Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by In need of a make over Very disappointing for this brand, was like stepping back in time when it came to the rooms. Bathrooms look nice until you try to close the door, a re-layout is required here. My first room had to be changed as the carpet outside the bathroom was wet from something. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by A Good Hotel that has Become very Tired I first came to this hotel about 8 years ago and since then it seems to have become tired and frayed around the edges. Staff are warm and friendly but the general atmosphere is not up to the standard you would expect. In our room, the bathroom door did not fit the frame or close properly, one of the bottles of shower gel was already half used and the pillows/bed were rock hard . . . . and an empty box of tissues was artfully garnished with a single tissue to give the impression of a full box :P! The spa area was understaffed with no one to greet guests when we arrived. A general feeling of cost cutting everywhere! It is reasonable for the price but it needs a good shakeup before it can be somewhere you would visit for pleasure. June 25, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not up to usual IHG Standards We arrived very late on our first night and although we had prepaid our room, were asked to secure £100 on our debit card, in case of room service (the previous weekend, in another IHG hotel, we were not asked for this, under exactly the same circumstances). When we came to check-out, although I requested this, they did not refund through the chip and pin machine, but said they would have to contact the bank. We felt this was strange. The room was OK, but the bathrooms are extremely cramped, especially around the toilet area. Obviously an issue which couldn't be solved easily, along with the lack of lifts and the shabby (and in places lifting) corridor and stair carpets. We complained to the staff about two incidents. Firstly, a cleaner had plugged in a hoover and left the cable at waist-height, taut across across the bottom of the main stairs and then over the banister and down to the floor below. There was no way of asking the cleaner to remove it as we were a floor above and the hoover was noisy (we did try). We eventually had to unplug it. Secondly, our second morning breakfast was extremely busy. Although the staff were courteous and prepared to do anything, there were no plates at the hot buffet and no tea in the urn and I had to request both refills. Further, on our first morning, the staff had been able to find and toast for me gluten free rolls (although bread is usual in any other IHG hotel) and did so quickly. However, on the second morning, although I asked for the same, it seemed to be much more of a challenge and it came out as bread (warm in places, as it obviously had just been defrosted in a microwave) and not toasted. We felt that this hotel was not up to the usual standards of the IHG band. We note that it is 'under licence' to managing company. June 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another great stay. We have used this hotel a number of times for local dog shows and the staff helped to make it a memorable 'Father's Day' weekend. Sonia on Reception was a diamond yet again with a warm, friendly welcome and quick check in, IHG Group should look after her, she's a good'un! We normally have a drink at the bar and then Room Service later for food with having a small dog with us, and the bar team Holly, Connor and Nathan are always friendly and offer great service. Room Service was efficient and the food was very nice. Altogether, we had a great, memorable weekend, with good weather allowing us to sit outside and chat to other guests. "Thank you" to you all for everything in making it such a very pleasant long weekend, well done to the management and staff! June 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ideal location for city centre Hotel located outside city centre - 15 minute ride by bus to city, Hotel clean and lovely entrance lobby. Staff very polite and professional. We do think that bar staff need to be a bit more aware when taking drink orders and entering on till. We were charged for drinks we did not have. Took this up with the Manager who apologised and sorted the problem out immediately. Overall a lovely Holiday Inn and we have stayed at quite a few now. Never disappointed. Would recommend to anyone staying in Birmingham. June 24, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Happy and hard working staff It's a very busy hotel and the team there work extremely hard to make customers feel welcomed. Some of the fabric of the hotel needs replacing especially in the public areas but to be fair they have done guest bathrooms first. It's a happy place; I just wish IHG group would revitalise it's meal menus and improve their value! June 24, 2015
