Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant Surprise Not the typical Holiday Inn. Next to the Merchandise Mart, adjoins through a bridge walk, so it's a little more modern and "funky" than others. Very clean, nice room, good stay for business. Exercise room TVs not the easiest to use, but that's a minor issue. The equipment itself is in good condition and there are plenty of bikes and treadmills. Nice view of the river and Loop area. October 27, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value and Location I didn't spend an overwhelming amount of time in the hotel as I was in Chicago for a conference offsite, but what time I did spend there was very relaxing. The room was very comfortable and clean, and the staff was very attentive with any questions or needs that I had. The location was great based on where I needed to be for my conference on N. Wacker. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Need to upgrade rooms, replace dressers (handles missing) The rooms were adequate, but very old. Heaters were very noisy. The restaurant food wasn't very good. I tried both the breakfast and dinner and was very disappointed. The turkey sausage tasted spoiled and the fruit bowl had minced fruit. The chicken dish was horrible. The jasmine rice was gummy. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Stay! Excellent stay this past week at the Holiday Inn in Chicago! Great view of the river and can't say enough about the adequate and big breakfast I ordered! The staff was nice and helpful! October 26, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Glad to stay here for the Marathon I booked a room at this hotel through the event lodging site for the Cjicago Marathon. It's a great location downtown, nice views and very convenient to travel within the city as the transit station is in connected to the building.I wish that the hotel would: 1. Make arrangements for an early breakfast for marathon runners - it was the reason a large number of guests were staying there. 2. Inform diners at ItaliAsia, the restaurant on site, that there isa buffet behind the screen 3. Improve the service at Itali Asia -we had a long wait before someone took our orders and even longer for the food to arrive. The room was well appointed and the beds good for a night's rest. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Will visit again My daughter booked a block of rooms for her wedding, so I originally stayed at this location for that reason alone. However, I would most certainly stay here again. Although I did not feel the check-in staff was very friendly, I have nothing but praise for everyone else we dealt with during our visit. A special "thank you" to the gentleman in the bar who gave my husband a glass of ginger ale for him to take to me in the room the night I was not feeling well. My husband could not find ginger ale in the vending machines, and this man was nice enough to give him some free of charge just to help me out. The bell captain was very helpful when it came to securing cabs, and the baggage attendants gave us great directions to use the short cut over to the merchandise mart. By the way, our room was very clean which is a big thing for me. Thanks again for a great stay. October 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Slept well and ate well, too! The accomodations were perfect for a long weekend stay, even with the Hotel hosting many who attended the Chicago Marathon. Hightly recommend this hotel for it staff and facilities. October 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great view! Stayed for the weekend on leisure with my wife. We got a King room with a view. It was hard to see exactly what this room looked like on the internet prior to our stay, but it ended up being a great room. It was a corner room with continuous windows on the entire exterior of the room. Room was pretty spacious and the bathroom design was unique which made it cool. Our only complaint was that the bed wasn't a pillow top which many hotels have gone to, but it was still pretty comfortable. We purchased a couple weeks ahead of time and it was advertised as a discounted parking purchase. It was kind of vague as to what that meant, but when we checked in they comped both nights of valet parking. Not sure what was going on in Chicago that weekend as rooms at all hotels were scarce and more expensive than normal, but this was not unique to this hotel. The hotel bar was very nice, on the quiet side, so if you like a louder party atmosphere type of bar, this isn't it. We actually at dinner there on Saturday night because we had walked all day and didn't want to go far. My wife wanted a Margherita Pizza and after searching the internet for a nearby restaurant with that on the menu for about 30 minutes we decided to give up and just go walking. On the way down I suggested we stop into the bar and check the menu. Guess what, Margherita Pizza, so we decided to stay and eat there. My wife felt guilty just staying at the hotel instead of venturing out, but after factoring in how tired we were, how loud and busy the restaurant on Friday night was, and my feelings that I would actually feel guilty if we stayed the whole weekend and never went to that bar(awesome views from the bar as well), it made sense. Food was delicious, dinner was quiet, and we didn't have to walk the streets.(Plus the football game was on a tv right in front of me as an added bonus) We also had the breakfast buffet on Saturday morning. It was above average for what you should expect for buffet food. Seemed a little pricey, but nothing in Chicago is cheap so I guess that's par for the course. All in all it was a good stay. Had a minor problem with the TV that maintenance fixed quickly and the staff was friendly for the most part. Only when I called down about the TV did the girl who answered sound a little grumpy but everyone else we encountered was very friendly. October 23, 2014
