Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Neues, modernes Gebäude Nähe M3, aber... Also erstmal liegt das Hotel nicht im Stadtzentrum von Winchester wie auf der Webseite steht. Vielmehr liegt es 2-3 Kilometer außerhalb der Stadt. Es ist ein neues und modernes Gebäude, die Innenausstattung ist sehr gut. Wir hatten folgendes merkwürdiges Erlebnis mit der Duty Managerin: Für den ersten Tag wurde uns als Platinum-Mitgliedern kostenloses Frühstück angeboten, für den zweiten nicht! Das mussten wir obendrein selbst herausfinden. Die Duty Managerin am 12. August war nicht besonders freundlich. Mein Hinweis, dass die Hil-ton-Hotelkette bereits ab dem Status Gold kostenlos Frühstück anbietet und wir gerade zwei Tage zuvor im Crowne Plaza in Heathrow als IHG Platinum-Mitglieder selbstverständlich kostenloses Frühstück bekamen, beantwortete sie mit "We have to keep the experience our guests have consistent, thus we cannot offer you free breakfast." Ahaaa? Welche Logik steckt dahinter? Crowne Plaza bietet kostenloses Frühstück, am ersten Tag bekommen wir hier kostenloses Frühstück, am zweiten nicht? Wo ist denn das konsistent? Sie hätte gute Kunden leicht und locker zufriedenstellen können, statt dessen versteckte sie sich hinter Vorschriften und beharrte auf ihrer Aussage. Das muss IHG echt noch lernen, ja, das Erlebnis sollte konsistent sein, ist es aber nicht! Bei den guten Marken der Kette (InterConti, Crowne Plaza) wird man hofiert und mit Vorteilen überschüttet, bei den weniger hochwertigen Marken wie Holiday Inn kommt es immer wieder vor, Dinge nicht zu bekommen, die woanders, wohlgemerkt innerhalb derselben Gruppe und Marke, selbstverständlich sind. Aber zurück zum Hotel: Wie gesagt, ein neues, modernes Gebäude mit großem, kostenlosem Parkplatz nicht weit von der Autobahn M3 entfernt, ideal für einen Stopover auf dem Weg nach Southampton zu den Kreuzfahrtschiffen oder Fähren zur Isle of Wight. Winchester-Zentrum ist nicht weit entfernt und diese Stadt mit seiner Kathedrale ist echt sehenswert! 12 September 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Lack of staff Windows don't open in the rooms so there's no "fresh" air at all. Air conditioning is not great. Restaurant was, we were told, "full" every night with no tables available until about 9pm. We sat in the reception watching the practically empty restaurant - it was no where near full (in fact was mostly empty every night with at least 15 free tables) with no big parties arriving later. Can only conclude the staff were not telling the truth or there is a lack of staff to serve/cook. If the latter was the case, why weren't the staff open and honest? 12 September 2013

Please, please would 2 or 3 senior IHG senior managers experience a Premier Inn breakfast and see how it should be done. Our Holiday Inn breakfast started with being served cold (yes, literally) horrible coffee. Only limited fruit was available with cereal and then I searched out someone to ask for fried eggs. As I waited for at least five minutes with the rest of my breakfast going cold, two hard fried eggs were passed to me. The next people were even less fortunate as a long queue developed waiting for bacon etc. It was nearly 9 a.m. and the restaurant was not 'over-busy'. We like to go to Holiday Inns and support a Great British company, but they are not inexpensive and surely high catering standards should be expected. 11 September 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic for families We stayed as a family with three young children, in a room which has two double beds and allows five. It worked perfectly (the children slept across the bed rather than down (if that makes sense). Everyone we met at the hotel was friendly and accommodating. Would recommend to anyone! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Clean and mean. As we didn't use any of the facilities we can only review the room which was clean and comfortable. The tea tray was a bit mean as hardly enough milk to make more than 2 drinks and not a single biscuit. The staff at reception were lovely and there's easy parking although as it's just a room with no extras, we can only give it poor for value for money. 10 September 2013

We were very pleased with a very spacious and well presented room. Staff are absolutely fantastic! Always trying to help and very attentive. Strongly recommend if you need a place to stay in this part of the world. 31 August 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by we had a great stopover on the way to ferry Port We had great difficulty finding anywhere that had a room that would take two adults and three children but the Winchester was able to provide this for a sensible price. The hotel was lovely and very well presented and the staff were really helpful and professional. We had accidentally packed our toothbrushes under all the luggage in our car but the hotel was able to provide a toothbrush and paste to each of us. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the children's meals were free and it was very good. We did not want our noisy kids to disturb the evening of other guests too much but there was a lovely courtyard where we could enjoy a drink and the kids could play without upsetting anyone. We would definitely stay here again. It was only about 40 min drive to ferry port at Portsmouth and much cheaper than staying at a hotel in the port itself. 30 August 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Room The room and general reception areas are very good and well laid out. We booked an executive room for just the one night and it was very well presented. The only issues we found were the price of drinks and the quality of the breakfast. I have travelled with my work a lot and did not enjoy the "buffet" style breakfast. I was not offered a freshly fried egg and the so-called scrambled egg was inedible. To be fair I try not to stay at establishments that do not offer a freshly cooked breakfast due to the problem of food sitting in a heated "bowl" or plate going dry, but made the decision to stay here. Other than that the quality of service and staff was fantastic. 21 August 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Modern Rooms, good food, relaxing Stayed in the Holiday Inn Winchester on a trip to Peppa Pig World. Lovely hotel, clean, modern. Food was very good, good selection. Staff friendly. Nicely located near the town of Winchester which was well worth a visit. The only 2 negatives was that we felt a little rushed at breakfast time, the staff getting ready for lunch around us seemed more interested in that than looking after the breakfast requests. Also, the childs bed was very uncomfortable, could feel the springs through the mattress. 19 August 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Hotel Stayed at this hotel 2nd August- 5th August 2013. The Hotel is of an exceptional standard one of the best Holiday Inn's we have stayed at. Restaurant facilities and standard of food outstanding. Staff extremely welcoming and friendly. We stayed in a family room located on the lower ground floor. Rooms are extremely spacious, clean and modern. A couple of negatives.... The wardrobes are extremely narrow for a family of four staying for more than two nights and there is a lack of drawer space. The sink in the bathroom is a poor design far too high for children. Our ten year old could not reach the sink to clean her teeth. Finally, the wifi cost is per device at £9.99 per 24 hours. This we found overpriced considering a family of 4 is more than likely to have more than one wireless device. 10 August 2013

My only critisms are regarding firstly the online booking.When selecting which package to choose I picked the first which I thought met our needs not realising that there over 50 more different options to choose from which explains why I never saw anything about breakfast costing extra! Secondly,the internet.The last time I stayed in a Holiday Inn (not this one and a couple of years ago where the breakfast was included in the price!) Wi-Fi was £5 and cable connection in the room was free.Very different now. I was given a code for 30 mins "complimentary" connection which was not very satisfactory for a 3 day stay. I can understand a charge for Wi-Fi but nearly £10/day for wired connection - that's a bit much - not impressed. 08 August 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic stay Efficient & excellent service from staffs at Holiday Inn Winchester. I rang the hotel on a Wednesday morning telling them we have left some clothes in the room. Our clothes arrived back in our house the next day in the afternoon. Rooms are clean and spacious. Very prompt room service as we had dinners in our room. Very peaceful and quiet rooms despite proximity to motorway. 2 little niggles : Would be great to have a small fridge in the room and the bathroom basin is just a little too high. I am only 5" tall and the sink height levels with my chest! :-) Very very enjoyable stay nevertheless. Highly recomended. 31 July 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Clean and comfortable hotel Lovely new hotel, very clean, staff very friendly and helpful. We only stayed one night but the room was very comfortable and clean. Bar area very nice, We ate in the hotel restaurant in the evening, food and drinks were a little expensive but both were nice! Price for the room was very reasonable, we didn't have breakfast as we had a very early start the next day. All in all a great nights stay, would definitely stay here again! 26 July 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Welcoming and great Service The hotel was welcoming, clean and air conditioned - very important at the start of the heat wave. The staff were extremely helpful. Reception staff helped us with all our requests - even to finding me an emery board . We required several taxis and they booked everyone for us. The restaurant and bar staff were extremely helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the bed was comfortable. In particular, the night porter, on the Friday evening was cheerful helpful and friendly even though he was busy setting up for a wedding on the Saturday. Will definitely go to this hotel again and have already recommended to my friends 14 July 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic restaurant but......... This stay at the Holiday Inn Winchester was excellent in every respect except for one small point noted below. The room was well-appointed, clean and comfortable and the standard of service at the front desk and in the restaurant was first class. The evening meal in the restaurant was the best we have had in the last few years and only bettered by one at a Holiday Inn in Paris a number of years ago. So well done there. Incredible value. The only small point ( which was subsequently handled very well by the front desk ) was over breakfast. My wife and I drink neither tea nor coffee and our request for hot chocolate was met with a response that we would have to pay extra for that. Now I am a frequent business traveller and work abroad a lot and I have never encountered this before in any hotel I have stayed in so you might care to reconsider your policy here. 06 July 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely ideally placed hotel 2 night stay for me. Great reception area to sit an chat with fab outdoor dining/seating area too with fab weather which helped. Relaxed, informal atmosphere and great modern rooms very well presented. My faith is slowly being restored in HI with this one. Stones throw to Winchester with 1/2 hour into Southampton. Only downside is the noise in room from adjoining rooms but typical in these newly built hotels now. walls are paper thin. Restaurant. its a bit stuffy and dark, with the food well overpriced even for a hotel. Nice though. Will stay again and eat in the town next time. no recognition of me being priority member nor did I get my complimentary newspapers 04 July 2013

The rooms were clean but relatively small. The only downside was the bed. It was too soft for a new hotel. The bed did not provide sufficient support and sunk too much in the middle....not comfortable at all. It appeared to be an under-invested item in the hotel. 30 June 2013
