enjoyable stay. Kids stay and dine free is a wonderful bonus, as was the pool !! Thank you. 18 January 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great location & quiet Hotel has a terrific location on the corner of Spencer & Flinders Lane. About 5 minutes walk to Southern Cross Train & Bus station. Tram stop right outside hotel at intersection of Spencer & Flinders Street. Close to shopping on Bourke St. & Collins St. (Which has a ton of shopping if you've never been to Melbourne before.) Plenty of places to eat at train station and in the shopping districts, some of them close early, 5-6pm and only open after 8 am, except for Hungry Jacks! Even the Starbucks doesn't open until 8 am. Room is very quiet, even though we were on 2nd floor facing Spencer St. Could not hear traffic almost at all. Room & bathroom good size, with tea pot and fridge, which is stocked with full cream milk for coffee/tea. Overall cleanliness of room and hotel in general was not very good, as others have mentioned. They definitely do not vacuum every day, even the common areas. And the carpet shows it. Had to get shower curtain changed during a 10 night stay as you could smell the mildew emanating off of it with the shower on. The new curtain started to smell to after about 3 nights. Otherwise, service and breakfast is good. Expensive, but Melbourne is expensive everywhere. We were able to get a discount on the breakfast, maybe because of status? Also, hotel was full during Christmas/New Year holiday, but it remained quiet during stay. 15 January 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great bed not as clean as I thought The bed was lovely with a choice of pillows, however when I checked into the room their were some fingernail clippings in the basin that hadnt been cleaned. One night I came back after a long day at work and my room hadn't been serviced at all. The girl at the desk did what she could, bless her however there was no apology from management. When I mentioned it to the manager he questioned me as to whether I had my ' do not disturb' sign up which I had not. I would have thought they would have been more apologetic. After all it is still the holiday inn and NOT the Bates Motel 07 January 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One of the finest Holiday Inns in the world I love every visit to this Hotel it is warm and welcoming its friendly and yet has an air of style and effecient grace. When you stay at this Hotel you get a real sense that all the staff are happy to be there, to assist and help you and really enjoy their jobs. Alastair is a fine example of a true IHG Ambassador for this hotel, his passion and willingness to making your stay perfect, is superb. The rooms are lovely, Possibly not every room is marvelous but if you really dont like a room go down and discuss it it with one of the Polite guys on the front desk and ask to change. Simple really its a service and if your not happy give them the opportunity to fix it and dont just tolerate and jump on a site like this and complain. The rooms have block out curtains so a good nights sleep is almost guaranteed, though if you are sensitive to mild noise and vibration then ensure you ask for a room away from the Tram side of the hotel. The airco is great and keeps the room ambient, and the room service is Fabulous. Delivering a vast range of treats and defeats you'll love them all. Breakfast can also be room service or in the restaurant downstairs has a very good buffet. They also have a chef and egg station so you can be assured of eggs cooked just the way you like them. Within easy walking distance to the hotel are many attractions, like the CBD central shopping the Casino and Flinders street station and Federation square. The guys at the desk can help and assist with all your bookings, maps and advice on things to do. All in All I love the staff here and there infectious behaviour makes me love their Hotel. As a IHG Platinum Elite Ambassador, I recommend this Hotel Highly. 31 December 2013
