Who's Idea was it to book Christmas parties the night Marathon runners were staying at your hotel???

As you can imagine the hotel was very busy given the time of year, there were two large Christmas parties in the hotel, and I believe a contingent of runners in readiness for some local event. The busy feel to the hotel didn't detract from it though, it was comfortable, the staff were great, attentive and helpful. The food was good, breakfast was exceptional, and the leisure facilities were acceptable, on par with most hotel facilities.
Our disappointment really only relates to the room itself, when booking online we were given the option of a double room or an executive room for two, the executive room was a £40 hike in cost, but it was our first hotel stay without the kids for 17 years so we splashed out on the upgrade to executive status. It was that move that was the problem, on arrival we found that we had been allocated an "Executive Twin" not a double room, which in itself was annoying, especially since we were told we didn't specify a double executive and apparently everyone else had, we certainly don't recall there being an option to do so, but maybe it was our mistake so nothing else we could do. Still we had the "Executive" room to look forward to, didn't we? Not really, the room was very small, minimal room around the beds, a tiny on suite bathroom with absolutely no room to move in it and no sitting area unless you consider the beds a sitting area. The room did have a larger than usual TV (too large for the size of the room to be honest), a fridge (empty) and two dressing gowns, which all went to class the room as "Executive". Fortunately we were only staying the one night, had we been staying longer I'd have walked out, be warned, make sure you get the room you want when staying here, and clarify exactly what you will be getting if you upgrade to "Executive". That said the stay, outside the room, was excellent, as mentioned the facilities were good, the lounge area and bar were comfortable and had a great atmosphere, possibly something to do with the Christmas festivities ongoing in the hotel, and our 90 mins spent in the spa area was a wonderful time of relaxation and escape from a hectic day of shopping.
All in all, good hotel, I'm sure it has some good rooms but check and specify exactly what you are looking for, enjoy the pool, spa and gym and the views over Portsmouth and Southsea harbour.
