Fast, efficient and courteous check-in.
Very nice and clean room. Good assortment of pillows. Quiet with good climate control.
Good value, especially considering the location.

I was shocked when i arrived at the restaurant for the morning buffet breakfast. I was on the table getting my food and the cook with the long dirty dreadlocks was standing behind be apparently in a hurry to put the scrambled eggs he just brought on the desk. When i asked him about the bacon and sausage on the table, he gave me a very nasty look at rude answer because i was on his way. he seamed like he did not even care about the customer trying to get answers.
As for the other wait, they were just standing at the desk looking like they will not talk to any guest who does not look like hispanic. I was surprised because this is a hotel in Washington, DC in America;s capital and not a hotel in Mexico or Columbia.
Inside the room, the carpets were dirty and horrible.
I was treated with respect by the receptionist on the front desk.

Stayed here because it was about a 15 minute walk from our regional office in DC. A bit tired in places, but also with some charm. Not a bad Holiday Inn

We have stayed here for more than two weeks, both for business and leisure. If you would like to visit the National Mall more often and by walking, it might be better to choose the same-brand hotel in the south.
First of all, the staff in this hotel are excellent, especially the housekeepers and the doormen. The main issue was the indoor air quality, which was poor because of the heavy cooking smell from restaurant kitchens during dining hours. The problem was not solved even when we changed rooms. Other small things were uncomfortable quilts and unhealthy food provided from the on-site restaurant.
If you would mind noise from the street, please ask for rooms facing the other side. If you would like to get up late in the morning, you have to bear the noise from other travelers and housekeeping service.
Above all, it was an average staying experience for us, though the staff were really helpful.

This HI is in a great, convenient location with many attractions within reasonable walking distance, the Metro a modest walk distance, nearby cafes and restaurants and a Whole Foods market. The rooms are a good size and well equipped with a comfortable bed: the buffet breakfast has lots of great choices and is good value.
My only concern was the road noise that interrupted my sleep.
The staff are invariably cheerful, professional and helpful at reception, dining room and housekeeping. I will have this HI on my list for my next DC visit!
