The hotel fabric is long overdue a refurbishment, most in the Holiday Inn Express part of the group are better than even the Executive Rooms. The first room smelt of smoke and was basic, the receptionist changed our room without fuss and the second room was better but grouting in the bathroom was cracked in several places, shower hose cracked and generally tired, yet some features had obviously been updated.
The main issue happened about 30 mins after check in, when another couple walked into the room, having checked in and been given the same room. When I rang reception the receptionist gave the impression that I was talking rubbish and unbelieving that it had even happened. The other couple were given a replacement room, but the receptionist was apparently off with them too. When we went to dinner I raised with the duty manager, who was apologetic and offered a complementary breakfast which was a reasonable recompense.
The staff in the restaurant were excellent, friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The main course was good but the Naan Bread and popadoms were pre-manufactured and poor quality compared to the rest of the meal which was excellent.
Offered bonus points at checkin, still waiting for them to be credited.

Although the hotels structure and decor was very dated, the room, staff and service was excellent.
The room was good value for money offering a king sized bed for the a price, you would usually expect to pay for a double room.
The food (both breakfast and evening meal) was far superior to other business style hotels in the area.
I would definately stay here again and would definately recommend it to anyone visiting Washington on business.
