We booked online at the last minute and cheekily asked if we could have a room with a view. We arrived to be told we had been upgraded. Woke the next morning to see a glorious sunrise over the mountain and beach.
The room was spacious with 2 queen size beds. There is a laundry on floors 3 and 5. Have your coins and laundry powder ready or ask staff at reception to exchange your notes for the required coins.
Any queries we had were answered immediately by friendly and helpful staff.
An issue we had with one course at dinner was satisfactorily resolved.
Staff kindly booked us taxis when required and stored our luggage on our last day when we had a late flight home.
Close to the Esplanade for a lovely stroll.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MicMacPNG Take it easy and breathe in the tropical hospitality
The Holiday Inn Cairns is not in a capital city, although Cairns is indeed the largest city in Far North Queensland (FNQ, as they call it) - where tropical forests abound, the magnificent Great Barrier Reef adorns the margins of the Coral Sea, and rich cultural experiences may be had with the local indigenous people.
Cairns is a small city - an old sugar farming and mining industry town, which has grown to become a most popular travel destination for both domestic and foreign tourists alike in recent decades. In this setting, the Holiday Inn is a dependable venue from which to base one’s visit to FNQ, or to stay a night if passing through Cairns to other parts of Australia. But do not expect any rush in service though, as FNQ is decidedly laid back in culture and style, but take it easy and breathe in the tropical hospitality, which is ever present an friendly.
The hotel has a beautiful large open-air atrium around which its seven stories of rooms are located, with outward city views, mountain, or sea views as one wishes. The garden on the ground floor brings the tropics to your door step with lush tall trees and birds tweeting giving it a very outdoor feel. This is a classic Holiday Inn delivering you a great place to eat and sleep, and from which to get about in a beautiful part of Australia
