We chose the Holiday Inn as it was one of the few known branded hotels in the town. We have had some disappointing experiences when staying in local European hotels so we decided to play safe for once. The Hotel was everything you would expect of a 4*. The position was perfect, right next to the river and only a few minutes stroll from the old town and square. The Hotel was spotless, the decor was contemporay and well maintained. Our room was lovely, abundance of lighting, modern furnishings, comfortable bed, great size bathroom. Reserving a spot in the underground parking was really useful too.
As advertised the staff spoke great English and were happy to help. My only trip to the front desk was to ask for a bigger duvet which was delivered immediately, we ended up with two. The only tiny disappointment was the TV channels, there is only so much BBC news and sport you can watch.

I planned a long stay of 89 days in this hotel but with a 2 week break in the middle. The first leg of my stay was ok. I was offered a meal package, front desk staff was attentive to my requests and food was generally ok.
My problems started the 2nd leg. Upon returning and checking-in I was informed by a very "smug" Manager that they changed the conditions of the meal package they offered before to less favourable terms and that he can't possible upgrade my room for my long stay. Upgraded rooms are available but he wouldn't just give it. To make things worse certain staff were very rude and the food got worse(burgers were dry and bread seemed old).
We decided to cut short the long stay and move to another hotel which was a very good decision on my part because comparing the 2 hotels I am very much comfortable at present.
Unless something changes my mind I definitely will not consider IHG as my first choice in future business travel needs.
