Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bryantfamily Great hotel
We were very happy with this hotel. One of the very few in the DC area that do not charge for parking.
We specifically chose this hotel for the indoor pool and it was not a disappointment. Even had a lifeguard in duty! If I had one complaint, I guess it would be to open the pool in the morning and not wait until 3pm. However, for our needs on this trip, evening swims were all we could fit in anyway so that was not a big deal.
Subway station right across the street as well as a couple good restaurants.
The shuttle driver was AMAZINGLY HELPFUL......gave us great tips/advice.
I would definitely choose to stay at this holiday inn again on our next trip to DC.

My family and I were very pleased with our visit to Washington D.C. The staff and service were unbelievable. I can not say enough how accommodating the staff are. The hotel itself was clean, updated and very clean. Thanks to everyone on your staff. We will definitely return.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by OceanAnnie Great D.C.-area stay on a budget
This is the second time in a decade I've stayed here and have not been disappointed. The staff is helpful and friendly, the updated rooms are nice and comfortable, and we still had free parking and easy access to the Eisenhower Metro station to travel back-and-forth to D.C. This time around, I considered pricier hotels in downtown D.C., but in the end the Holiday Inn Alexandria is still my go-to place to stay.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TheirFavoriteGuest Great Stay, right next to the Metro!
I picked this hotel because of its convenience to the Metro, and was able to travel into DC with a quick 20-minute train ride daily. It was a VERY convenient 5 minute walk from the hotel on a major street. It was also just a short walking distance to a small selection of restaurants that ranged all the way from Subway to local cafe type places. You could pretty much find anything you wanted in a casual dining way. What I didn't expect, but found, was that the staff here is incredibly customer focused! The shuttle will take you anywhere, and their friendly drivers helped me get oriented for driving on my own around the city. On one shuttle trip I needed to make, there was another group needing to be picked up elsewhere nearly the same time. As I wasn't in a hurry, I said I'd be glad to wait 15 minutes. Later, while I was in the shuttle, I heard the dispatcher ask the driver if their "favorite passenger" was aboard, obviously making sure that I was getting to where I needed to go. That was nice that they followed up on me, and it made me feel special to be called their favorite passenter. Ok, maybe they call all their passengers their favorite, but I'm pretty sure *I* was their TRUE favorite. I found lots of other examples of their excellent customer service, too,
The hotel has a nice indoor pool and workout area. There were restaurants and a bar that I didn't try. Close to a movie theater.
I would say that this is great for anybody who wants to go into DC for the day. It just couldn't have been more convenient.

I have stayed at this hotel 20 or more times in the last 7 years and love to come back. They always treat their guests with respect and care.
Cordelia and Earl on the front desk are just the nicest people who really understand how to treat guests well.
My thanks for a continuing job well done.

We spent three days in DC to see the sights and the cherry blossoms--particularly enjoyed a fuul day at Mount Vernon. This Holiday Inn is particularly welol run. The stall was friendly ,helpful and professional. Breakfast buffet was hot and filled with tasty items daily. Our room was nicely appointed as well as clean and very comfortable. I would rate our visit as a 5.0 We will definitely stay here again. Thank You

Your staff, from front desk, to housekeeping, was so accomodating! Wish there was a smoking lounge...not even outside in the courtyard with the vending machines? It would be nice to enjoy a drink from the bar with a cigarette even if we have to go outside.
I made this reservation thru corporate, and was advised no hotel shuttle from Washington National Airport (there is one) and a free breakfast voucher (not the case).
Received Priority Club statement today, no additional points after a 5-night stay?!

Well normally I love Holiday Inn, I think the chain as a whole is really great, which is why I'm a Platinum Elite Member of IHG. However this stay was definitely below average and not what I would have expected.
The issues we had were
--the room wasn't clean when we arrived. We called to tell someone that there was still hair and what looked like rocks on the bathroom floor and it was never addressed.
--The drain in the shower kept stopping up. They did send someone up to fix it. He said it was fine but it wasn't. Showering in standing water is not fun.
--We paid extra for the breakfast. The service was terrible. I had to ask three times for water, the food was less than lukewarm and the staff was constantly arguing and complaining over who's turn it was next and who had time for what. Our server pointed out the tip was not included as soon as we sat down. I get it, but how rude...tipping is based on service.
What's worse is that when we were checking out, the front desk asked how things were. When I started to explain these very issues, he stopped me and told me I should just go on Trip Advisor to air my concerns and handed me a card. I was dumbfounded. I didn't think the internet was answer to good old-fashioned customer service. We didn't even get a sorry your stay was less than great. That is absolutely unacceptable and makes me re-think my loyalty membership, since apparently you don't care about loyalty anyway.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jeff12211 Small but comfortable and convenient
The room was a little small for myself, wife, and young son. However, we didn't spend a great deal of time in the room. The pool was great for my son and having a lifeguard brought a sense of comfort to me as a parent. The hotel is conveniently located near the Metro station. Parking lot was always available. I would highly recommend this site for any family going to see the sites of Washington DC who is looking for a great deal.

My family and I spent 5 nights at the hotel. We had a great time. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room and hotel were nice and clean. They had a schuttle that would take you to local destinations and get you to the Metro station. Thanks to Milton, the schuttle driver, for being a great tour guide.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Alexandria SW Holiday Inn. We were on a family vacation to visit the DC area and couldn't have been happier with our accommodations. The staff members were all very helpful in recommending places to visit or restaurants to try in the area. The location of the metro just a few steps away was a definite plus! The rooms were supplied well, cleaned daily, and they had a microwave and refrigerator which was nice. It is a family-friendly hotel, and I have nothing negative to say. I have already recommended to others who plan to visit the area that they should stay here.

The desk staff is very helpful and courteous, especially Earl, Cordelia and John. They were attentive and accomodating.
The room still had a room freshner in there when I arrived which was no big deal as Earl immediately came up and got it.
The shower was great! Good pressure and strong shower head. However, the pillows were soft and out of shape. I prefer down if possible or some combination as the ones there were uncomfortable.
Overall, the staff are great and the accomodations good.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LeenieBeanie123 Good overall stay
My husband and I stayed here overnight as we were catching a basketball game in D.C. Alexandria is much more peaceful (and perhaps quite safer) than in D.C. Staff were courteous & friendly. The manager apologized 2 or 3 times as we were checking in because there was a difficult patron in front of us so there was a short wait. Staff called after we settled into our room to be sure things were suitable (which they were), and actually followed up with a message later that night thanking us for our patronage & to call the front desk with any issues. The room was well-equipped with a large, cozy, firm bed, flat screen TV, microwave, mini-fridge, & coffee maker. We paid through Holiday Inn's site, which was very inexpensive for the area, and paid ~$8 extra for each of us to have complimentary breakfast buffet. The staff here was friendly, & the food was very good. Only issue was there were trashy, hungover city people sitting near us but staff actually was good at calming them down. 24-hours fitness center we did not have time to check out. We signed up for Priority Club for free upon arrival & were able to then check out later than standard check-out time. Great value & pleasant staff. Overall would recommend & go here again if I were to travel to the area again.

The staff here was incredible. They were very nice and knowledgeable. They have a great priority member reconigtion program. Not only did I get a welcome package, they also had a scratch off game where I won a free breakfast at the resturant. The hotel was very nice and in a great location, within block of at least resturants and a movie theater, with easy access to the beltway.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Traveler15 Comfortable bed - poor service
The room was so-so. Really enjoyed the black out curtains. The bed was very comfortable, although only having four half-sized pillows on a King was very odd. The plug in the tub was disconnected, so I wasn't sure if it would actually contain water, but it did. We found a candy wrapper left on the floor from a previous guest. The fridge barely chilled anything.
However, the main disappointment was that we left the breakfast selection card on the door handle, expecting to receive breakfast in the morning, and when we got up at the expected time and checked, the card was still on the door and breakfast was no where to be found. We had chosen the last delivery time, so breakfast was over by then. Considering that we were willing to pay $9 each for breakfast, that was a real disappointment.
Overall, this doesn't compare very well with other InterContinental family hotels that I have stayed at. As a Priority Choice member, I stay exclusively at Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express on almost every trip, and this hotel was very average or below average.

I was staying at your hotel on 2/13/13 Ash Wednesday and the staff at the resturant was wonderful. I was not able to have any meat and they created a special fish dish with vegtables off the menu and actualy gave me 2 choices. Also it was the best seafood chowder I've had in years. Please thank the entire staff from the hostess to the waiter and the chef for making me a dinner and not having to leave the hotel to go out and eat after a very long day!

Overall a good experience, but was disappointment with the fitness equipment, the lack of a complimentary breakfast like other Holiday Inn Express locations, and how my room card stopped working while I was in the process of getting my bags out of the room. I read that I'd be granted a late checkout as a Priority Club Member. I plan to remain a loyal customer but I would like to consistency in the services provided in all Holiday Inn facilities. The staff as a big plus was very friendly.

I stayed here for a weekend trip while sight seeing in DC. After a long day on the National Mall, we came back to our room looking forward to some relaxing downtime only to find a youth hockey team had moved in on the hall. Unfortunately, the parents allowed their kids to run and play hockey in the hallway right outside our door. I just don't understand how people can be so overbearing sometimes! Thank goodness the front desk was very nice, and moved us 5 floors down so we could be away from the noise. Crisis averted. They also gave us a free meal ticket, which was very nice as well.
The hotel was clean the rooms were well-equipped. I enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend this hotel to others. Also, the fact that the hotel is within walking distance (1 block) to the yellow line metro made our travel to D.C. very convenient. The hotel allows you to park in their parking lot until 12:00 AM, so even after you check out and want to go exploring D.C., you can keep your car in their lot and avoid paying the expensive fee at the metro lot.
