Was in process of modernising and refreshing some rooms during my visit so there was a mild smell of paint which was not overpowering. The room had obviously had a modern bathroom update and fresh paint so was quite pleasant. Internet was quite slow but available in all places that i visited. Overall a reasonable stay and an very comfortable nights sleep June 21, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good for an occasional night I was placed in a room which was at the end of a corridor overlooking a railway line which was noisy and a main road which was also noticeable throughout the night. It was apparent that this hotel had been squeezed into a space which was otherwise unuseable and that was reflected in the (lack of) sleep experience June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant stay and good service. As regular Holiday Inn guests my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay at the Colchester property. Staff, although a little short on the ground, were extremely pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately dining room service was slow - blamed on 'we have a number of staff off sick and there is a tour bus load in'. There is no apparent plan to call in reserve staff in such circumstances. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Colchester Holiday Inn - upgraded rooms Been staying here weekdays on business for 7months. The hotel has progressed through a bedroom refurbishment programme with minimal disruption; the results are very good. Some problems existed with housekeeping (non-replenishment of tea/coffee, shower gel etc).. these were always rectified promptly and courteously by Front Desk team, and in the background hotel management worked effectively to preclude further issues. Problem resolved short and long term. Food and beverage service both in room and in restaurant is great: varied, well presented and tailored to my specific needs as needed. Leisure facilities are good albeit every now and again the steam room needs the "air freshener" topping up (as happens in most gyms/hotel leisure facilities). Quickly rectified when requested. It is true over the winter of 2015/16 the hotel had some issues with housekeeping as mentioned above however Management has worked tirelessly to resolve these... the service has been back up to standard since early 2016, together with a few personal touches here and there to make you feel more welcome. The people make this a great hotel now: from General Management, Front Desk, Leisure, through to the Food June 6, 2016
