Loved everything about our experience at this Holiday Inn.... except for the Valet and parking situation. Not sure if it was simply a bad weekend (Lollapallooza was in town), but the valet service needs to be addressed ASAP. Only reason I would have second thoughts about staying at this hotel again. Otherwise, everything was wonderful! August 12, 2014

The hotel is centrally located so we could walk down to Millennium Park, Navy Pier and the theatre district. The IHG staff were very helpful. Nick helped us arrange for the Boat tour and then helped us postpone the tickets. Overall, we had a great time at the hotel and in Chicago. August 11, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than expected Used points and platinum membership free night for a cheap trip to chicago. This is the first time I've received the complementary upgrade as part of my status. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Only had a minor maintenance issue (batteries replaced on AC unit control) which was resolved very quickly, within minutes of calling. The hotel staff was very friendly and did accommodate a very early check in. The hotel lobby is on the 15th floor of the building so I can imagine that just about every room will have some sort of view even if its of the city. I'd definitely return next time I'm in the area. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by A place to sleep, but not much more In general, the cleanliness was about average, but the staff was very rude. There was more than 1 light burned out in the room we were staying in. The remote for the tv was ridiculous (basically a game controller that they had hooked to the tv and you were supposed to guess what buttons to push) and the internet was very slow. The pool was clean and warm, but there were no extra towels to use. On the other hand, it was quiet and not a bad place to sleep. August 8, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed with Service at Check-In I wanted to start by saying that the bell hop and valet were awesome. They were extremely helpful and very friendly. Housekeeping was very helpful and extremely efficient. My issues are with the lack of communication between staff. When I had called to make my reservation I was part of a wedding block because I needed two rooms together and I was told they could not guarantee two adjoining rooms I decided to reserve a suite. I was told that I could not get the discount pricing because it was not the standard room that was part of the wedding block. I was fine with that, however I learned that I could get a AAA discount since I was a member. I called back the day after my reservation was made to inquire about the AAA discount. I was told " to show my card at check-in and they will give you the discounted rate". My husband called to ask a question about the room two weeks prior to us checking in and figured he would double check about the AAA rate since my confirmation email did not reflect this. Again he was told to show card at check-in. Needless to say when we checked in I was told that had to be taken care of when I made the reservation. I do not understand why no one told me that to begin with and I would have cancelled my reservation and made a new one to reflect the discount. I was told during my stay that there was nothing that could be done after the fact. August 7, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mainly good but some drawbacks noisy air-conditioning - cannot switch off - need earplugs. Intermittant internet - sometimes no connection available - needed to be patient! Room not ready until 2.30pm, despite saying check-in is from 2pm. Pillows very very high - would advise to bring own! Plug in bath set to not plug in to enable a bath to be taken - which I needed for relaxation. Appreciate the need to conserve water by showering, but would have liked a bath option. Breakfast one day, was sat in a corner and other people who had seated after me were being served before me, so had to call over staff to get waited on. On plus side, the Concierge was extremely helpful and seemed to genuinely care and the hotel conferencing facilities were very good, along with very good meals. August 4, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice hotel, not so attentive staff Check in process was easy and we were able to check in early which was much appreciated. :) Room was clean, spacious, updated, and comfortable. Could walk to many attractions and restaurants. Loved being connected to the Merchandise Mart and being so close to the brown line. Never had any problems with noise, even though the hotel was pretty full. My only complaints pertain to the staff. I had sent an email in April-well ahead of my July 30 check-in-about some questions I had. Never got a response at all. That alone threw red flags and tempted me to cancel my reservation and book with another chain but I've stayed here before and was bringing my family back for their first visit to Chicago and wanted to be in a familiar area. After checking in, we needed to get a few things from CVS and I wasn't sure which street it was on, down from the hotel, or down from the east side of the Merchandise Mart. I went down to the concierge desk and stood and waited, and waited, and waited. Multiple employees walked past me standing there, and said nothing to acknowledge me, even after making eye contact. After about 15-20 minutes I asked one of the two front desk employees, who by the way had been there the entire time I was waiting and were not with other guests, if the concierge would be back soon, only to be told he was at lunch. Not a big deal, but it didn't sit well with me that they let me stand there and wait for someone they knew would not be back anytime soon. I used google for any other questions I had the rest of the weekend. That one instance really soured my take on the staff at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, and I doubt I'd stay there again. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Where do I start?! First of all, we checked into a un-made room. It felt like previous guests still in the room. The room was a mess. Went downstair to the front desk, the agent was cold and unwlecome eventhough he was the one who checked us into an un-made room. Gave us an "up-grade" room which was not any difference from the previous one and gave us an attitude for doing us a favor by giving us an "up-grade" room. The restuarant food was nothing special about it. Pizza was wet underneath the crust. Yuck. It was not worth the money at all. Period. August 2, 2014

When we checked out a very nice and polite young man by the name of Jay was shocked by our experience considering we had stayed in a newly renovated floor. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by room not cool Check in hour before checking they said they would call when room was ready no one called got back to hotel 10:30 pm got keys went to room. Keys did not work, no big deal, go down get new keys go in room get ready to sleep air condition does not work maintenance man comes up and found that batteries are no good. Changed batteries, air comes on ten minutes air stops all ready in bed next day get up go ball game told concierge room no please fix air get back late that night air never came on had set at lowest setting there's nothing worse than sleeping in an uncomfortable room. Check out next day. Other friends had rooms also said there air went no lower than 70 degrees. Good chance we will never stay here again . July 31, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant Stay Though a little off the beaten path the location on the river was great and an easy and scenic walk to Michigan Ave. Everyone was pleasant and the room clean and nicely appointed. Stayed there for a wedding and the price was attractive but seemed like normal rate may be a bit high given the location? I would definitely consider staying there again. July 31, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Small Room Size for Two Double Beds We reserved two rooms, a king and a double: There was significant room size difference with the king room in comparison to the 2 double beds. Same price-point and smaller space. :( Difficult to move around especially with a child in a wheelchair. No complementary grab-and-go breakfast :( simple bagels, fruit, and/or yogurt, etc. Other than looking at a crane outside the window...the view was very nice. July 29, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Week long business stay The rooms have been remodeled so that was nice. The bed was very good. Heat and air very good. There was no refrigerator or microwave. For a week long stay these are essential for a business traveler and I was required to use this facility per my employer so having no refrigerator was not to my liking. I used a stairwell in the building often. It got no cleaning attention and the remains of a smoker were in the stairwell all week. I know they can't stop the smoker but they can clean the stairwell. The exercise facility was overly warm and did have plenty of machines and exercise equipment. There were no towels despite my calling and requesting them. Its an OK place to stay for business. For vacation its better than OK a good value. For business travel not so much. July 28, 2014
