Stayed in this hotel few times while working away from home. All rooms are very clean, staff is excellent and service is good everywhere you go- bar, restaurant, health club, housekeeping.
There is very warm homely atmosphere in this hotel. I would definitely stay there again.

Firstly I will have to admit that I dont usually stay here due to an issue I had many years ago, where - despite having a guarenteed booking and being platinum status - they bumped my booking due to arriving late and sent me to an appalling hotel in the middle of Reading. The location of hotel also makes it difficult to get to Bracknell at peak times due to the M4.
The hotel seems to have had a refurbishment recently and the staff are of usual 'Holiday Inn' standard, as are the rooms and facilities and a positive glut of sockets by the desk - no need to get my 6 way power strip out of my suitcase to charge my Phone/Tablet/Laptop here!
The breakfast was again of a good standard and Soya milk was available #and a sign saying to ask for it#.
The room rate is usually about half of similar brand hotels in the area and surprisingly included Breakfast and an hour of Wifi.
To sum up, a nice hotel, excellent value and if the location works for you there is no reason why it wouldnt be a regular choice.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MikeKent Excellent Stay, Excellent Service
I have stayed at Holiday Inn and other IHG properties all over the world and I have to say in terms if Customer Service this hotel comes up near the very top.
The staff at this hotel were fantastic and every single member of the team had a can do attitude and did their very best to make the stay as enjoyable as possible for my family and I.
Yes the hotel is slightly dated and could possibly do with a refurbishment as others have commented but that said the rooms are nice, comfortable and the facilities the hotel has are great. I think the hotel has character and you get a good nights sleep.
The hotel is set in large plot of land and has very good parking (which is free), The hotel is near some roads but this is not a problem as once inside the room everything is lovely and quite allowing for a good nice sleep.
The shower was good, lots of hot water and pressure, nothing worse than a rubbish shower in the morning.
The breakfast was very nice, one of the best HI breakfasts I've had plenty of choice, all hot and fresh. The staff in the morning were very pleasant and interacted with my little boy giving him stickers to keep him entertained.
The bar was welcoming and the staff friendly and knowledgable about the range of drinks available all at a reasonable price for a hotel.
I would like to list all the staff that provided me with outstanding service but I can't remember all their names as it really was EVERY member of staff from the house keeping staff, bar and restaurant staff, reception, pool staff all the way to the General Manager.
This hotel recognised my platinum status and I was given an upgrade to an executive room, and I thought it was really nice when the house keeping staff provided us with a couple of extra chocolate bars (as 3 of us in room) and some more water, this small gesture makes such a huge difference to how a stay is enjoyed and stops the arguments as to who gets the mars bar.
Great location if you want to go shopping in reading, close to the motor way. If your in the area of fancy a nice break then this hotel is must.
I very much look forward to visiting this hotel again and would not hesitate to recommend to others.
I could say so much more about how good this hotel is but I think you need to visit and experience it for yourself!

Had a lovely stay. Staff were helpful, breakfast was delicious, pool was enjoyable/ The only down side was why do we have to pay for wifi...and it's expensive?

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Andywalk good hotel but no points for coperate guests
having a good time at hotel only issue is the priority club point system as they say we don't qualify as our company pays which would probably cover most guests and as they can't even be bothered to respond to my querey i will get my company to put me else where. the staff at the hotel are excellent and have made the stay more enjoyable.

Functional but a bit tired, needs a refurb.
Not a pretty Holiday Inn like some I've stayed in, older style, long corridors, a bit worn and in need of renovation.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Northerners Lovely room, top notch service.
We booked a larger room as an old aunt was travelling with us and she didn't want a single room on her own. I asked for the room to be near to reception and for an aid (step stool#, to help my aunt in and out of the shower.
On arrival, I was told that as Priority Club members, we had been upgraded to an executive room, which had disabled facilities. We were really 'chuffed', with this.
The staff were only too happy to help with any query #including the swimming pool staff# and I got the feeling that nothing was a problem to them.
Couldn't fault the breakfast, which was plentiful and had a large variety.
This was our third stay at Holiday Inn, Reading South and it won't be our last.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BWev Conference and stay at Reading Holiday Inn
Although booked by a company for me to run a 3 week training course, my personal feelings are that this is an excellent venue with first class facilities for conferences, excellent food and kept in a clean and orderly manner. . The staff are all very helpfull and provide thier services in a positive, friendly way.
Just some small gripes, the baths towels are too small and the rooms are slightly dated.
Have stayed at the hotel a number of times before and look forward to the next visit.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by AnneClare Ideal for our trip
This was the ideal place to stay the night before Reading Half Marathon. The location was perfect - only about 10 minutes' walk from the Madjeski stadium, which meant there was no trouble leaving when we were finished (any closer and the roads would still have been closed).
The hotel was well prepared for the event, with lots of runners staying that night. It was a nice touch to have free tea and coffee available to take away for our journey by the front door.
As a Priority Rewards customer, I didn't know I was able to have a free extended check-out so I was very pleased to be offered it by the lady who checked us in. As the weather was so bad, it was great to be able to come back to the hotel and shower before setting off home.
I will re-book for the same event next year.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Oldie Excellent value and very helpful staff
Used the Reading Half Marathon room tariff. Excellent value for money, and ideal position for that event.
Clean and quiet room, good overall facilities (for my taste bed was too hard, but otherwise a perfectly good room).
A good variety of food available, which is good because there are not many alternatives within walking distance. Some of it a little pricey but the bar menu was ok and of good quality. The kids deal in the main restaurant was a good idea and helped keep the cost down,
Staff were very friendly and helpful with all needs.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Runners Reading half marathon
I spend nearly 100 nights a year in the ihg group of hotels and on some occasions because myself and a friend are running half of full marathons and for the first time the hotel took on board the need of the runners many who selflessly run for charities, late check out was not an issue and coffee was on supply in reception as runners came back with spectators. An excellent experience. I have run the London marathon the last two years and stayed at the ic park lane and found that they do not make any allowances for the runners so much so I have moved my stay to the cp st James this year. As a valued customer the flagship hotel should take a leaf out of readings example and look to support the runners and their customers. Well done to all at reading south

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by David12 A good room - except!
The room was well furnished , the bed was comfortable and the food was good. However, as a wheelchair accessible room the bathroom had a distinct disadvantage for one who is unable to climb into a bath! Similar rooms at Holiday Inn Express have wet rooms thus enabling the disabled person to shower, either standing or seated, without having to climb into a bath. The existing arrangements here are not disabled friendly!

I must say check in facilities has been one of the best and the free glass of wine for priority members at check in was a good touch.
I did have issues with the heating not being warm enough. This was acknowledged and an electric heater was provided.
Whist I has not booked breakfeast as I tend to eat a low fat diet although haddock was not on the menu they ensured I got a piece of smoked a haddock. Well done
Check out was awesome as the yanks would say and the receptionist who checked me out wanted to know an a scale of one to ten how my stay was. I have an 8 for the caring attitude for the great attitude all staff had whilst staying there. Plus for those who like coffee to go this was on tap FOC.
Yes I would stay there again as long as the room was up to temperature.
Great keep it up

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Laffer Needs overhaul, cold room to boot!
Location - good for Reading.
Food - had room service 3 times on varying stays, each time has been disappointing.
All the rooms I have been in badly need modernisation.
During recent cold snap, got to hotel late (around (9:20pm) got to room to find it literally freezing. Put the air con on hot but it cut out less than an hour later (and they hardly blow out any air in anyway). No other heating system in the room. Complained to front desk and they arranged for an electric/oil radiator type heater - room was warm enough by the time I went to bed.
Don't think I will be returning to this Holiday Inn any time soon.
On another general note, internet should be free - I find it disgusting that most Holiday Inns I visit are charging £16 for one night access.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Jon1 Friendly and Willing Staff
All the staff we dealt with - Front Desk, Restaurant and Room Staff - were all very friendly and tried hard but the hotel bedrooms really do need some urgent attention. The Restaurant Food was acceptable but greater attention is needed to ensure that the main course is not presented to the guests before their starters!

Room smelt damp. Poor bed, on wheels so moved around when you turned at night causing it to move away from the wall and the pillow would fall down behind the bed. Location was for me okay. No lift, not informed of this upon arrival although given a first floor room. I had my 80-year-old mother with me. No help offered with my mother's suitcase (this did bother me and no I shouldn't have to ask). Breakfast was excellent. All in all an average experience.

Enjoyed a good stay at Holiday Inn- purpose was to relax and recharge batteries .Check in was nothing special no mention of priority club or polite banter. Checking out staff member was excellent much more pleasant.
2 rooms for our family were as expected however, we did feel that 1 room smelt of smoke which shouldn't be the case in no smoking rooms.
Restaurant staff were very attentive and efficient. Felt the food wasn't as good as other stays here, or other holiday inns. We describe the food as average at the very least this time. Poor cooking of steaks and felt cold buffet breakfast looked tired.
Swimming pool was warm as was the jacuzzi.
All in all, satisfied what we required.

I recently traveled alone for a football match and was put in a downstairs room away to the furthest part of the hotel from the reception, i felt as if i was being singled out as a football thug there to cause trouble which is not, i traveled down from scotland and was away first thing, i wish i just got the overnight train home, my room was cold and the shower had no hot water

Facilities were plush and well thought out. The food was very good quality and offered lots of choice. The room was very comfortable and offered all possible extras and even luxuries. I was sad not to be able to give 5 stars as the hotel and room deserved that, if it had not been let down by a rogue staff member in amongst others who were faultless. Sad to come away with this feeling when so much was done to make it perfect by so many.
