Always a worry when you book a hotel for family worrying that they think it's value for money and enjoyable but my did on both counts, thank you HI. A waste of money booking the superior room as you will be located under the resturant and will hear creaking all night from people walking back and forth! Very disappointing service from the front desk to the breakfast staff. i really wouldnt have thought this hotel was a 4* seemed like a poor 3* 13 June 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another Great Experience This was my fourth stay at this excellent hotel; each time has included a weekend. Although the hotel has been well occupied, my room has been peaceful and quiet; this has been a real joy. I have always requested for a room facing on to the Airport as there is always something to watch; however, the sound-proofing is superb. The view from the 1935 Rooftop Restaurant is just stunning. The Restaurant Staff are polite, welcoming, and attentive; on two nights I had guests to entertain to Dinner. As on all my previous stays, I have found the quality and presentation fully up to standard and all my guests were full of praise and were intent on visiting the Restaurant again. My principal guest on the Saturday night arrived in a wheelchair; nothing was too much trouble for the Restaurant Staff; and, because of the 'scalloped' design of the chairs, he was able to easily slide on to the chair, and hence felt immediately part of the group for the evening. When visiting Southend again, I would not think of staying anywhere else. As on my departure, as for my arrival, your Reception Stall are first class and combine courtesy with helpfulness. Congratulations to the Hotel Manager, he maintains an excellent Team Spirit. Well Done. 12 June 2014

The food was very good too backed up by very helpful staff from point of arrival to departure... An admin error between booking a travel cot was trouble free rectified within minutes... amazing service.... 12 June 2014

Staff were very cheerful and helpful. Breakfast was an extensive buffet of very good quality. Overall, a good hotel, with excellent service, providing very good value for money. 06 June 2014

Nothing is too much trouble for them, the hotel as usual was very clean the bed comfortable and you wouldn't know that you were beside an airport as you couldn't hear anything. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First Class Stay Only stayed one night at this hotel following a wedding. The service was excellent from start to finish. Check in was smooth & easy, our executive double room was fantastic, spotlessly clean, with a lovely comfortable bed and was overlooking the runway at Southend Airport. Breakfast next morning couldn't be faulted, the staff were so nice & polite and the choice of food was brilliant. We enjoyed a hearty full english breakfast before checking out. If I had one complaint it would be there were no vegetarian sausages offered at breakfast, which didn't affect me but did affect my partner. All in all a great hotel and will definitely stay there again. Thanks to everyone for making our short stay so enjoyable. 05 June 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Mixed Feelings Hotel very nice, clean and modern. The bar and restaurant reasonable priced and good quality. We stayed at this hotel for my sisters wedding in Leigh on Sea so had booked a few rooms plus parking. The down side of the hotel was the parking system. This was a complete fiasco and not explained properly on checking in. The obtaining of tickets and the validation requirement so that you could come and go was a joke! In fact, I could not get my car out of the car park which resulted in being late for an appointment with the bride the morning of the wedding. Security were rude and on returning to reception the receptionist (Yoshi?) was rude and not interested in helping us with the situation. As I had already paid £5 per night to stay in the car park I was told I had to pay another £5 to get out! Because of the poor customer service and manner in which we were spoken to we wont be staying there again! 04 June 2014

I wasn't expecting much for the money but was pleasantly surprised. Room very nice and comfortable and smart bathroom. The views from the 5th floor bar were amazing through huge windows. Bar prices reasonable too. i would love to go back to this hotel. 03 June 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent hotel close to the airport An excellent hotel with 5 minutes walking distance to the Southend airport. Very friendly staff and clean, comfortable, size rooms. Very tasty breakfast with the choice of both cold plates and typical, warm, English breakfast. The only minus is a distance to London (around 50 minutes by train), but trains departing every 30 minutes. from early morning till late midnight. 22 May 2014

The restaurant was really good, fantastic staff and very good food and decent food and wine selection. Good views, not a plane spotter but as flying the next day the view of planes as we ate seemed to extend the break, a constant holiday feeling. Reception staff were also really helpful, most pleasant and professional. A Platinum Elite member so a regular IHG customer and this hotel represents the group very well. 20 May 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Handy for work and Airport...but no room upgrade this time:-D The Aircon and restaurant service issues seem to have improved since my stays here in 2013. It's a shame the Sky Sports TV package has been revoked as a number of non-residents were willing to make an evening of bar food and drinks in the 1935 5th floor location and sadly that custom has gone and the atmosphere can be lacking when the restaurant is quiet. It certainly feels better when it is busy with corporate clients. Hence the atmosphere is a pro and a con:-D The staff still make up for the cons with good entertainment value 12 May 2014

I was informed that as a gold card holder I would be getting a free room upgrade to an Executive room, this turned out not to be the case. As I was staying only one night it was no big deal but if it were a longer stay it would have been another matter. After paying approximately £10.50 per head for breakfast I was surprised to have been informed that if I wanted a "cup" of coffee from one of the machines there would be an extra charge, but not if I had a "pot" of coffee. Please put a stop to this nonsense. The breakfast buffet unfortunately was cold which is a real shame because it looked as if it had been cooked perfectly. The apparatus used in keeping the food warm is obviously not working properly. 02 May 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed Dinner was very good with adequate staffing. Breakfast was OK it would be helpful if more staff were available to clear tables of cereal bowls. I saw an elderly couple really struggling on their table, they had to get up, then put their used plates on the next table. I know this sounds extreme but they were really old and even getting up was difficult for them. I only saw fried eggs on the hot plate there was no one to ask what other choice there was. I think a lot could be learnt from the HI Cambridge as we were blown away with their breakfast offering and attentive breakfast service. The room was very nice and the bed was really cozy. I felt sorry for the receptionist as to the amount of information they had to impart to a new guest.! Whilst this is OK it would be far easier to tell the guests the important points and put the rest within the key card folder or in the room. I did not like the £5 Parking charge and think this should be free. 29 April 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Facility - not so useful staff Stayed here with work. The facility is amazing, good views from the rooms, and just all round good hotel. HOWEVER...... As a business account holder, I checked in, had to ask if I was entitled to free drink on arrival due to gold status, and was advised yes and that room is all pre-paid for. All my other trips to ihg hotels have resulted in the room being left open for food and drink charges or asking if I'd like it left open.... No sign of either here.. I only found this out however when I went to order food at the bar and was told it was not possible as the room didn't have a card against it?? What's the point of having a business card you can charge these too if you can't can't them too? I was pretty quickly advised that only reception can sort it and it wasn't a bar issue. I paid on my normal card and just got my dinner as I was hungry. If I'm honest the staff seemed to care more about the customers in suits and we're incredibly rude. I enquirer on reception upon check on whether this was normal practice to shut the room charge facility off when someone checks in and was advised that I should've been asked, and further more whether it was the Spanish looking one who had served me at the bar?? What sort of question is that. I would recommend if the staff were sorted out in service. 23 April 2014
