Once again a very enjoyable short break at the Holiday Inn Plymouth. Room nice and big, staff friendly and helpful,son forgot to pack his toothbrush and razor but reception sorted this out straight away. Views from the restaurant lovely. Service very good. Such a great selection of breakfast food did not need to eat again until evening meal!

On booking a Delux room with dinner and breakfast we looked forward to views of the Hoe, on arrival we looked out of our 9th floor window to see not the Hoe but a Huge sound stage and all the trappings of a pop concert which lasted the whole of our stay. It would have been nice to have been informed of this event when make our booking. Under normal circumstances the hotel has a great location and gives easy access to Plymouth. We could have saved money by booking standard Room at the back of the hotel if we had known about all the noise at the front.

We stay at hotels on a regular basis and decided to stay at the hotel in our home town, due to an event taking place on The Hoe.
To start with, there were builders everywhere down our corridor (room 13). Whilst I appreciate that there is no good time to carry out renovations, 8.30am in the morning for drilling is a bit early for some leisure break guests. 10am would be ideal, as well as advance notification that the hotel was being renovated on the same corridor as our room.
On the Wednesday evening we ordered some Champagne in the penthouse level bar. The young girl that served us brought over the ice bucket and bottle and just left it on the table and walked off. It is the first time in a 4 star hotel that the wine or Champagne was left to be opened by the guest!
The second bottle was served by a male member of staff who did pour the drink and was as expected for a 4 star hotel.
Whilst seated in the bar, we did hear the same young lady greet other guests at the bar with 'what do you want?'. It was said in a polite manner, but not the words you expect to hear in a 4 star hotel.
I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel anymore now that we've stayed at it. Shame really as Julian & May are fantastic, sadly let down by the rooms and a member of the bar staff.
On checking out the next morning, we were not asked the usual, 'how was everything with your stay'. I guess the reception staff had already been grilled by other guests about the noise from the builders!

Cold shower in morning then in evening staff entering room because fire alarm has been triggered by steam from hot shower even though bathroom door is closed, when i complain i get no further than 3 receptionists who close ranks and tell me the hotel has every right to barge into any room they choose

Surprisingly high quality hotel. Very efficient service at breakfast - we were given an explanation of the buffet breakfast by a very politer, friendly female member of staff. Food was also of a good range and quality.

My husband's health had not been good and when I rang to see if we could leave a suitcase, as we were arriving by train about 11am. I was told we would receive a early check-in to help us. this was arranged and our upgrade. though a lot of constructing work was going on due to a music festival on the Hoe, this did not spoil our stay and we came home having had a lovely break and a big thank you to your staff for their care.
