My stay at the Blacksburg, Va. Hoilday Inn was very comfortable, the rooms and bathroom were immaculate. I want to thank the staff for the upgrade of my room to keep me in the same area as my alumni group that was having an event there

Very nice staff at front desk. Despite being overwhelmed and short of staff, they were always very nice and very helpful.
clean and comfortable hotel with the right amenities including a refrig, micro, coffee maker and hair dryer.
This hotel gets particularly high marks for the furnishings. The desk and bedside tables have built in easily accessible electrical outlets that actually work.
Four people in the room could easily recharge our various electronic devices.

The beds in this hotel are doubles and old.....the rooms are small...this hotel should have been bulldozed years ago.....I'm shocked it is still allowed in the Holiday Inn system.....

Young individuals at check in and check out that could care less about your satisfaction. Problems were encountered with lack of concern or help to relieve the situation by the hotel staff.

When we made our reservation to stay at the Holiday Inn in Blacksburg, VA we anticipated that our accommodations would be the generic Holiday Inn rooms that we had previously experienced. However when we first glimpsed the property from the exterior we thought it was quite unique. To be honest one of the reasons that this is a rave review is because we were upgraded to "Guests of the Day" which was a lovely surprise. Apparently this Holiday Inn location selects a "Guest of the Day" each day and upgrades their accommodations It felt like we won the lottery! The King Suite was spacious and had more than we needed. Since we were there for a two night stay it was a gift to enjoy this relaxing suite. However even if we are not selected to be "Guests of the Day." we would stay at this Blacksburg, VA Holiday Inn the next time that we visit Blacksburg. Congratulations to the staff and the company..

Our over all stay was excellent. One thing I did not like was a workout room on premises. They do have a tiny room w/3 machines, but invite you to use the gym across the street. Not exactly convenient.

1. There was a charge for breakfast. Most hotels I stay at have some kind of free breakfast. Moreover, this was not disclosed. Needless to say, I only ate breakfast there once.
2. AC died during my stay. Fortunately, it was cool at night, so no problem. Also, the fan was quite loud.
3. Room cleaning took partially used soap and shampoo and did not put new in its place. I had to ask for more. Also, there was no attempt to reduce resource consumption by suggesting guests leave towels on floor to signal they needed to be cleaned. (Or leave them on towel rack if guest did NOT think they needed to be cleaned.)
4 I got the impression the captive audience from VA Tech enabled this Holiday Inn to get away with a lot.
5. One bright spot: the staff was helpful and friendly.

We made a reservation on 06/27/2014 for a 1st floor room, a queen executive suite. When we arrived at 5:00 pm on Saturday 06/28/2014 we were very upset to learn that the room we reserved was not available. Evidently the housekeeping staff did not clean it. We called the day of arrival to add a room to our reservation for our niece. We to Ryan he assured us everything was a go. Upon arrival everything was not a go and we were told the only room was available was on the 2nd floor. My husband walks with a cane and has a very, very difficult time with stairs. To say that it was inconvenient to have a room on the second floor in a hotel with no elevator is an understatement. So we paid for a room on the 2nd floor because we had somewhere we needed to be and really had no other choice.
I worked for Holiday Inn for 12 years. While I understand that mistakes happen our reservation was for room 121. It was noted in your system. The desk clerk even asked if there was a particular reason we had asked for that room. We had made the reservation by phone directly at your location. We spoke t a young man and told him what we needed. He told us that room 121 was the best one for us. We trusted him to know your hotel better than we did. So he noted in your system. We called the day of arrival around 1:00 pm. Ryan again said everything was good and we would be in room 121. This was certainly before housekeeping left for the day. How is it that your executive housekeeper did not check the reservations against her room sheet? When it was discovered by the desk clerk, Marisa?, that room was not clean we were offered the Presidential Suite for the same price, but then it was discovered that room was not clean either. Whether that room was on the 1st or 2nd floor, we have no idea. While the young lady checking us in was very nice, she was at a loss to really do anything accept offer us a room on the second floor stating it was all that was available as the hotel was booked. There was no manager on duty, Saturday evening. When asked the next morning there was still no manager on duty. This guest is completely dissatisfied. Not that it seemed to matter to Kinsey, the young lady at your desk Sunday morning.
Another guest overheard the conversation at the desk Sunday morning and volunteered to me that he had a room on the first floor and that he had not checked in until very late Saturday night. He stated he did not request a 1st floor room. He wondered why they did not just give us a room that someone had not checked into yet. We wonder the same thing too.

Greeted by a very efficient staff, checked in quickly and easily found our room. The room was clean and comfortable and featured a sliding glass "back door" that opened up onto a semi-private courtyard - a VERY nice feature. Good central location. Easy to get to campus either driving or on foot. Easy access to the highway.

Overall the stay was comfortable with amenities that was good value for the money. However, there is no way you can satisfy a vegetarian and someone with muscular dystrophy. The staff and the General manager sent different messages to their guests. That GM must be relocated and retrained to show more sensitivity. The shuttle service is inadequate and is parked 90% of the times outside of operation hours.

Because I am short, the bed was too high for me to get in easily. Fortunately we had a sturdy suitcase which I used for a step stool!
None of the exercise equipment had safety lanyards.

While staying in their establishment for five days and nights I experienced caring and helpful staff. The check in was quick and easy. Parking was never a problem, they had entrances that were convenient. I enjoyed my stay and will be returning.

The staff were all kind, friendly and helpful. My family and I all had a wonderful time. We visited a local tourist attraction at the recommendation of one of the staff and it made our trip even more fun. I am so thankful for the great staff and facility. You can have a beautiful building but if your staff are rude, condescending, or indifferent to the needs of their guests, it will not be a happy experience for the guests.

The accommodations were nice. It was clean and scenic. Very close to VTech.
However, the person at the front desk 3 out of the 4 times I went up there was completely unhelpful. She had no idea what was going on at the hotel and looked at me like a deer in headlights whenever I asked any question. People at the front desk should know about the hotel they work at.
I also was not recognized as a Platinum Elite member.

We walked in from a 6 hr drive and asked for availability. Helen greeted us with a smile and promptly tended to our needs. She gave us a great rate and hooked us up with the breakfast buffet for both mornings we were there. She even showed me a room to assure all my needs we're met, including a microwave, refrigerator, room location and more. We stayed at The Inn at Virginia Tech the third night because we were attending a wedding reception there, and it wasn't even close to being as nice as the Holiday Inn and was more expensive with no fridge, micro, or breakfast included! We were so disappointed and wished we could have cancelled to stay another night at the Holiday Inn. We recommend this hotel for all around great stay! (We did not use the pool, room service, laundry, go to the restaurant or bar) The breakfast buffet was great and included eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, home fries, baked apples, oatmeal, pastries, fruit, juice, coffee, and Belgian waffles you can make yourself! And, we joined the Holiday Inn rewards club (it's free) and it gives you perks like checking out at 2pm instead of the usual 11, and a free night stay after you stay for a certain amount of stays.

Found the location to be very close to the main highway. Front desk service was highlight of stay, although the cold beer and quick service on our evening meal weren't too far off. Great breakfast provided gratis by front desk, but A/C in room turned itself off after several hours of not being used. Both wife and myself sleep best in cooler temps and we were awakened by the rising temperature in the room about 2:00 AM. I reset the A/C once again, and it operated well throughout balance of evening.

I had been staying there for years. Used to be very clean. But over graduation weekend was the worst ever. And one had to commit to three nights. I let them know I would be arriving late which gave plenty of time for room and bath to be cleaned. Nothing was dusted of vacuumed. The beds were made. The next day I spoke to a maid who said she had a lot to do. Our beds were not even made that day. The following day, diff maid. She vacuumed, but still no dusting, etc.. All the front desk said was that they were sorry. I am very unhappy.

I was in Blacksburg for a conference at Virginia Tech. This hotel is right across the street from the convention center next to the campus and there is also a mall and several restaurants nearby, not including the restaurant and bar in the hotel. The beds were very comfortable, the room was spacious and had very nice furnishings, including a large HDTV with dozens of channels. I rode the bus from the airport and got dropped off on the VT campus. The friendly staff sent a shuttle to pick me up after a brief phone call and allowed me to check in early, which was greatly appreciated after 12 hrs of traveling. This is one of the nicest Holiday Inns I have ever stayed at and the staff is top notch.

I reserved a suite and had an evening with friends relaxing in the Babcock Suite. The suite was awesome. How cool that there was a full size refrigerator, a sink, counters, and microwave. The living room was cozy, with windows overlooking the pool. The bedroom was huge with a king size - very comfortable bed, not to mention, the huge shower. I felt so pampered. The staff checking me in was great. Melissa worked with me to have an earlier check in, which I really appreciated and the lady she was training was just as helpful.
I will totally stay there again.

Stayed the weekend of April 12th. Great location right in front of Virginia Tech. Good room. Front desk staff service was superb. Wireless connection is very slow, which can be solved by using LAN; there was no cable available in the room, but was provided by the front desk.
Breakfast was disappointing. The first morning the restaurant ran out of milk at the buffet. The second morning morning there was no buffet; waiting time to be seated was 20 minutes; order came after another 20 minutes; the restaurant ran out of orange juice.
The hotel is fine, but it had issues with things that you take for granted.
