Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really pleasant stay Stayed in an executive room, excellent facilities and service. The free wifi for gold members was very welcome. Booked bed and breakfast only and decided to eat in the hotel dining room. The steak was the best I have ever had in a hotel. The dining room did feel a bit bare and lacked atmosphere. Great having the swimming pool. August 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel This is one of the nicest hotels we've stayed in. Very clean in every room we ventured into. It doesn't look much from the outside but was lovely on the inside. The room had everything we needed for our stay. We bought the Chester zoo package which was fantastic value. The staff were friendly and polite. We would definitely stay here again. All Holiday Inns should be like this one. August 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Another great stay We booked a late zoo DBB deal which was okay but the menu was a bit limited. I never undertand why hotels can not provide drinks at reasonable prices. This is not our first stay and love the location of this hotel for easy access to the City/Zoo and Cheshire Oaks. Our family room was okay but in need of some care and attention. All staff were helpful and very attentive which made the stay more memorable than previous visits here. July 27, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice room Enjoyed this hotel very much. The good thing was good parking and had a local bus stop right outside the hotel which takes you right into centre of chester in 5 mins. The bar lacked a little bit of atmosphere somehow. Would have been nice to have some low music for example for evening time. So we went out for most of evening. The only waiter in the bar was so hard working but he could have done with some help as he had to do everything. Felt sorry for him. But good hotel and would recommend. July 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Chester 2013 I have stayed at Holiday Inns all over Europe and this location is by far my favourite. The facilities are good rooms are fine but what really makes this place stand out is the friendliness of the staff who realy make an effort and make the place feel like home. July 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent staff Hotel staff from reception to bar staff spa staff an absolute credit. The hotel was very nice with every thing we would want except for the extortionate price of wi fi. An absolute disgrace for charging £16.99 for 24 hours especially when the hotel is out of town and communication for transport etc. is needed and mobile phone signals are very bad as well.the price per night goes up on race nights the same as everywhere else so would be better value if you go out with horse racing times July 20, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exceptionally friendly staff On arrival at reception, my platinum status was noted and I was upgraded to an executive room which, despite being a long way from reception, was in a very quiet part of the hotel. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and explained the options for travelling into the city centre. Breakfast (a bit expensive but cheaper if you buy a voucher the day before) was very good - plenty of choice and stocks were constantly being replenished. Nice to see a pancake machine! July 18, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice peaceful stay We really enjoyed being out of town and seeing a rural view of grass and trees outside our window. The hotel is on a busy main road but we had no problems with traffic noise at the back. The bus service into Chester from outside the hotel is frequent and seems reliable. The gym and pool were excellent. The hotel looks a little run down from the outside, but the rooms were large and comfortable and the public areas were a good standard. Staff were extremely helpful and courteous. July 18, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean comfortable and good food Whilst not the most modern of hotels it is clean and comfortable with plenty of free parking. Despite being busy we were not disturbed in our room by noise from other guests. We only ate breakfasts but they were of good quality and plenty of it if required. It was noticeable how pleasant and courteous the staff were - nothing was too much trouble. This included waiting staff, house keeping and front desk. The hotel is located within a few minutes of the Park and Ride which is a real asset and it only takes about 10 minutes before you are in the City. This would be our first choice if staying there again. July 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent value Used the hotel for a weekend visit. Good sized and clean room. Breakfast was the big surprise - full English available in a nicely laid out restaurant. All staff friendly and welcoming. Used the bus service across the road to get into Chester. Modern buses with computer screen advising stops. Well recommended July 12, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by great staff comfortable rooms my partner and I stayed for 2 nights for the races and a day of shopping. our room was on the main corridor and the first night was great however on the Saturday night it appeared to be lots of gangs of men far to drunk and we heard everyone of them return that night. after listening to the party in the room above us for 45 mins at 3am, I buzzed down to the desk. it was dealt with quickly by the staff but we lay awake listening to the man above us throw up till 5am! overall hotel needs thicker walls and ceilings as this did taint our visit but the staff and cleanliness of the hotel where first class. I work in the hospitality industry for a living so really look forward to my down time to relax and get a good nights sleep. unfortunately this visit didn't provide that. July 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Really Nice Hotel Rooms The Hotel room I stayed in was very spacious. Really liked it from my earlier stay and the staff was able to get me the same hotel room when requested. The only down fall was that the staff has not changed the sheets when they made the bed. July 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overnight Stay First time I've stayed at this hotel, asked for quiet room and was given one on ground floor, not disturbed on a Friday night during a Chester Race weekend so great. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Overall good stay, that said £10 for cold breakfast and £17 for hot buffet too expensive so didn't have. July 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent place to stay when visiting Chester We were visiting for an event at the Chester Racecourse. When we arrived at the hotel, the best news was that there was a pool free to use to guests. Other than that, there was a really lovely bar and restaurant available. Our room was perfect and the beds were very comfortable. The location isn't very close to the town centre, but it felt like we were in a little retreat in the mountains because it was so quiet at night--no pub noise! Neither of us drive, but there is a bus (Number 1 on Arriva) that runs every 10-15 minutes to from Wrexham to Chester. (An average taxi price from town to the hotel is about £7 if it's too late in the day for the bus timetable.) June 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Long walk to the room A good example of the Holiday Inn brand, but this particular hotel layout is far from compact. Some rooms are along march from reception along uninspiring corridors. Probably as a result of extension. Rooms are comfortable once you are there however. June 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nothing is too much trouble!! Enjoyed a great stay, ate from the bar menu which was delicious. Wonderful staff, nothing was too much trouble! June 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value and in the right place My wife and I had a nice short break at Chester South. From booking to check out staff could not help enough. Only had room and breakfast, the food and staff where great. Only two things that let the break down where that you could hear guest in the next room. the other was that when we went to use the pool it was closed due to a class being held. Maybe we should have looked before or maybe things like that should be pointed out. Overall we had a great stay and will be booking again to take the children. If you are thinking of going into Chester when staying, i would use the P&R just up the road from the hotel. Thanks again to all the staff. June 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Hotel with Everything-Comfy Room and Excellent Staff We had a wonderful time everything was perfect-the room, staff, food and cleanliness. I want to compliment the hotel on the excellent customer service. We were made to feel very welcome from the staff on the reception the waiters and waitresses on the bar and working the ones working in the restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble. Also the food was excellent every meal was perfect. Thank you all my husband and I had a wonderful time and would consider visiting again in the near future. June 15, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lack of Care and attention During the booking in process I requested an upgrade to the B & B tariff and the receptionist said that it had been done. The following morning I was informed that I had not been upgraded and needed to pay for my Breakfast, In front of other Visitors I was made to feel as if I was attempting to cheat the Hotel. An other Holiday Inn that does not have free WIFI this is the 21 century and as I was on a 10 day trip booking as I went I changed my travel plans, to ensure that I could book ahead June 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by We Love This Hotel ! As a family of four we have stayed at this hotel numerous times on our weekend or half term breaks to Chester .It is consistantly great value especially D,B&B and offers great service from friendly and helpful staff. They also offer a good Chester Zoo deal. The pool is a big bonus, clean and very popular with our children. Rooms offer lots of space with plenty of room for four (unlike certain other more expensive branded hotels) , there's a garden area to sit out in, the bar is a nice place to chillax (though the bar menu is expensive !), the staff are excellent and very chirpy and the food at breakfast and dinner in the restaurant was of excellent quality. There's no need to drive into Chester as the very popular 'park and ride' is just over the road (worth driving over to it though). In short...We'll be back !! June 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Good Stay Good value. Reasonable sized room with good facilities. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Excellent breakfast. Convenient for Chester park & ride. Enjoyed our stay (2 nights) May 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dont be put off by the 1980's exterior this is a great place to stay Nice clean rooms, faultless service from friendly helpful staff and a great breakfast. From the outside the look is decidedly from the 70's - 80's, but inside all is well. It is a clean and well presented hotel inside and the staff couldn't do enough to help. Breakfast is a joy and the staff there were clearly proud of the offering and their hotel - it showed ! Rooms are clean and theres a nice large flat screen TV with Freeview HD - if you need it. Beds are great and the bed linen too. Can't fault this hotel and we will be back. Parking is free. May 20, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Spacious rooms with all amenities and great food. We stayed three nights at Holiday Inn Chester South at May Bank Holiday. We were going to a British Super Bike Meeting at Oulton Park and chose somewhere nearby to stay. We were so lucky to have chosen the Holiday Inn as we could not fault it in any way. Well done to everyone there. J. Barker May 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff and good food I stayed at Holiday Inn Chester South for 2 nights on business recently. The outside of the hotel was not very inspiring but once inside, I couldn't fault my stay. Some parts need a bit of a facelift but this did not spoil things for me. The staff throughout the hotel, from check-in to bar and restaurant, were very polite and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they made me feel like a valued guest. My room was very nice and quiet. It was larger than usual with a sofa, which was a pleasant surprise. Bed was comfortable. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and I was pleased to have a bath and shower. The only issue was a large crack in the sink. The food was much better quality than I expected (perfectly cooked rare steak) and really good value. There was a large selection of drinks which were a little expensive but that isn't unusual for hotels. The bar also had buffets - indian and mexican - and although I didn't sample these, they seemed popular. Would definitely return here when next in the area. May 10, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect place to spend the weekend on a Special Occasion We celebrated my 70th Birthday at the Holiday Inn at Chester South. The hotel is just out of the city walls on the Wrexham Road. If you have a car it is best to leave it at the hotel and take the Park & Ride bus into the city. It only takes 5 minutes to walk to the P & R park. Chester is one of the most beautiful cities in England and we spent all day on the Saturday site seeing. The weather was perfect sunny & warm, we even found time to take a boat trip on the river. We returned to the hotel and had a delightful Dinner. Our party consisted of 10 people and the staff had prepared a table specially for our party. The Food was excellent and the service superb. Will visit this hotel again soon. April 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great family room and lovely staff We only stayed for one night bed and breakfast. The staff were very helpfull, nothing was too much trouble. Room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable We used the resturant for ease and were very surprised by the quality of the food and the service The breakfast menu was also very varied to suit all needs. The Resturant staff need an extra mention (front and back of house) as nothing was too much trouble. They were cheerie, chatty and obviously happy to be there. We would recommend this Holiday Inn to anyonevisiting Chester April 21, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by great room shame about the hen/stag parties We stayed as a family for one night and were really pleased with the room we were in, we had asked for a room in a quiet part of the hotel and it was on the whole. The room was great, the bed was comfortable and everything was clean and well laid out. The downside though was as soon as we arrived we were confronted with a stag do with young guys running around the bar area and later when we returned from an evening out looking forward to a quiet drink in the bar, there was a hen party going on in the bar. It was a Saturday night to be fair, but we would have liked to enjoy using the bar too, without large groups of noisy young people. Surely these events could have been accommodated in a separate function room? We had our daughter aged 10 years with us and really didn't want to have to listen to some of the language, as well as not being able to hear yourself speak. Before I forget I must mention that breakfast was very good and my daughter enjoyed the pancakes. The food and beverage scoring was done on our experience of the bar, not of breakfast. April 15, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overnight Stay We had a very comfortable overnight stay with an excellent breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be with the difficulty in the initial booking which was no fault of the staff at the Holiday Inn at Chester. My initial attemt to book my stay by telephone was directed through a centralised booking service which was hopeless. Eventually I found a direct line to the Holiday Inn Chester (not easy) and they dealt with my booking directly and very well. April 15, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by One night stay From check in to check out the hotels staff were A1. Room was clean and spacious for an over night stay. Bar prices are a little steep but you expect this in a hotel. April 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Customer Service On arrival the Reception Staff couldn't have been more welcoming even taking the time to talk to our Grand daughter and her pink singing teddy! The Restaurant staff again were super and very helpful. Excellent overall and that's why we keep coming back. April 11, 2013
