Great service from the staff, great rooms and public spaces. The hotel is easily accessible from the motorway and yet within easy reach of Birmingham City Centre. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Better Than The Last Time Stayed at this hotel again after a dismal experience a few months ago. This time got a platinum upgrade and found the overall experience ten times better than the last visit. It may be the case that the standard rooms are grim (it was on my last visit) but the executive room was pretty good, very comfortable bed and bigger. If its the case that the standard rooms are just bad the hotel needs to think about refurb as I sure wouldnt stay in one of them again but would come back to an exec room without a problem The breakfast was better than most HI that I stay in and the staff were fine just like my last visit. The roadworks on the M6 continue to cause a real problem getting out of this hotel, I left at 0705 and got on to the M6 northbound 25 minutes later despite the hotel being almost on the junction, so if your going on to the motorway at this time take this into account January 19, 2014

I had a room in the quiet area of the hotel and everything was done to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Even when housekeeping had finished I was left a 'parcel' outside my bedroom door containing clean towels, tea, coffee milk etc. Staff are always friendly. I have been working in the area for the last 6 months and wouldn't stay anywhere else January 16, 2014

I have to travel for work quite a lot so I've stayed at lots of different hotels, many of them holilday inns and I have to say this one is consistently the worst! The staff are always friendly and helpful but ultimately not very good. In the past few weeks my bill has been wrong, I've had to move rooms a number of times for various reasons (the latest because they'd re-tiled the bathroom and not cleaned up after themselves properly), and my favourite, when they charged my colleague for me not turning up on a date that I hadn't booked a room! Consequently they hadn't booked the room for the correct date either... Thanks reception. January 14, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Average place to stay, nothing special Had to eat our overpriced meal while kids party kicked off around us. Very noisy and uncomfortable eating arrangements. Added too by football fans on table next to us cheering on their team on tv screen. Had to walk miles to our room, last thing we needed carrying luggage and a sleeping child. Found bottle of cleaning fluid left in our room, not enough complementary tea milk coffee or cups, swimming pool was the best point. January 5, 2014

The location was very good .we got a very good size family room.The staff was very welcome and always asked if we need something.. We took the children to the pool and was a very special lady gave as a very nice welcome with towels and mails! (Amanda !!! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible On check in their were no check in disclosures made, i.e. times and costs of breakfast, amenities etc, despite being a Gold Elite member for IHG, no welcome pack or any room upgrade.offered or provided, Service at the Hotel was very poor, with the exception of the odd members of staff and most of the cleaners most of the staff were miserable, debating providing us free internet when we are entitled to it. The room had no fridge or microwave, instead a trouser press and chiller! A little impractical for a family room, particularly when trying to keep 2 children 3 and 1 fed and having to warm up children's milk in their bottle in the kettle...!!! We asked for some ice to the room and some plated knives and forks for some take away food, and got a £7.50 charge for room service? Front desk rarely answer the phone, on 2 occasions during our stay we have had teenagers placed in family rooms opposite and next to us, drunk loud and running up and down corridors until 2.30am, despite calling the front desk for more than 2 hours no one answered and I had to confront them myself, as I have 2 children 3 and 1 that were sleeping, not my job! We tried to get a table for Christmas day lunch and were told they were fully booked? It appears to non residents! As patrons of the Hotel we should have been accommodated no matter what. We called house keeping for milk cartons for tea at 5pm one day and they never came despite a second call, so we resorted to buying our own milk. I asked to speak to the manager 3 days into a 3 week stay, I never heard from anyone? We were told when we inquired at breakfast on Christmas Day that the breakfast was £10 adult, children eat free, only to be told later it was £14.95 each not pre booked or with voucher, we were never told this at check in? Otherwise we would have booked vouchers or just booked bed and breakfast. Myself and my 7 year old Daughter went to breakfast New Years Eve at 9.50am to be told it stopped at 9.30am, we have had several different times for breakfast 9.30am 10am 10.30am and 11am, no one informed us that it was 9.30am today or indeed we saw no posts as such either, we were bought the throw away food from the kitchen which was cold and horrid, then we were charged 2 adult fees? We should not have been charged at all...!!! I asked about the bar for New Years Eve to be told their was a dinner dance on and we could buy drinks from the bar and go to a lounge that was being opened up elsewhere in the Hotel to sit with our drinks! This Hotel does not cater for it's patrons favoring people from outside the Hotel. December 31, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by thoughtful staff and great service On a night of dreadful weather this was a very welcome haven as our stopover between St Andrews and Sevenoaks. Staff were very considerate and understanding of our needs - we were travelling with our small dog - and we were made to feel very welcome. Restaurant staff were efficient and accommodating as we changed mid-order from sit-in to room service. Food was very good and quick, despite a large Xmas party being catered for. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Clean, spacious room The reception on arrival was quite slow but she did recognise platinum status with a voucher for a drink for myself and partner. There was a xmas party so the noise during our stay was the worse i have experienced at a Holiday Inn. Drunk party goers returning in large groups to their rooms singing and shouting in the corridor until past midnight. Followed by a domestic at 4am in the room next door! Then we fell asleep only to be awoken by a wake up call we had NOT booked! Maybe staff could have been employed to monitor the noise and behaviour ?? We didn't have breakfast as we didn't want to fight our way through a lot of hung over party goers. Checking out the service was excellent. December 18, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall Feedback On my first visit the room had a bath robe, bottles of water and plenty of toiletries.....I was pleasantly surprised at this.....so on arriving the week after, I was disappointed at not having the bath robe, bottles of water and hardly any toiletries. The positives are the friendly and very accommodating staff members throughout the hotel and the festive welcome at Reception with drinks, cookies, mince pies and music. December 16, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 The Invisible Non-Function Guests We stayed here whilst visiting a friend. Pretty poor from the start. There was some kind of large party/wedding going on, and whilst I received a phone call about this the day before when rates had rocketed, there was no info on this during/after booking. The hotel and it's staff had their attention totally focused on said function and the service offered to their hotel customers suffered severely as a result. The front desk staff were distracted, rushed and uninterested. No platinum room upgrade was offered, and they completely forgot about internet being complimentary for platinum rewards club members. Upon arriving at the allocated room, it smelt strongly of cigarette smoke and was not pleasant. After being moved to a room further up the hall, this smelt marginally better, but was tired. The furniture was torn/worn/threadbare, wallpaper was peeling and the lampshade beside the bed was broken. Even worse was that the phone in the room didn't work and, after finding the hotel's number on the IHG site and phoning front desk from a mobile, it rang out and then said 'We are currently busy, please try again later.' Whilst we had assurance on the phone that dinner arrangements were not compromised by the party, we were asked to order food at the busy bar, then directed to a separate conference room whilst the main dining area was used for the function. This conference room had mismatched furniture, and when food arrived we had to find our own cutlery and condiments. We asked for more milk to also be brought for us to take back to the room - this never arrived. At breakfast the following morning, the breakfast area was mostly full of empty tables needing clearing, so we were directed to a separate room once again, with a reduced breakfast buffet and minimal facilities. A forage for cutlery was once again necessary. Thankfully we were able to fetch breakfast from the main buffet also. We were presented with a bill for internet access upon check out (we'd been told this was included the previous evening.). The clerk removed this, and also refunded the food bill after we discussed this. In conclusion, by far the worst IHG hotel either of us have stayed at - you can generally get far superior service at a Holiday Inn Express (which are supposed to be the budget brand!). The hotel in general is tired and needs a refurb, as well as some decent staff training. I would advise anyone booking this to perhaps call in advance and check if there are functions ongoing - or alternatively book into the Holiday Inn Birmingham NEC - it's a world of difference to this! Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Simply awful One of the worst stays I've ever had. Hotel was full of drunken revellers. Hardly slept a wink. The hotel was hosting a Christmas party in the dining area. Not good that they allowed this to spill over into the lobby and main bar. Also not good that you had to walk through a gathering of smokers at the hotel entrance (all part of the party)! I should have kicked up a stink and got my money back as what good is a hotel you can't sleep in. Oh well, really hope I never have to see this place again. December 12, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by C'mon Holiday Inn - You can do better. Staying for 2 nights with Reward points and only 5,000 so from that perspective good value. Hotel public areas are fine and the rooms likewise if not a little small. We had executive rooms and these were small in comparison to others I have stayed in. So all OK until we saw the bathroom. This clearly had not been updated or refitted in a VERY long time and was well below the standards expected. on closer examination there were mould spots round the shower and dis-coloured grout due to the excessive age of the tiles. Fittings poor and very dated. C'mon Holiday Inn you can do better than this, the management need to review this issue with some urgency. On the plus side the location is great just off the motorway and the X51 bus outside the hotel takes you direct to the city center shops. December 7, 2013

The staff are always friendly and go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Even when I have worked a 'night' shift and missed 'housekeeping' there is a bag outside my door with new towels and tea, coffee milk etc The position of the hotel is also ideal ... just off J7 of the M6. I have stayed in a few other hotels in the area, when this hotel was full, but they don't match the Holiday Inn. Hope this helps December 6, 2013
