We spent two nights and found the hotel very comfortable. Bedding was excellent, pillows were numerous and of varying softness (labelled as such). We did not take advantage of the pool or fitness center but both looked quite adequate. View was excellent from our room as well as from the bar. We had a late-night dinner at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Amount and quality was just right. The hotel's proximity to the train line was an added bonus. Will definitely stay there again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Deeker Great view; helpful staff
I stayed a week while assisting my daughter post surgery. The staff was helpful & friendly, and responded quickly to any problem. When we discovered construction work above our room, they graciously moved us to a higher floor.
We enjoyed a great view of the Chicago River and Willis Tower. Even on floor 23, we could hear the El Train at night, but keeping the fan on continuous blow minimized that. We had no siren or street noise--rare for Chicago Loop.
A bonus for us: easy access to the CTA through the Merchandise Mart, plus the food court. I could bring in food without getting out in the snow and cold.
I would gladly stay here again.

We have stayed here a few times when visiting our son in Chicago. This is a nice hotel with great views overlooking the Chicago River. The location is just west of the shopping on Michigan Avenue and is within walking distance if you don't mind walking several blocks. Taxis don't ever seem to be a problem, so it is easy to catch one if you don't want to walk and there is a L stop at Merchandise Mart. There is a small food court attached to the Mart too. The best kept secret of this hotel is the bar located on the 15th floor of the building which is also the lobby of the hotel. What a nice view of the city from the bar, no need to go to the top of the Hancock Tower for a view. We will be staying at this hotel again on future trips to Chicago!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ElayneN Stunning hotel with fabulous views and supreme comfort
This is my hotel of choice in Chicago whether traveling for business or leisure. The customer service and friendliness of all staff is consistent and of the highest level. There is nothing more one could wish for in a hotel: beautiful lobby and wonderfully decorated large rooms. The views are spectacular and the bar offers one of the nicest spots in all of Chicago with a corner skyline view.
I’ve probably stayed here for more than 50 nights in the last several years and hosted meetings, a wedding party and recommended it to my friends. Delivery of impeccable service is the norm coupled with terrific value.
Location is enormously convenient – close to trains and the CTA is in the building adjacent. Parking is onsite.
Management has been extremely helpful and it is a joy just to arrive at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza . Best deal in Chicago for a gorgeous hotel at great rates

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Nothanku Guard your belongings!
We stayed at this hotel for a wedding on February 9th. The whole check-in/drop off is very odd as the lobby is on the 15th floor and parking is below the main level, so it's not easy to drop off your belongings and check in because you are not allowed to leave your vehicle in that area.
The hotel seems to have beautiful views of the city regardless of where you are, however our room was one of the smallest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. Furniture seems rather beat up and when you sat on the beds, you felt like you were going to hit the floor. Definitely not the quality I'm accustomed to.
About an hour or two into our drive home we realized that we had left a brand new cell phone and charger (still in the box) in the room. We immediately called the hotel and they assured us that the room had not yet been cleaned, but when the housekeeping staff went to check on it, it wasn't there. Clearly noone had access to that room other than hotel staff and we are 100% positive that it was left and knew exactly where it was in the room. I've left things behind in other hotel rooms and have always been successful in recovering them. Unfortunately my son's Ipod was stolen in the lobby only 2 hours before all of this took place. The only thing worse than dishonest people are people who steal and the hotel's "who cares" attitude is unsettling to me. I would not return to this hotel.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Missyt25 Terrible Experience
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza for work for two nights and it was a terrible experience. The hotel was under construction but they failed to notify me of this when I made the reservation. Throughout the day as I was trying to work in my room I had to endure drilling, pounding and shouting from the floors below. The room was literally shaking. I woke up one morning at 5:30 am to drilling two floors below.
Additionally, despite being gone from the hotel one day from 8 am to 3 pm I returned to find my room still not cleaned and no sign of housekeeping on my floor.
All in all I found this hotel to be uncomfortable, loud, disorderly and a terrible value for money. Will never stay there again.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by angryFruit Awful week!
Starting with 5 stars, I am subtracting 1 for the noise. If you are a hotel under construction, do not let the construction start at 5 am! The noise was ridiculous, good luck sleeping.
I am subtracting another star for the quality of the room. The toilet ran all night. The shower didn't spray, it was a waterfall out of the faucet. The drain in the bathtub was sticking soo far out of the tub bottom that I tripped over it trying to shower. The heater was soo loud that if you wanted to sleep, you had to turn it off.
After the first night of being there, I asked for a different room for the above reasons. I was told they couldn't move me away from the noise because of the type of room I payed for! Ridiculous! Well after enough yelling them moved me above the noise, but the quality of the room was still just as bad.
I am extremely disappointed in the quality of this hotel, and myself as well as the other 28 people that stayed here during this week will NEVER be back again.

I was assigned a room near the service elevator which was very disappointing, it would have been nice if I was given this information at check in. Each morning I was woken up by the noise.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RSHous Great experience, location, accommodations
I stayed three days/two nights at this location in late January, on a business-related stay. The location was central to both business and night life. And some shopping, of course. The facilities were under renovation, and it was clear that my room had already been updated. Great modern lines, stainless steel fixtures, appropriate colors and lighting.
The only downside to staying at this particular time (late January, 2013) was the smell and sound of paint, caulk, carpeting, etc. Gave me a headache, but didn't kill me. Apparently, I'm easy to please.

If you are at the Chicago Mart and doing a Trade Show this is the most convenient place to stay. Only suggestion is that the restaurant in the hotel is expensive . There are many better choices in the mart for your meals.

I didn't expect such amazing service from a Holiday Inn, but the staff was very friendly and well-mannered, the room service was delicious, and the view from the room was beautiful. I only wish the rooms had a refrigerator, but other than that I loved it! I would definitely stay there if I returned to Chicago.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by RC91765 A/C too loud, Shower too weak
Stayed here last week during a trade show in Jan. The A/C noise is too loud and turns off and on every 20 min when temp is set to 73 degree, wakes me up at night. The shower is too weak, takes a long time to get clean. Other than that, room is clean, view is good, service is good.

I have stayed at this hotel twice now. The staff was friendly both times, the room was clean and quiet, and the Cityskape Bar is a nice place to unwind. A cab ride to anywhere you want to go is less than 10 dollars.

The Parking situation is deplorable. No good way to get to the parking lot without going outside and down steps. In the winter that is trecherous. Bring back valet or figure a way to better help your customers.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ddwhite98 Very Nice but a few surprising inconsistencies
The hotel starts on the 15th floor of the Chicago Sun Times building - There is an amazingly beautiful lobby up there complete with a city-view bar and very nice looking restaurant. The hotel has a HUGE pool (you could literally do laps in it), but no hot tub. It has a nice fitness center as well ~ all on the 16th floor. The conference center is in the 'basement' (14th floor). The lunch we were served was probably the best lunch I've ever had at a conference. Because of that, we were really looking forward to lunch on the second day, but imagine our surprise when we were served it, and it turned out to be almost exactly the same meal...delicious, but two days in a row? Puzzling. Our room was average for the most part, though the sink was cracked, the lining on the tub was pealing and the shower curtain didn't fit (room 1750). The view from the room of the Chicago River and the city was amazing.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ssideburns Great view... alright bar
This particular holiday inn was probably one of the better ones I have stayed in.
Check in was a breeze, even though my guest and I had arrived to the hotel around 8am.
The concierge service was amazing. He helped us find many locations to eat and visit during our stay. The suggestion of the Shedd Aquarium was the best.
The only issue we encountered was at the sky bar. While the view was really amazing, and the drinks were good, the bar tender that night was not what I expected. I ordered a drink that was listed in the drink book. After watching him look confused at the drink cards on how to mix it for a few minutes, I politely asked for a different order. He then assured me that he could make it. Instead of either drinks which I listed off, he then handed me a different drink than what I had ordered twice. Because of that experience, I don't think I can recommend the sky bar to friends and family.

Location was perfect. Nothing fancy. Good food that was brought up to our room from the lobby restaurant. Other than one rude individual at the front desk while checking in, the staff was very friendly and seemed genuinely concerned that everything was satisfactory. Would stay here again if the price was right.

Hotel being renovated 2 floors a year. Our room was on 23rd floor, so it was the first floor remodeled.
Cell phone service in the room and restaurant was terrible. Missed calls etc.
Room furniture was worn. Wallpaper peeling off. No refrigerator or microwave.
Restaurant was too expensive, such as $15.00 for an omelet.
Location is good, but next time we'll stay somewhere else.
