Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday Inn,Washington,Tyne and Wear We stayed for one night as our son was taking part in the Great North Run.Very clean and comfortable hotel with friendly staff.Pillows were too firm and flat. The one disappointment was on our return we found out that the Wi-Fi was free to IHG rewards members The staff had failed to tell us this when we queried the cost of switching on in our room ( as our grandson had already done so).We panicked and went straight down to reception where they told us the price and we asked them to cancel.There was NO mention of the offer to IHG members! Very disappointing. 10 September 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not hitting the mark Had issue with room booked, over what had been given. After checking in at 7pm, then spent 30 minutes 'discussing' with receptionist over not getting thew room i had booked. The issue was not resolved, i cancelled my room and stayed elsewhere. I left message for manager to call me, on his return. After two days i ended up phoning to speak to manager as i had not had a call. We arranged a meeting and discussed issue face to face, it was left that he would investigate and come back to me. I am still waiting some 14 days later to an outcome. Not good... I am a Platinum member, and this is not the treatment at other hotels... 02 September 2014

Nothing was too much trouble and she was sorted out our minor problems. I am sorry I did not get her name but thank you 01 September 2014

I wouldn't have ever looked in the desk draw! I enjoying staying at the holiday in as it has always been peaceful. 01 September 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A first class hotel When I first booked the hotel, I wondered whether it would be easy to find, having had difficulty one year with a hotel further north. To my delight, it couldn't have been easier ; off at junction 64 of the A1M and it was right in front of me. Couldn't have been better.and with a good car park. The hotel itself was light and airy and the ambience and decor superb. The staff were friendly and were on the ball at all times. The food was excellent and the drinks were reasonably priced. We shall definitely stay here again when travelling north. Dr. P 26 August 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Washington - Holiday Inn I wouldnt recommend this hotel to any friends or family who are looking for a quality stay with value for money. I felt let down by the brand having stayed in many different sites around the world, the apearance of the hotel is very aged / dated from the exterior and it doesnt change much once inside. The staff are polite but didnt provide me with a warm welcome as usually experienced. The hotel seemed very clean and tidy, it is desperate for an overhaul and upgrade. 19 August 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Next to A1 Very easy to find and convenient for A1. You can hear the A1 in the room. Parking is easy right in front of hotel. It's a one night stop of purely for convenience of location and that's it. There was no welcome. Staff at reception not friendly but this is more of a business hotel and that impersonal way of dealing with guests is acceptable in the business world. My Mother is elderly and not very mobile but just about managed the steps from foyer to corridor. There is a platform lift which looks like it's not been used or anyone knows how to use it. No-one from reception offered to help. The rooms are ok but in need of updating. The doors in the bathrooms are badly eaten away at the bottom and smell damp. Breakfast was nice and the staff lovely. However I have two large bruises on my arm from when a waitress opened the kitchen door knocking my arm. The staff there were lovely but no mention of an accident book but the chef said he would report the door. Plus is that Toby Carvery is two minutes walk and catering staff very nice. 19 August 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic hotel and very friendly staff Over the past year, we have stayed at the Holiday Inn in Washington several times. We have never had to want for anything. Nothing has been too much trouble for any of the staff on duty. We fly up from Southampton to visit my daughter and her family. On many occasions, we have brought up great-granddad who is 94 this year. We always book an accessible room which is wonderful. Every convenience has been thought of for elderly/disabled people. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom is well designed. Extra pillows are delivered to the room very swiftly. Tea/coffee making facilities are much appreciated and there has never been a problem asking for more supplies. Breakfast is very good. A vast variety - even cooked food made to order - e.g. poached eggs. All the restaurant staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Great Grandad loves the hotel and feels very comfortable and well looked after. Thank you - we will be back! 17 August 2014

Also, there was a safe to keep money and passport safe. Difficulties, such as non-working air-conditioning, were speedily resolved. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. 06 August 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Restful sleep nights sleep but the food service was very poor I stay in a lot of Holiday Inn hotels and this was the worst experience I've had. The evening meal was ok but when the bill came they'd added a discretionary 10% to the bill with no way of removing it on the bill save for asking the waiter to do so. AND they added a gratuity line as well. Some poor unsuspecting traveller could find themselves paying double the tip they intended. I've never seen this in any other holiday Inn 03 August 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Attentive Staff, but too noisy and poor breakfast. As on previous visits the staff were very attentive and the general facilities were of a high order. Disappointed with the breakfast on my first morning, didn't have breakfast the following day. A number of choices for breakfast were close to the hotel which were of better value and quality. One drawback was the noise of the motorway during the night combined with the inability to completely darken the room. Must ask for a room that is on the other side of the building as can't remember the noise problems during previous visits. The bar staff were very attentive especially Ruth who made several valid recommendations. Overall a very reasonable stay despite the above negative points. 01 August 2014

Comfortably appointed room, though in this case a little noisy because of the motorway nearby.Very tasty food and warm, friendly staff in the restaurant area.
