Overall, what makes this hotel specila is how welcoming and hospitable the staff is. It also has a good quality gym and pool. August 21, 2015

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Apart From Restaurant, Service Poor or Non-Existent Having some time ago had a pleasant stay here my wife and I were extremely disappointed, particularly with the lack of service from the front desk. It took 30 minutes to check-in because there was only 1 member of staff and he didn’t seem to know what he was doing! The hotel has no lift but there was no offer to help with our cases. When I called the front desk from our room to let them know there was a safety-related problem nobody answered the phone. I reported the problem in person to the front desk the next morning but when we returned to the hotel that evening the problem had still not been addressed so I called the front desk from the room again. This time they answered but only seemed interested in guessing at excuses why nothing had been done and not interested in helping so I asked to speak to the Duty Manager and was told she was very busy as they had a wedding (does this imply there is a rating system for guests receiving service). I insisted he get the duty manager to talk to me and let me know when that would be. He called back and said in 10 minutes and within minutes the manager came and addressed the problem. When I spoke to her I contrasted the poor (at times non-existent) service from the front desk to the efficient and friendly service in the restaurant. On checking out despite there being a note on the computer about our dissatisfaction I was asked if our stay had been OK to which I replied not really. The young lady then asked if there was anything she could do to which my response was you can’t turn back the clock to undo the poor service. Based on this experience it is extremely unlikely that we will use this hotel again and would not recommend it . August 19, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Clean comfortable family room I visited this hotel for a few days break with my 2 grandchildren, aged 7 and 13. Had booked a double room with a pull-out sofa bed. The room was a decent size and the bed was nice and big, likewise the sofa bed comprised two separate beds and all were comfortable with good quality bed linen and pillows. Nice clean bathroom but only niggle was that the plug in the wash basin did not work so you had to keep the taps running all the time. Not very eco-friendly and annoying. Shower was good. Breakfast was v. good and wide choice but dinner was a disappointment. Rather ordinary fare and expensive given the quality. Swimming pool and spa area great hit with the children and I enjoyed it too. Nice clean facilities. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. I left a few things behind and they arranged to post them back to me. Would go there again (am going in Oct) but hope the sink plug works this time and the evening meals have improved. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A comfortable 2 nights Having just sold our property we needed somewhere to unwind after the stress of moving. The holiday Inn proved to be the place to do just this. Staff were friendly, the hotel was clean, the room was clean and very comfortable. The really large bath towels were a delight to use. Apart from a few noisy 4am guests the stay was exceptionally pleasant. August 18, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 1970s Revisited Rather tired and old-fashioned hotel. Clean, quiet, but lots of dated aspects - baths with flappy shower curtains for example. TV in bar/lounge for some reason permanently set on Liverpool FC Channel. Staff polite but not focussed on customers - check-out continue to keep their head down and finish their admin before even saying good morning, restaurant staff leave you alone for ages, then suddenly decide to serve you. They seem more aware of running the hotel than looking after customers, although individually they are fine when they get round to it. August 17, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rates We booked for two nights but checked out after the first night because we found the rate increase excessive. Many people left for the same reason. Our conclusion is that you prefer to have the hotel half empty at weekends! Or is the increase because of the holiday period and people are "forced" to pay up whatever the rate? In our opinion your rates for a 3 star hotel are too high. August 11, 2015
