Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel "bathroom fan needs to be addressed" We stayed at your hotel for our sons graduation from the Navy Nuclear School in Goose Creek. We were greeted by your friendly front desk people and they were extremely knowledgable. Helped us with finding our way around downtown Charleston. The trolley service was fantastic. Our room was very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. I have had 5 back surgeries and have trouble sleeping in hotels but not here. Slept like a baby. The breakfast was very good. Biscuits & gravy were the best. The only thing that needs to be addressed is the exhaust fan in the bathroom. Very noisy and could not be turned off without turning the light off. Other than that we had a great time and love your city. December 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location Great location, great value for this close to downtown. You can take the trolley downtown or short drive down Lockwood and park. Staff is excellent. Rooms are great. Breakfast very good, cinnamon rolls excellent! It is a much better deal cost wise than other places this close to downtown Charleston. Much better value than the regular Holiday Inn and no mandatory parking charge. Near the Ashley River, the marina, and a park. Good place!!! December 16, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Room We stayed at this location 1 night. Everything was fine but would be better if there was a light outside of the mirrored closet doors so you could see in the mirrors better. A second luggage rack would have also been helpful. December 11, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay The staff was beyond helpful with our accommodations, late arrival and late check out. The room was clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting downtown Charleston December 4, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Family Thanksgiving Stay We stayed for 3 nights. The room was ´ample, clean, with 2 double beds as booked, with river view´ as a bonus. The bathroom was rather small, but, I´d rather have a large sleeproom than bathroom. Plus, when towels were left hanging (you know, supposedly the sign they need not to be changed), they were not changed indeed (quite exceptional). Beds were very comfy (nice!). The welcome upon arrival as ´IHG reward member (although receptionist was more than busy) - after a long drive from Richmond area - was really pleasant and a good omen and start. Breakfast room was large enough thanks to ´overflow´ room, with once more pleasant staff (daily requests for hot chocolate drinks for the kids were granted without fuzz). Customers were quite disciplined and well-behaved as well, which helps :-) . Location was very good, with an unexpected Charleston public shuttle just in front of the hotel. Location is also great if you plan to visit the plantations (a must) as the hotel is just at the bridge leading to it. Parking was never a problem. Oh yes, the outdoor pool might be a bit chilly in winter time, but you can try (it´s open). Finally, Wifi-signal is strong enough in the room, and so was the coffee and tea. December 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One night stay The hotel was used as a layover for our cruise the next day. It was a couple minutes drive from the historic district. I was told that there was a free bus service that took you to the historic district also, but we did not use it. Everything was clean and fresh. In addition, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the area. It was nice to see that the parking, breakfast and business center were included at no additional fee. December 2, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Business/Quick Overnight Hotel Great, clean hotel for a quick overnighter - Not walking distance to much so if you are looking for a more touristy hotel I wouldn't recommend this location, but it was a great price and great breakfast. Very friendly staff. December 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent overall, great service, staff and location! This was the third HI Express we stayed in on this trip. We were most pleased with the location and the convenient free nearby tram service to the old town. The staff, service, hotel cleanlines were excellent. The scrambled eggs at breakfast were the best we have experienced in any HI hotel we stayed in. Kudos to the person(s) who prepared them - Carolyn, Elaine & Janni, I think? One minor point, we found the heater/air conditioner unit a bit noisy and running frequently with brief interludes. November 29, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel Needs Updating Room was sad. Bed was very high off the floor. Parts were missing on the door jambs. Could not close the door on closet as it was not deep enough to accommodate clothes on hangars. Floor was uneven due to settling. Need I say more? November 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice room Room was very nice and clean. Plenty of towels and washcloths which is not always the case in other places we have stayed. My only complain is that the mattress was way too hard for me. The staff gave us an excellent tip for a restaurant which was fabulous. We would stay here again. November 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Staff The staff was great. The front desk was helpful from everything concerning take out food, to how to handle the free trolley. The breakfast staff was really helpful. I left my purse on the back of my chair and Mike found it before anyone else did and that saved me a lot of headache. Thanks again to Mike, Robin and Carolyn for helping make my Charleston visit a good one. November 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comforts of Home We had to stay in Chareston due to family being at MUSC. Unfortuntely we had to stay many weeks. Holiday Inn worked with us and was very gracious. The staff recognized us and always spoke and ask how are family member was doing. It was clean, close to the hospital. I would recommend the hotel for it's comfort and staff. November 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay This was probably the cleanest chain hotel I have ever stayed in. November 20, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Staff service and helpfulness. Helpful staff during a very busy weekend. Could not have asked for a better time. November 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Visit Great hotel close to the Citadel! Enjoyed our visit tremendously. November 18, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly service Hotel staff was extremely friendly and happy - Harrison at the front desk and housekeeper, as well as breakfast staff - all seem happy to be at work; room was large with mini fridge, king bed, table/chairs; comfortable; nice stay; took free shuttle on President's street to explore Charleston, walked back to hotel - a little far to walk on busy street so shuttle better alternative November 17, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed Would never stay there again. They said it was brand new and that wasn't true. It was an old hotel that was redone. Very disappointed. November 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean hotel and wonderful staff Had a wonderful experience in Charleston...and staying at the Holiday Inn was a perfect choice...Now only was it reasonable but it was clean; excellent staff and a good breakfast..I loved the pancakes.. November 14, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Need to finish upgrades This was an old hotel that was refurbished when it became HIE and some older things remain. It is way overpriced for what it is. My closet doors wouldn't close. The popcorn walls and ceilings look bad. November 10, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice, but . . . The hotel is nice, but nothing to great. The best thing to say it has a good location on the main Charleston peninsula, but if you are willing to drive an extra five miles, you can get better rooms for a better price. November 6, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Close to The Citadel The proximity to The Citadel was very convenient for our weekend full of activities. Was very disappointed in the quality of the hotel for a Holiday Inn. Our fan in the bathroom spewed dust every time we turned it on; it cost $2/load to wash or dry with only one washer; breakfast foods were not fresh. We visit Charleston on a regular basis and prefer to have a suite where we have space. Do not plan to stay at this particular hotel again. November 6, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay, Excellent location for value. Our four night stay at The Ashley River Holiday Inn Express was great. Finding a location close to or in the Historic Charleston area for a reasonable rate was proving to be a challenge but this in a good location not even 10 mins from the sights, shopping, and restaurants. Clean, and comfortable, as well as the staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again when visiting Charleston. November 2, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by cold no one noticed that i was Platinum. i was using point but they should have acknowledged it. AC unit was right by the head of the bed and blew too much cold air on you. November 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by expectations First of all, I only stayed one night in the hotel and my overall experience in sum is guite good. Nice room and everything was very clean. Also it was my first night in a hotel in the usa at all. But there was one thing I was missing, a bigger variety of breakfast choices. I'm a guy from Germany and if you are going to Germany and stay in a hotel there you can expect more for the same value. October 31, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CHARLESTON HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS - EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS Location was awesome, allowing us access to all of Charleston with easy on/easy off. Beds incredible - felt like sleeping on a cloud! Staff professional, friendly. Office facilities in-house exceptional. Will always return to this hotel when in Charleston for their all-around best in class!! October 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT LOCATION AND PLACE TO STAY Accomodations were great! The suite made our stay alot more comfortable because of the two large rooms. We were able to have appetizers and dinner foods delivered right to our room, as we had a nice dining table for two to set up everything. The only problems we encountered were the Safe in the closet was broken and the mechanics were unable to fix the problem and the couch was quite uncomfortable. Looked like it needed to be replaced with a more up to date couch. I would highly recommend this location.!!!!! October 29, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by 1st floor The room was small and smelled musty. The mattress was lumpy. October 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great experience! Everyone was so hospitable and helpful. The rooms were great and the breakfast very good. I highly recommend this hotel. We were able to catch the shuttle to get downtown very easily, I would stay here again if visit in the future. October 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy access to Historic Charleston This hotel has been remodeled in February 2013/ The room and bed were great and very comfortable. The bathroom had a shower=no tub, which we prefer, but it was a little dated, not too bad. The FREE shuttle to all parts of Charleston made this location a no brainer. The shuttle drivers were very courteous and helpful. The front desk staff was more than helpful. We stayed two nights. The price was about $100 less than staying in Historic Charleston and very convenient to everything we wanted to do October 26, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Too far away from tourist activities Although the staff of this hotel was very professional, we were disappointed in the location. We booked on line, and I even reread the description to make sure I had not misunderstood. It sounded like it was right downtown and close to historic Charleston. Just because a hotel is on the peninsula does not mean it is near the historic center! We were also disappointed in our tiny, tiny room. The bathroom was incredibly small also and in dire need of remodeling. Fortunately we were able to move to the Holiday Inn in downtown Savannah -- a beautiful new facility. We were shocked to discover that we had paid more for our night in the Ashley River Holiday Inn Express, than we paid per night in the convenient new facility. October 25, 2013
