Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Business Trip 3 weeks Over the last 3 months I have stayed at all of the holiday Inn's around Barnsley due to staying away on business. I would rate J37as the best all rounder, the room was always comfortable, clean and well equipped the reception area is very nice, The reasturants food was great, I would recommened the steak and Ale Pie 5*. All of the staff were very helpful and always had a positive attitude. The only improvement I would suggest is shower power the shower in my room 113 was a little lax at times but never the less perfectly acceptable. I hope to stay again very soon June 3, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not up to the usual standard I stay at this hotel once a week but normally on a Sunday evening. This time I had the misfortune of staying on a Thursday and Friday evening. The internet was none existent on the thursday evening completely destroying my meeting planning for the day afterwards and on the friday night the disco and auction was so loud that I was unable to sleep. I complained about the noise when checking out and what was most disappointing was all i received was a cursory apology and "yes it can be loud on a friday night comment" . I understand that at times things can't be 100% perfect but the way the hotel deals with issues needs to be improved. Staff need empowering to "make things right", rather than offering an apology that has zero follow up and is reliant on the customer making a complaint. May 27, 2014

The Holiday Inn staff worked miracles as a well drilled team to get the next group of guests settled in. I had another lovely stay in the hotel - thanks and well done to all. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday Inn - but not as we know it. Lady who checked us in - amazing - wish it had been her weekend on! Usual Hol Inn friendliness. Rooms smart, clean enough, good thick curtains, pokey budget lodge size to the room, no towel rail, towels draped around room to dry overnight. Very poor bed - both rolled into the middle of the bed. Holiday Inn beds are usually exceptional. Family room in Holiday Inns are not usually a juggling act around the furniture. However this is the least of your worries. Woken at 6:30am by guest next door phoning home and talking at length. Then there were bathroom fans, toilets flushing and the sound of torrential rain - which we later worked out was the deafening sound of an over bath shower. It honestly sounded like rain in a thunderstorm. When trying to mention to staff at reception the noise in the foyer was so deafening there they couldn't hear my husband. Yes there were a couple of wedding receptions - but young children screaming, running the corridors and bashing the piano is surely something hotel staff could ask parents to supervise? Before you book to stay here, I strongly advise that you ask if there is any event on at the hotel during your stay. If they tell you there is, book somewhere else. Our son was trying to sleep on our second night and all we could hear was doors slamming, stampeding feet and yelling. From our morning experience we knew the hotel staff were not going to intervene - so I ended up on a sofa supervising the corridor pleading with other people's children to be quiet so our son could get to sleep! My husband was then woken as the party goers came to bed - apparently they were as bad as the children. Breakfast was also not the usual Holiday Inn fare. The bread choices were inferior, the cooked breakfast curled up and no pancake machine. The female chef looked miserable! Yes we might stay again - knowing it's limitations, but treat it as a budget hotel. But not the one that guarantees a good nights sleep! April 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One of my favourite Holiday Inn hotels A cut above most other Holiday Inns, more of a "Crowne Plaza" feel ! Staff excellent, friendly and efficient. I had my second Barnsley Chop in the restaurant. Expensive but fantastic. Will be staying again when I'm in the area. One downside - the aircon in the room needs to be fixed. Thanks and well done ! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Best Holiday Inn in the UK!!! We stayed at the Holiday Inn, Barnsley on IHG Rewards points and reception gave us a Platinum upgrade to one of the best rooms in the hotel! Nino, the duty manager then offered to carry our bags and show us to our room, I thought he was looking for a tip - how wrong! In the room he refused a tip and asked if we liked wine, we did and he returned with a complementary bottle of Cava! He still refused a tip. The room had a lounge area with two settees and a coffee table. The bed was an oval contemporary four poster. Large, clean bathroom. Food was good. One morning we went to breakfast quite late, but there was still a good choice and some items were still being replenished. Our stay included free membership of Bannatyne's gym and pool next door. The facilities are excellent. There are two heated spa pools, two steam rooms and a sauna. I went there twice. A lovely break in the middle of February, handy for the nearby Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We will definitely be staying here again. February 15, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Freezing cold! The heater was switched off automatically around midnight with no way of switching back on. To add insult to injury, the ventilation device was blowing cold air! Consulted the staffs downstairs and was told that there's nothing much they could do since the duty maintenance manager was off duty at the time. In the end, I was given a couple of quilts to make it through the night after failing to find me a portable heater device. Strange enough, the heater was turned back on by itself the next morning which made me think that it had been put on timer by the hotel operator to save cost. If that's the case then the hotel had been very inconsiderate since it was the first week of January!! No complimentary upgrade for platinum member despite their website clearly showed that the executive rooms were widely available at the time of check in. though I was given a choice of either having 500 points or a free drink and free snacks. No independent toileteries, only "LUX" squeezy shower and shampoo jobby, which is unusual for a holiday inn. Requested the "Times" newspaper but was never delivered and was told because they were in short supply. Overall a rather unpleasant experience!! And I don't normally rant about my staying experience but this was too much! January 6, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly, helpful staff/good location We have stayed at this hotel before over the Christmas period. It is ideally located near to where friends and relatives live. We hope to return next time we visit the area. The rooms are large and comfortable-cleaned well -all staff helpful and friendly. Our only two concerns this visit were -we were placed in a room close to the hotel's party room when I had requested a quiet room. I went to reception around midnight and was assured that the music would end soon -which it did. Secondly the safe in the room did not lock and this was unable to be fixed during our 3 day stay. To be fair this was over Christmas so probably regular maintenance staff were unavailable. Otherwise our stay was very enjoyable. January 6, 2014

It was a treat to use the excellent pool and leisure facilities adjacent to the hotel - particularly the Total Relaxation Room. The bar menu had lots of choices for us as vegetarians and was cooked and presented to a high standard, so we were delighted to have a meal with friends here. The staff were friendly and were willing to go the extra mile to give good service. January 2, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely hotel but poor sleep quality We stayed over on a Saturday evening. The hotel was lovely and we got a quiet room as requested. The checking in process was quick and simple. My only problem with it was the bed. The mattress was much too soft and actually felt like it was on its way out. It was actually quite impossible to get comfortable in, and I also ended up with a very uncomfortable back the following day. I am not sure if it is the case with that particular room/bed or an issue across the board although I have never had issues with mattresses in other IHG hotels in the past. January 1, 2014

From their arrival to their departure the service was first class. They were able to enjoy their xmas break. Their food, freshly prepared by the chef was perfect. The service by all staff : at reception, the bar, the room maintenance team, was excellent, you have good, courteous, attentive staff. My error was that I should have booked a room with facilities for the disabled, however they managed, without needing to request a change of room. They are actually from the village, but have retired to the coast. They will come home again in the future to take short breaks with the family, and to stay at your hotel for top class service in a comfortable environment. Thanks again to you all. December 30, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works Christmas Party I would like to say we had a very nice time at our Christmas Party so much so we will be booking again for next year! My only concern is the party hadn't got started we were sitting down to our meal and the bar didn't have the bottles of wine that we wanted they had completely run out of Zinfandel we managed to get one bottle of Pinot Grigio Rose before they ran out of that then we asked for White Procecco but there was none left so the young man offered us Procecco Rose at the same price as the white which was a nice gesture! Maybe the bar stock needs to be over rather than under? I have managed a bar and from experience find that Christmas parties tend to use up lots of alcohol and so it is usually better to have too much rather than not enough! The second time from the 4th December was not as good as the first there were things missing on the second time . For example no bath mats available as advertised . Room very cold on return in evenings . No walk in shower as requested . Perhaps next time . December 12, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not a good experience On arrival there was little recognition for a Platinum member. No room upgrade, no offer of bonus points, no vouchers, only a free drink at the bar. I arrived at 20:30 and so only left bag in room before heading to the bar for food. The bar was not busy and so an order of a starter and main course should be not problem. It took a while and then both the starter and main course arrived together ! I needed to get the waiter to take the main course back to the kitchen while I ate my starter. When the main course was returned it was very hot. It was only fish, chips and peas but the batter was particularly bad - so thick that it was inedible. On returning to the room it was quite spacious. The bathroom was poor and not clean - no soap in the sink bottle, mouldy shower curtain, dirt around lower walls. On check-out I was offered a receipt from a printer that was barely readable - it took time to find a decent one. A poor hotel in all. December 10, 2013

This was the first time we have gone away for a break, and tried Holiday inn hotel. It was very nice and the trip from Manchester over the hills to Barnsley with all the views was great, having never been up north before. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by One to avoid Booked a double room with a bath. Room was not ready at 5.30pm so I was given a single with a shower. I was told there was two functions on until 1am. I thought that meant it would be busy down stairs. what that really meant was your room will vibrate with the noise and you will hear not only the music but even the DJ speaking. I would recommend if you have to stay here do not accept a room on the first floor. December 5, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Excellent customer care from reception and duty management I had chosen to stay at the Holiday Inn Barnsley for 4 nights on a business trip. I had a minor problem with a fan type noise in my room which disturbed me on the first night. I reported to a very helpful receptionist who had the duty manager come and see me. I was assisted to move rooms as the noise could not be identified. The staff at this hotel are courteous and most helpful with local directions. This rates as the best of the Holiday Inns I have tried and on this trip alone I have stayed in three. November 25, 2013
