Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by quite a surprise ! I didn't have high expectations for my stay @ this property. It is an older building, has been through a couple of ownership/hotel chain changes. From the outside, it looks much as it did when I was a student @ UVa in the 1980s. This is still not a fancy hotel by any means, but it was so comfortable & clean & the staff (especially the front desk!) was so helpful & kind, that these transformed my stay. Great location. Ask for a room on the back (facing a quiet neighborhood) if traffic noise a concern. I needed a few more hangers. Housekeeper couldn't figure out how to get them on the rail. Fixed hangers are inconvenient. Also, there was no conditioner left w/shampoo. When I asked for one, the housekeeper said she didn't have any --- but didn't volunteer to find one. April 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service, Good Happy Hour I'd like to give a special shout-out to van driver Glenn. He was curb side waiting for us when we walked out of the airport and we didn't have to wait at all for the shuttle to arrive. On the drive back to the hotel, he provided us with all sorts of info about places to eat around the hotel, as well as some of the touristy sites in the area like Monticello and Ash Lawn. Here is a guy that is proud of his city and his region, and I really got good vibes from him. I really appreciated his level of service and making us feel like valued customers. I also highly enjoyed the Happy Hour 1/2 price appetizer specials from 5-7pm in the bar. The buffalo wings were delicious! I just wish the drink specials extended also to mixed drinks and wine, and not just beer (according to the sign in front of the restaurant). Regardless though, I had a very pleasant stay. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Uncomfortable room This is the first time I stayed at a holiday inn that was so nasty. The room i stayed long strnds of hair located throught the room to incle the bathroom. I went to take a shower, the shower mat was not sealed withing the tub. As i ran the water, dirt rising from underneath the shower mat. I will choose my hotel carefully while driving on the highways. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice room The room I was given was a king bed room with a small kitchen sort of area. I was a really nice room and I almost wished I was staying more than one night. The only complaint was that the walls are pretty thin and I could hear the person in the next room and the people in the parking lot. I have stayed at this location previously and both of my stays have been nice and the staff were pretty friendly. Afternoon staff are a little nice than the morning staff are though. The wait staff in the restaurant have been nice also. I would recommend this location if you are staying the Charlottesville area. March 31, 2013

Very enjoyable bar to watch a ball game after a hard days work. The bartender was a pleasure to talk to and actually grew up near my hometown. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. The main drawback was no complimentary breakfast. I did not notice that when I booked the room; I might have chosen a different hotel. Almost all hotels I stay at have complimentary breakfast. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Clean room comfortable bed The important aspects of a hotel stay for me are clean room, comfortable bed and wifi available (free preferrably). Other amenities are nice but not essential. I did use the workout room in the am, and it was small but functional. Indoor pool and towels provided. There was a lounge and restaurant which is nice for business travelers, but we came to tour UVA in the am, so we dined in downtown Charlottesville. The breakfast menu was extensive-all dietary needs covered, but again, we did not take advantage. Easy, quick drive to UVA. Only downside was surly front desk clerk-happily we had a reservation so his derision was not directed at us, but folks coming in or calling to inquire of room availability received the same rude response complete with eye-rolling. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Service, and as usual perfect beds My daughter and I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and the first night we checked in after a long flight from San Diego we were greeted by 2 wonderful ladies, I wish I had noted their names, but it was on 2/16/13. One in particular was just amazing. She was friendly, caring and took great care of us. She was able to help with finding us somewhere to eat and took the time to explain how to get there also. Thank you Holiday Inn for always taking care of us. We stayed at 5 different Holiday Inns on our 7 day college visit trip and they were all great. February 24, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Overall experience I had a number of issues: 1. Sink faucet handle was extremely loose and almost fell off. Let note to fix, but was not done. 2. Bath drain was very poor, left note to fix and was taken care of. 3. Was unable to get Fox local TV channel (had an important program I wanted to watch). 4. Door lock (metal bar) was broken and screws almost out of the door facing. I had to mention this two different days before it was replaced. 5. Waited in the restaurant until almost 7:10 one morning and ended up leaving as there was no staff around. February 20, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice facility, staff not helpful I was disappointed. The room was nice and I was suprised to have a full sized fridge. I bought some items to put in the fridge. There were no plates or silverware. I went to the front desk and they sent me to the bar. They gave me a plate the size of a saucer and a spork. I asked if I could get a full sized plate and they said they did not have any available, even though someone at the bar was eating a meal off a full sized plate. I put a note in my room asking for silverware the next day and never got any. I asked at the front desk and actually met resistence. Great facility, but customer service was lacking. Would give it another chance since the hotel was comfortable. December 17, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Hotel We always stay here when we visit our daughter and her family . We were a bit disappointed in the window dressings this visit. The sheers under the drapes were very very wrinkled, as if they sat for a long period in the dryer. Unappealing yes, but would not hinder me from booking there again. Also the traffic on Emmit street was noisy all night long. I will request a room not facing the highway next time we stay. Overall we love this hotel. December 2, 2012

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Usual reliable experience with one glitch This was our first visit to the HI Express in Charlottesville, but we have stayed in many others and they are reliably clean, comfortable, and quiet--as was this stay. We had one problem in that we ordered a movie and it could not be delivered to our television due to a bad cable. We called the front desk and they responded promptly, but they were not able to fix it and by the time the cable repair person showed up it was too late (after 9pm) and we told them to forget about it. They credited our account with no problem. The only other comment is that this was a football weekend in Charlottesville, for the University. I know hotels can charge more on weekends of high demand, but we paid more than $200 a night. That is steep for a Holiday Inn, no matter what. October 26, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Above Average, Need to Work on Some Things When I checked in, one light did not work and the toilet seat would not stay when raised. They only fixed the light, so toilet seat remained deficient. Obviously inconvenient to have to use two hands while standing up to use the toilet. One morning the maid was going around to all the doors and knocking asking if we needed service. The walls are thin and you can hear conversations in the next room. No dental floss at the front desk No apparent benefit to being Priority Club. October 25, 2012

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Management Failure The stay started off rocky. I got to the airport and what was suppose to be 15 minute wait for shuttle turned into almost 11/2 hours. When I got to the hotel I found out that the resteraunt does not open for lunch nor does room service one of the reasons I choice this hotel, had to walk to find something to eat. Each evening meal was in the bar area because the resteraunt area does not open for dinner. Each night the bar was full and only one bartender who also served the tables and took dinner orders. The staff was freindly and helpful but are over worked in some areas. Management is to blame for not having resteraunt open and staffed with a full hotel. If you are counting on not renting a car and meals at the hotel find somewhere else. October 24, 2012

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good, but thin walls We liked our stay at the Holiday Inn Charlottesville but a few things could have been better. Firstly, our check in by Shannon was luke warm. He didn't like my presence or custom and should have been more welcoming. During the night our neighbour in the next room snored a lot. It woke us up so we didn't appreciate the thin walls. I would not return to this property due to this. The breakfast the next morning was a pleasant experience. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. The concierge David was extremely helpful to us. So were the ladies at the front desk. The men, though were hopelessl. October 12, 2012
