We needed a place to rest for the night and everything in Roanoke was full. The desk help booked us online and we arrived to a new, clean hotel and had a comfortable restful night!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Lackluster gym and breakfast
Sunday morning breakfast: expected decent continental breakfast in line with at least a Holiday Inn Express. Instead got offered choice of free breakfast or $9 hot buffet. Free breakfast included: limited choices, no juice or at least an empty tray where juice would have been, a bunch of kids cereals, 2 choices of yogurt (no greek which is better for you and found in all HIE's i have stayed in) basic toast and bagels and cheap packaged danishes and cupcakes. All the bananas were over-ripe. At least the apple was decent. If you have a full service restaurant, please set out some ceramic coffee cups too. We don't all like styrofoam throw away cups exclusively.
The $9 breakfast buffet would have been better I assume, but I didn't like that I was immediately upsold with an offer of a slightly better buffet breakfast with only a $10 room upgrade that gave me "2 buffets included". I never heard of this, was told of this, or saw any kind of sign for this "upgrade".
In short, if you are not going to offer a decent free breakfast, then DON'T offer it at all, or don't offer me a crummy looking free breakfast that is not even equal to what your discount division HIE offers, then say "to your right is something you can pay for that is only marginally better". Just seems cheap...
As for the gym: Still not equal to the average HIE. Only 3 cardio machines, nothing strength/weight related at all, not even a floor mat for any kind of yoga/situps whatever. You are situated next to a beautiful walking trail...I can walk outside but i can't use weights...so clear out a few cardio machines and put a small bench with dumb-bell rack instead.
The elevators are slow and do not operate with the usual hotel elevator logic. So if the car doesn't arrive as expected, think "it's you, elevator; not me.
The room rate was slightly more than the average "HIE just off the highway" prices but the facility didn't feel any better and wasn't worth the difference. I used up 10k points on this stay as weekend getaway and am not happy with the result. I could have just stayed at the HIE down the road. Downgrade this place to an HIE and all the problems go away.
As for IHG Rewards recognition: The front desk clerk said "i see you are a rewards member" and that's it. She recognized it. Didn't offer a bottle of water or snack or whatever like I am always offered at HIE.
