Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Welcome Back On arrival there was a friendly greeting from Paolo, who quickly went about registering. We went to our room and commenced our relaxation. There was Happy Hour so we took advantage of that, followed by a great meal. The bar staff and food waiters were excellent. The men urinal behind the front desk needs some attention as discussed with staff. Looking forward to our next visit. 29 April 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Business & Pleasure in The Heart of Melbourne I have stayed at this hotel for both business and for personal vacations to Melbourne. From a business standpoint it is in an excellent location on the edge of the Melbourne CBD and the new Docklands development, with easy access to the freeway to the airport. For exploring Melbourne for pleasure it offers a whole heap more. It sits on the edge of the tram system with access to both North/South and East/West tram routes. So whether you want to explore St. Kilda, Toorak Road, Chapel Street, Port Melbourne, or Bridge Road factory label outlets etc. they are all just a tram ride away - and it's so easy with the Melbourne MyKi travel card. The MCG is a short 20 minute walk as is the heart of Docklands. The Melbourne Exhibition Centre and attached Duty Free Outlets are only 10 minutes walk. Southbank and The Crown Casino complex are only a five minute walk. I stay about 60-70 nights a year in IHG hotels in the various chains they own. This is probably not the most luxurious of them, but the staff are definitely the most friendly and welcoming of any that I've stayed in in Australia, Asia, the US and Europe. My guess is that this is because it is not a very large hotel. So whether for business purposes or as a base to explore Melbourne, I would highly recommend this hotel. 24 April 2014

Paul assisted me in organising my time with day trips in the area. The restaurant food was fine, with breakfast a particular highlight due to the attention to detail provided by the chefs and waitresses. Niki on reception was cheerful and obliging, indeed I thought the staff generally were a credit to your organisation. 21 April 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good location and friendly We checked in on my birthday and the member of staff recognised this and made an additional fuss of me - a nice touch. Our room was clean and comfortable, though we struggled with the air-con, and the bathroom was fine. The Grand Prix was on when we stayed so the hotel was very busy, and at quite a high cost, but staff were overall efficient and only one panic when the incorrect labels were attached to our cases to be stored for the day. The location is good to be able to walk into town or across the river, as well as to the free city circle tram - recommend by the receptionist. A hotel that we would return to. 17 April 2014

Great location within walking distance to CBD, trams, trains and just down the road from the airport (Spencer Street) city drop off. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Room was OK, sort off? Air conditioning dripped water onto carpet during stay. Staff not very friendly. I found this unusual as most Holiday Inns have great friendly Staff. When I went to tell them about the water on the Tuesday morning the male staff were only interested in speaking to females. So I gave up waiting and didn't bother anymore. It is not my carpet that will rot away. As for coffee at night when we returned to the Hotel. Cannot complain about the service, Yes I can no one looks at you and you are left standing there until at last they decide to grace you with some service. They should at least acknowledge you while you are waiting and within hands reach. I will pay the extra for customer service but this Holiday Inn didn't offer this. What a let down 14 April 2014

However there was one thing that was not up to our expectations. Do not book this hotel should you want a romantic stay. 13 April 2014

The staff go beyond your expectations every time. Nothing is too much trouble, they are there to help with everything at any time. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyable stay. Stayed for 16 days. I found the staff to be without exception very friendly , always helpful and efficient. The food is good and as a long stay visiter I had the option to contact the chef if I wanted something different from the menu. Reception area and restaurant is comfortable. Although I did not use the pool, my room overlooked it And I noticed that it was cleaned every day. The bedrooms , especially the bathroom, are looking a little tired, and my floor was only vacuumed once during my stay. The hotel is situated very near to the Southen Cross railway station which has a pharmacy and supermarket and access to the Metro. I enjoyed my stay there and will stay there again when I am next in Melbourne. 10 February 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good location but early, noisy maintenance work The hotel is well positioned, very close to the Southern Cross Station. Generally, the staff is friendly and the room is quiet. Unfortunately, this is marred by unreasonably early (before 7am) maintenance work on the rooftop which woke us up along with several other rooms. The loud noise did not cease until almost 8am, despite having notified the staff. What's worse, the same thing happened again the next morning, although it was later (~7:30am). 31 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly and competent service. My husband and I enjoyed our stay during the last week of the tennis. We found the staff to be friendly, helpful and competent. The breakfast was the highlight of our stay with a lovely selection of western food in particular the variety of fruits on offer. The lady on the egg station made superb poached eggs and was cheery and chatty all week. The only negative was the bathroom. It was small, tired and in need of upgrading. The price of the room was reasonable considering it was the week of the tennis open. All in all we had a very pleasant stay. 24 January 2014
