Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Suprisingly Good I booked this hotel because it was a good price and close to the city centre, yet had good transport links. It took a bit of effort to find, I would recommend to ignore the sat nav and follow the brown road signs! The hotel itself was so much better than standard holiday inn hotels. It is characteristic, relaxing and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and were happy and proud to work there. The best I have ever experienced and I have stayed in 100 hotels. Because of the transport links the hotel was close to the main roads, so there was quite a bit of traffic noise. Usually I would be really annoyed by this, but the hotel put me in such a good mood, I didn't really mind. Felt it was a worthwhile sacrifice/compromise. 27 February 2015

The grandeur of the hotel is so impressive, but the staff manage to combine this with a professional but relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. Anyone staying here will feel that they have had an amazing experience. 26 February 2015

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Hotel but building works let it down The hotel was undergoing a major refurb, which I was not aware of. This did not directly effect my stay, however, considering that the room I stayed looked to have just been refurbished, the non closure of the window greatly let it down. The noise all night long from the very busy road outside meant that I had a very disturbed nights sleep. On a positive note, the staff are very good, always smiling, courteous and willing to take that extra yard to ensure everything is done to the highest level they can when dealing with building works. 23 February 2015

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by in the middle of a renovation Portions of the hotel were undergoing renovation during my stay. I was given a room right in the middle of the current renovations, so it was necessary to clamber over drop clothes, listen to workmen scraping walls and talking right outside my room, etc. Not at all conducive to a pleasant, relaxing stay. 14 February 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient location, excellent staff I've stayed at this hotel quite often and so far it has never disappointed. The staff provide exceptional customer service in my experience, and seem to work well as a team. I love the Victorian era atmosphere and the fact that each room is decorated differently, so it doesn't have that "samey", corporate atmosphere. It's in a nice spot on the edge of central Sheffield, an easy walk or less than £5 taxi ride into the centre - e.g. Leopold Square where there are lots of eating places. It's a 10 to 15 minute easy walk from the train station, along the ring road to Park Square (which is a roundabout!), where the hotel sign appears; or about £4 by taxi. The breakfast. is superb. 14 February 2015
