I have stayed here several times on business trips. By Far this is the best Holiday Inn and Executive Club I have experienced. I put the location as a pro and con since it is close to my conference site in Beijing, but too bad it is not located near my other work locations.
Executive Club staff excellent.

Good room size, very helpful service. Quite like (in fact better than) any other US 4 star hotel.
Location is a bit away from the city center but subway station (Wukesong, Line 1) is a pleasant 10 minutes walk away.
English language is a problem but manageable. Someone is always available at reception who speaks workable English.
They switch off AC at night? Perhaps common problem with all Beijing hotels? Only wired internet in the rooms.

To start of, as an Associate General Manager for one of the largest Insurance and Financial Services firm in the world, my expectations are high. I also understand the most valuable asset of an organization is not only its name, but its people.
I certainly felt for the days I am in this wonderful hotel, regardless of the position and title, each and everyone of them is truly trying to make you feel at home. For example, the room cleaning/laundry service will put a hand-written note on my bed each day to make sure the room was done to my standards and the newly washed/ironed clothes are done to my likings.
Now, the Executive Lounge... what can I can... it's for sure one of the best team in the industry. Nancy, the manager for Executive Lounge made everything possible for me. I actually had to leave this hotel and visit another HolidayInn property, and Nancy had made a call to the Front Office Manager of that establishment and took care of everything, including my suite upgrade. Also, one morning I opened my room door, and I see two bottles of Pepsi in front of my room, with a note says: "Mr. Miao, here's the Pepsi that you like, have a great day!". I mean, that's amazing... how did she know I like to drink Pepsi??? Since their hotel only use Coke products... it was a wonderful feeling.
Then, there is the dining team... the manager Ms. Guo and Ms. Wang really went out of the way to make sure my needs are met. For example, I like to eat "hand-tossed" noodles in the morning... and once they are out... they will try to find the noodle for me... even it means they have to buy it on the street. I am speechless....
I just want to share with the world that this team let by Chitty, the Assistant General Manager, and Mr. Chu #the GM# are truly world class. If I am in the hospitality industry, I would have no hesitation to hire them all. Each one of them is doing their job... not just to meet the job descriptions... but with a heart. They truly "care" for their clients. They have created an environment for me that feel like they know me as a "guest or a person"... and not just another "statistics."
It is my honor to post this review... and keep up the great work guys. You may not be a 5 star hotel... but your service is truly 6 star.

This is my countless time of visiting this wonderful establishment. In fact, this is the review that I missed to write for my stay in Feb. I am currently in the hotel again for my trip here in Beijing. Of course, I will write another review upon my departure.
As per my previous reviews, this establishment is truly "one of its kind." There is no "one" hotel can meet 100% of the guest satisfaction, but his hotel should be close... in my view.
For example, I always travel with my laptop and my iPad. During the stay and all other previous stay, I am able to connect to the internet (very good quality by the way) via LAN line. However, my iPad cannot. In this stay, the hotel had carefully install a wireless router in my room so that my iPad can also receive the wireless internet.
Another outstanding service came in when I was checking out off the hotel. Apparently, since I am the VIP guest for Air China, I had the BMW airport pickup service requested. However, the small initiation fee has to be paid by a credit card. Not a problem... and I have plenty. But, it has to be paid by the "China" issued credit card. In the case, I don't have any. Then Nancy at the Executive Lounge had ask one of the front office manager whom happens to have a credit card. She then ran up to the Executive Lounge and talked to the Air China rep and took care of the whole thing.
As you can see, this is the type of services that this establishment willing to do for their guests. To make them to feel like at home.....
To many travelers out there... I am sure you are just like me, you have many choices of hotels... even just within the IHG brand. However, I urge you to give this wonderful hotel a try... and stay at the "Executive Room." I think you will experience what I have experienced for years... completely pampering and indulging in a wonderful home away from home!!!

In the past few years, I have stayed in this hotel for a number of time. The service were good, staff were freindly. The only thing that I did not fee very good was the room temperature in the summer, it did not work properly in several rorms I stayed.

Concierge service with less than average performance led to very bad after stay experience. Ordered pick-up service from airport with final delay of 1.5h on arrival. Transportation from hotel to airport not arranged as requested led to additional costs and finally missed flight!
Besides that, good experience with other hotel services.
Communication at Thai restaurant in English not easy but good quality.
Communication at night club in English nearly impossible.

...and I would definitely return to this hotel if I was going back there. Great facilities, including an excellent gym and swimming pool - far better than comparable hotels in the UK. The location is reasonably close to city centre, I was travelling on business but managed to get half a day to look round the main city centre locations (about 25 minutes journey on the Metro). Nearest Metro stop is further away from the hotel than it looks on the map, but still easily walkable.
Food very good, I only used the 'Florence' restaurant but the others looked attractive from the outside at least. For fussy Westerners, a better selection of breakfast cereals might be an idea. The staff were delightful, very friendly and courteous without being over fussy.
Room was excellent, mine looked over the rear of the hotel but was quiet and excellently maintained with nice housekeeping touches I have also had elsewhere in IC Asia hotels #fruit in the room, complementary bottled water etc#. Never a problem getting taxis or with the door staff helping out to guide the drivers, always welcome when needed.
Only noticeable downside was that smoking was allowed in certain hotel areas #including public areas# and was noticeable as a result. Strange adn unwelcome for me, but I guess part of accepted local practice.

Only one thing did not meet my need, the room temperature could not reach to 23 degree by adjusting the air conditioner, it was a little bit cold in the room.

To start off, I have been a Platinum member with IHG for many years now. At the same time, I am also the Diamond member with the other well known hotel group. As the result, I have the rare opportunity to stay at many finest hotels throughout the world. I have to say, this 4-star HolidayInn Chang An West can rival with many other 5-star hotels... if not better!
When I stay at this hotel, my room is "always" upgraded to one of the Executive room and an Executive suite when it's available. When I was sitting down at the Exevutive Lounge to have a drink... I was always greeted by my name. And the management always go the extra mile to satisfy my needs. For example, I like to have my coke with ice and fresh lemon. As the result, after I've arrived in my room, I would get a bucket of ice and slices of fresh lemon to go with the comp free drinks in the room. Also, my clothes was also washed/dry cleaned and ironed for me to wear the next day.
Also, the full Chinese/Western breakfast is truly wonderful. I have so many choices. As being a Chinese myself, I ought for the Chinese dishes. And one of my favorite is the fresh Chinese noodles. Since the full breakfast bar is not available at the Executive lounge, the hotel would even have someone cook me the noodle on the 2nd floor and bring it to me at the Executive Lounge.
I have only experienced these type of distinguish services when I stay at the Intercontinentals. I am truly spoiled and always indulge myself in this wonderful establishment.
Again, I have many choices of hotels... and this one really sets the bar for others. Chitty, the Assistant General Manager is a true professional. She led a team whom really understand the notion of "care" when treating their every guest. I am honor to be their guest when I travel to Beijing... I am truly blessed!!!

Even though the hotel is a little far away from the city, the metro is very close and the value for the price is great. Knowledgeable staff, friendly and helpful; room was quiet and comfortable; breakfast was good for the overall price and the staff very friendly; I took the weekend of a business trip to visit Beijing and this hotel fit exactly my needs

This hotel is poorly managed. My wife and I stayed in an executive room, and received a call from a hotel staff at 2:30 AM claiming two women were in our room and requested registration. My wife told the staff that there was nobody entered the room. The staff knocked our door again at 3:00 AM and apologized for the mistake and blamed poor quality of the surveillance video system. It is clear that the staff lacks appropriate training to handle such issue.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by jtbearden If you like being charged for items you did not use or hot rooms in the dead of summer, this is the place for you.
Avoid this hotel. For the price and location, you can do a lot better.
1) Multiple trips to the lobby to get card key to work.
2) Multiple requests to have room cleaned.
3) Multiple requests to have someone look at A/C - room would not cool in the dead of summer.
4) At check out, charged for Mini-bar items we never touched.
5) Booked one room online a Price X, yet, upon arrival, forced to pay extra for same room.
Staff great at apologies, but not so good at promised actions.
