Our stay at the Holiday Inn, Cardiff was great. Even though we arrived several hours early it wasn’t a problem. We checked into our 3rd floor room and were delighted that the view directly faced Cardiff Castle!
The room temperature was perfect, bath towels were big and fluffy, and the bed very comfortable, we both got a great sleep. The room itself was slightly smaller than what we’re used to from Holiday Inn, but the use of space was exceedingly economical (the hair dryer is actually mounted in a dresser drawer).
Breakfast buffet was beautifully laid out with a wide variety of items to choose from including – but not limited to – sausage, black pudding, two types of egg, beans, fresh fruit, pancakes, yogurts, forest berry topping, and pastries.
We’d definitely stay again. Well done, Holiday Inn Cardiff!

When arriving at the hotel were greeted in a very friendly manner and treated like a valued customer. Staff in the hotel were polite and very professional. The room was clean and comfortable however the noise from the road outside was intrusive. All in all a good stay in an excellent hotel.

Holiday Inn Cardiff is my hotel of choice when i need to visit Cardiff on business. The hotel location is convenient for the city centre, meaning I can get to work easily and I have plenty of after work options to relax. The hotel itself is well decorated and maintained, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. My room was clean and fresh, and I had a comfortable nights sleep. I ate in the restaurant for this trip, and the food (medium rare rump steak) was good quality, well prepared and tasty. My only gripe for this trip (and this may be directed at IHG rather than HI Cardiff directly) is that a 10% service charge was auto added to my food bill. Whilst the staff were happy to take this off I feel it is unnecessary to add this charge by default. I am a business traveller, and require receipts to claim expenses. My company will not reimburse tips/service charges that appear on food bills. If I receive good service, I will choose to personally tip in cash at my own expense. This also happened recently at another HI, hence why I wonder if it is a new IHG policy?

Very convenient location next to Cardiff Castle and the Millenium Stadium. Only a few minutes' walk to get into the city centre. I was in a standard room which was tiny. Regretted not registering for an upgrade. Furniture was rather worn. My room faced the main road (Castle Street) which made it noisy even with the windows closed. I managed to sleep through the noise but others might not be so lucky. Standard WiFi speed was slow - forget about streaming video! On the plus side, breakfast was tasty with a good selection of items and the bed was comfortable. For the average quality, I thought the room rate offered poor value for money - but due to the high demand around the time of the Super Cup Final, the price was probably inflated.

Normally we mark up excellent for all our stays, but we have had to adjust this time, mainly due to internal noise which greatly affected our stay.
Our first night the noise level until 10pm was dreadful due to other guests, young boys mainly who were above us. Heaven knows what they were doing. Did mention this to the desk in the morning, who were aware of the problem. The next night was better, but still more noise than I would consider acceptable.
The one item of room comfort was a bulb not working in the room, which we had rectified after the first day.
We still enjoyed our stay, appreciate the noise was not the hotel fault.
We are staying a weekend at the Holiday Inn at Gloucester on the 22nd August and will return to Cardiff soon.
