Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Rolls Royce of Holiday Inns Great check in, great staff and excellent food, the room was lovely with a beautiful bathroom and the hotel is truly run like a well oiled engine, the management are always on hand to tend to your needs and it is very evident that the management lead by example. The restaurant was a lovely experience with divine food even the chef came out to talk with us about the food which al added to a great experience a great hotel to stay at. May 25, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent food but extremely uncomfortable bed We have now been to two different properties and have been extremely pleased with property, the service, the quality of meals and the rooms with one exception, the beds. In both properties the beds were extremely hard. When booking this property we asked for an up-grade in the hope that we would have a more comfortable sleeping experience but were very disappointed, so much so that we cut short our visit. It is such a shame as everything else was of such an excellent standard. May 23, 2015

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by A night best forgotten The grounds of this hotel are very nice. However, the 'long driveway' up to the hotel is a little misleading - it is effectively a short road above some very busy city roads so Sheffield's noisy city centre roads are all around the hotel. The sound of motorcycles, noisy cars and police sirens are heard regularly throughout the evening. I was embarrassed at check-in when there some confusion about parking charges. That was not a good start. The room was awful - very, very old and tired and extremely hot. The windows only opened a few inches so I couldn't cool the room down sufficiently. I found a desk fan which I had on maximum all night but that didn't help much either. There is no air-con in the rooms. The gym is a large room with a reasonable number of machines. It's located in a basement room and you have to walk through what is effectively a pub to get to it. It's a bit unnerving that so many doors are locked and you have to get a second key for the gym. The gym room is a little unwelcoming with bars across the windows. Pipework, ducting and cobwebs are strewn across the ceiling. No towels are provided in the gym so remember to take one from your bedroom. Room service was a mediocre affair. The quality of the food was average. But it got worse. From around 9.00pm I noticed a lot of noise outside my room (which was front-facing and close to the hotel entrance). I was trying to get to sleep having been up since 4.00am that day. The noise worsened into drunken shouting, laughing and general mayhem as the night progressed. When I looked outside I saw dozens of drunken revellers making a lot of noise. After midnight I was still unable to get any sleep so I called for the duty manager who told me that the drunken revellers are leaving in taxis so it should be easier to sleep soon. I was also told that events were planned for the rest of the week. I was booked into this hotel for the whole week so I decided to check out in the morning and find another hotel where I could actually get some sleep. Calm was restored at around 1.00am. I got what little sleep I could and checked out in the morning. Overall, this hotel failed in the most basic element of providing a decent night's sleep. May 15, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel with Atmosphere This hotel remains one of my favourites in the IHG group because of its history and design. All the rooms that I have stayed in are spacious and each one has had a different layout. The staff are always helpful and cheerful. Service is always very good. Shame about the nearby road being a regular haunt for emergency ambulances and their sirens late at night, but theres nothing that can be done about that! May 7, 2015
